SERIAL 418809. BARREL 32 5/8". CALIBER .45-70 GOVT. MFG1888. .Left side of stock has a strong Sam Porter 1888 cartouche, an 1884 Buffington rifle rear sight, 1884 dated block and US Springfield stamped lock. CONDITION: The lock, hammer, trigger guard, bands, springs and even the butt plate retain majority of original blue finish. The breech block and tang have case colors. Stock is excellent with scattered light impressions. The edges are sharp. The action is strong and the bore is bright and shiny. A very fine, collector quality 1884 rifle. RMA ANTIQUE

BARREL 40" CALIBER .58 MFG 1862. Lock is stamped US Springfield with eagle and dated 1862. Top of barrel is also dated 1862. Features full length stock, 3 barrel bands and 3 leaf rear sight. CONDITION: Metal has brown patina and is mostly smooth with some scattered light pitting. Markings are good. Stock nice with sharp edges, and scattered handling marks. The stock has 2 strong cartouches on left flat and is stamped 42 by buttplate tang. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is clean with a good rifling. A solid example of this popular Civil War rifle. It features three barrel bands, iron mountings, metal parts finished in the white, tulip shaped ramrod head, and front sight doubles as a angular bayonet lug. Has two leaf rear sight. Lock is marked "U S COLT'S PT F A MFG CO HARTFORD CT" and dated 1863. There is an Federal Eagle on the bolster. CONDITION: The musket looks to be unissued and perhaps unfired. The metal is excellent with sharp markings. The action is crisp and the bore is bright and shiny. the stock has minor storage marks and has sharp edges and 2 deep cartouches on left flat. Standard "V/P/EAGLES HEAD/P" proofs on the chamber. Typical markings on the breech block and lock plate. Faint cartouche and circled "P" firing proof. Correct saddle ring bar and ring. Standard carbine sights with a "C" marked on the rear sight base and ladder. Blued finish and lightly sanded wood stock. Carbine type butt plate with sliding trapdoor. Includes cleaning tools in the butt. CONDITION: Metal has natural brown patina throughout, with some cleaned patina on the barrel. Wood has normal handling marks and scratches. Bore has some light pitting near the muzzle. Good overall rifling. Tight hammer. Breech block seems tight. Mechanically good. C&R JWA

Brass hardware with floral engraved round patchbox. Engraved pierced sideplate and finger loop trigger guard. Stock has right-handed cheek piece with full coin silver engraved Federal Eagle. Comes with replacement hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Overall good with metal turning a brown patina with light surface corrosion and slight burnout around drum. Full beautiful piano finished curly maple stock with brass hardware and 7 coin silver inlays. Brass hardware includes 4 piece punch dot engraved patchbox with Upper Susquehanna style center buttplate release with 5 piercings. Stock has brass shield under cheek, brass comb piece, brass saddle plate and brass barrel key covers. Silver inlays include typical Upper susquehanna wrist teardrops and cheek moon inlays. Full dark piano finished curly maple stock with brass hardware including an engraved 4 piece patchbox with 5 piercings, floral engraved lid with typical Kopp bell tower finial. Stock also has oval coin silver cheek inlay with Federal Eagle engraved on it and a silver thumbpiece. Comes with original hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Overall good with metal turning a smooth brown patina with some light pitting around drum. Brass exhibits a dark faded golden patina. Stock has traces of original piano finish with wear on handling areas. Patchbox hinge damaged from lid over opening with lid still functioning and closing tight. FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY SIGNED FREDERICK SELL

Lot # 353 (Sale Order: 338 of 571)      

SERIAL NUMBER: NSN. BARREL: 35 -3/8". CALIBER: .50 SMOOTHBORE. MANUFACTURED: CIRCA 1820. Rifle was made by Frederick Sell of Littlestown, Pennsylvania. Shortened in the period octagon to round barrel with rifle sights and brass inlaid plate with "Frederick Sell" in script. "TE/WARRANTED" marked two bolt flintlock, which is probably a reconversion. Lock is held by Sell engraved brass sideplate and controlled with a nicely done turned tail trigger. Curly maple fullstock with brass hardware including folky two piece patchbox with "Man-head" finial and nicely engraved toe plate. Stock also has nicely engraved barrel escutcheon plates with several possibly replacements. Stock has two coin silver inlays with a thumbpiece and oval cheekpiece with Federal Eagle. Comes with hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Overall fair with metal turning a grayish patina with some surface pitting and hammer marks near breech. Barrel and stock appear to have been shortened from muzzle in the period with gun being recoverted to flint. Stock has been cleaned and lightly sanded with lock mortise refaced to fit current lock. Stock has stable stress crack from trigger guard to patchbox finial. Several stable cracks exist along forestock from lock to rear sight. An excellent gun to restore. Good mechanics with dark bore showing pitting. Antique.

