RARE HIGH CONDITION HUNGARIAN M52 MOSIN SNIPER

Lot # 90 (Sale Order: 90 of 571)

SERIAL NUMBER: BC3767. BARREL: 29". CALIBER: 7.62X54R. MANUFACTURED: 1953. Made at the FEG factory in Budapest Hungary. This is the Hungarian Version of the Russian M91/30 PU Sniper. Hungary began producing the Mosin Nagant (as the 48.M) post World War Two, and would be known as exceptional rifles, often better quality than Russians! They would also produce their own scopes! Designated the M52 in Hungarian service, these rifles were sent/sold to communist hot zones like North Korea and North Vietnam. This particular example lacks import marks, making it very possible that it came from Vietnam! Matching serials on the barrel shank, bolt, trigger guard and butt plate. “02” Hungarian factory codes throughout. Scope and mount are Hungarian made (and dated 1954), but the scope serial does not match the gun. Original blued finish and lacquered wood stock. The scope includes original leather lens caps. CONDITION: Metal is excellent overall, retaining 97% finish.. Wood is excellent overall as well, minus some finish bubbling on the wrist. Bore is lightly frosted, but retains strong rifling. Scope is excellent with a clear optic. This is an amazing gun, certain to be the centerpiece in any Mosin Nagant collection! C&R eligible.
SERIAL NUMBER: BC3767. BARREL: 29". CALIBER: 7.62X54R. MANUFACTURED: 1953. Made at the FEG factory in Budapest Hungary. This is the Hungarian Version of the Russian M91/3...more0 PU Sniper. ROLEX SENT TO WWII POW BENJAMIN ELMS

Lot # 99 (Sale Order: 99 of 571)

This is an incredible story of a young man of the "Greatest Generation" from Texas serving his country during World War II and a gold 1944 Rolex watch s/n 309040. 21 year old, 2nd Lt. Benjamin Marshall Elms, graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, and bombardier of a North American B-25 Mitchell named the "Bouncin Bitch" Was shot down during a bombing mission over Hamburg Germany on July 25, 1943. Elms along with five of his fellow crew members surviving the ordeal, were captured and sent to Stalag Luft 3 as POWs in Hammelburg, Germany. While serving in the prison camp, young Elms decided to order a Rolex Watch, s/n 309040. The Rolex was miraculously shipped to Lt. Elms at Stalag Luft 3, and German Camp Commander, Gen. Gunther von Goeckel allowed Elms to receive, and wear the watch. As evident of Rolex factory documents, sent along with the watch to Stalag Luft 3 in 1944, Benjamin Elms requested Rolex send the invoice for payment of $61.10 to his father W.C. Elms, in Gilmer Texas. If the story of the watch isn't fascinating enough, our further research discovers that Lt. Elms and the exploits of his fellow inmates later became the inspiration for the hit TV series, "Hogan Heros". Benjamin Marshall Elms, after the war returned to his home town in Texas, married his high school sweetheart Dorothy, remained in the U.S. Air Force reserve, retired a Lt. Colonel, and raised five children. Ben and Dorothy remained married 63 years until his death on October 16, 2010. In reading Elms's obituary, an interesting item was noted. Mr. Paul Goode is noted as an "Honorary" pallbearer. In researching Mr. Goode, it is discovered he was the American officer (Colonel Paul Goode) in charge of Stalag Luft 3 while Elms was a prisoner. We also learn Paul Goode was the role model for Bob Crane's character "Colonel Hogan" in the series Hogan's Heros. CONDITION: Rolex watch s/n 309040 remains in fine running condition along with original documentation from Rolex, sent to Lt. Elms, Stalag Luft 3 in Hammelburg Germany. This is a remarkable find, worthy of the finest collection of Rolex watches and /or World War II Militaria collection. -MKS-