"TE/WARRANTED" marked two bolt flintlock, which is probably a reconversion. Lock is held by Sell engraved brass sideplate and controlled with a nicely done turned tail trigger. Curly maple fullstock with brass hardware including folky two piece patchbox with "Man-head" finial and nicely engraved toe plate. Stock also has nicely engraved barrel escutcheon plates with several possibly replacements. Stock has two coin silver inlays with a thumbpiece and oval cheekpiece with Federal Eagle. Comes with hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Overall fair with metal turning a grayish patina with some surface pitting and hammer marks near breech. Barrel and stock appear to have been shortened from muzzle in the period with gun being recoverted to flint. Stock has been cleaned and lightly sanded with lock mortise refaced to fit current lock. Stock has stable stress crack from trigger guard to patchbox finial. Several stable cracks exist along forestock from lock to rear sight. An excellent gun to restore. Good mechanics with dark bore showing pitting. Antique.

High condition curly maple stock with lots of original reddish tint varnish with brass hardware including 4 piece patchbox with Fleur-de-lis finial and saddleplate extending from triggerguard to tailpipe. Patchbox has area filled with black lacquer on each side of lid giving it a unique eye catching appearance. Cheek has coin silver pointed inlay surrounded by line engraved brass ring. Stock 10 coin silver inlays including previously mention cheek inlay, silver thumbpiece and barrel escutcheon plates. Comes with original striped hardwood ramrod with steel threaded tip. CONDITION: Overall good with handling marks and dings with tons of original varnish. Metal has turned to a smooth brown patina with light surface corrosion especially near drum and breech. Cheek has coin silver pointed inlay surrounded by line engraved brass ring. Includes wood ram rod CONDITION: Overall good with handling marks and dings. Metal has turned to a smooth brown patina with scattered pitting. Stock has original finish with impressions and wear, Has cracking at front of lock, and a repair at the toe of the butt. There is stock burn out by the nipple. Action works but is weak. The patch latch is not intact, and the screws are buggered. Comes with period child size pipe tomahawk. The tomahawk is decorated and retains the original haft. Quite a rare combination of Child's weapons from the first quarter of the 19th century. Antique.

Oil finished one piece stock with case colored pivoting breech and arsenal brown finished round barrel Stud pattern front sight with drift adjustable rear sight. Breech marked " US. S,NORTHMIDDLTN CONN 1848" Stock is crisply inspected "WAT on right side and "JH" on left side. Long saddle ring bar and ring on left side and namesake lever on right side. A long history of military service with Dragoon units and latter Cavalry units tend to leave these carbine in relatively sad condition. CONDITION, Exceptionally fine and in a museum state of pristine condition. The barrel and receiver retains most all of their arsenal brown finish. The tilting breech is as new. The stock has a few minute blemishes or impressions. Little to no actual use is identified. The bore is lightly oxidized from over 100 years of no use. The Lefaucheux Model 1854, the first revolver to use self-contained metallic cartridges rather than loose powder,ball, and percussion caps. The M1854 model is a single-action, pinfire revolver holding six rounds. It was a French military revolver chambered for the 12 mm pinfire cartridge, based on a design by Casimir Lefaucheux . The United States' Union Army and the Confederate States Army both ordered and received over 12,000 revolvers by January 1862. Spain was the first nation to come out with a quality copy, producing the 1858 "Officer" by Orbea Hermanos at Eibar and Trubia. This Spanish made version is an almost dead ringer for the French version with an octagon to round barrel, ejector rod, loading gate, single trigger, walnut stocks with metal pommel and lanyard ring. Patent dates on the left side of the frame. Two part, half round, half octagon barrel; with blade front sight and buckhorn u-notch rear. Case colored frame, with the balance of parts blued. Oiled forearm and pistol grip. CONDITION: Metal retains 75% of its finish, with honest wear. Hairline surface crack on the top of the left side grip. Otherwise, wood is very good. Bore is frosted, with good overall rifling. Mechanically fine, with a tight hammer. JWA ANTIQUE

Patent date...mores on the left side of the frame. Two part, half round, half octagon barrel; with blade front sight and buckhorn u-notch rear. Case colored frame, with the balance of parts blued. Oiled forearm and pistol grip. CONDITION: Metal retains 75% of its finish, with honest wear. Hairline surface crack on the top of the left side grip. Otherwise, wood is very good. Bore is frosted, with good overall rifling. Mechanically fine, with a tight hammer. JWA ANTIQUE
