(C) GERMAN PRE-WORLD WAR I SCHULER REFORM 4-BARREL PISTOL.

Lot # 2026 (Sale Order: 26 of 576)      

Designed by August Schuler and manufactured at his factory as well as licensed at and produced at other factories, the Schuler Reform pistol is extremely unique and innovative in design. The barrel also doubles as a magazine, featuring notches on the rear that which, when engaged by the hammer, lifts the barrel/magazine block up. When the subsequent round in fired, the gas is ported in the above barrel, ejecting the round, which is deflected off the hammer. The left side of the barrel is stamped "BREVETE/ D.R.P./ 177023" above an Imperial German eagle. Left side of barrels and frame bear horizontal crown over "N" nitro proofs. Matching numbers are present on the frame and bottom of the barrels. Frame is mounted with nonoriginal 2-piece checkered black plastic grips. CONDITION: Metal components show heavy wear to the blue finish, exhibiting a a mostly gray patina on the frame, barrel, grip straps, and trigger guard, with protected areas retain good amounts of original bluing. Bores are bright, exhibiting varying degrees of oxidation and retaining fair rifling. Grips are crudely fit, showing areas of heavy sanding, but are otherwise sturdy and serviceable. A very unique and interesting German Pre-World War I pistol design. (C) MASSIVE MONTENEGRIN PATTERN GASSER MODEL 1870 DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER

This revolver exhibits the mark of King Nikola I of Montenegro, a crown over "N.I", indicating its use in the Balkan nation in accordance with the king's proclamation that every adult male should keep a gasser pattern revolver for protection. Nickel finished with a 5-1/2" barrel mounted with crude homemade sights and an ejector rod. In addition to the mark of King Nikola, base of barrel is marked with "GASSER/PATTERN" "GUSS-STAHL" on left and a crown over "X" proof on right. Six shot nonfluted cylinder chambered for 11.3x36mmR cartridges. Bone grips with lanyard ring stud at base. CONDITION: Good retaining significant portions of original nickel with areas of loss throughout. Grips taking on a darkened patina with a small loss at the top of the left panel. Dark bore with strong rifling. Good mechanics. Matching serial numbers observed on frame, barrel, cylinder, and ejector rod. An excellent example of a Smith and Wesson commercial model 1917 double action revolver chambered in .45 ACP and manufactured in March of 1919. Blued square butt "N" frame with diamond checkered walnut grips, lanyard ring, and pinned round barrel with fixed front sight and rear notch cut into top of frame. Left side of barrel stamped "S.&W. D.A. 45". Smith and Wesson trademark stamped on right side of frame. Bottom of grip is stamped serial 170972. Combination of eagle head and "S" inspector marks throughout. All matching serials on butt, cylinder face, barrel flat, yoke, and back of extractor star. Right stock has penciled serial number on inside. CONDITION: Excellent plus overall condition with most of the original bluing remaining. Very light handling marks throughout. Very good bore and good mechanics. An excellent piece for any collection. Smith and Wesson 1st model hand ejector Triple Lock revolver chambered in .455 Mark II with serial number "12589". The "Triple Lock" derives its name from the unique locking mechanism on the yoke. This particular revolver has no British proof marks. Blued 5 screw square butt "N" frame revolver with round 6 - 1/2" barrel and service sights. Left side of barrel stamped "SMITH & WESSON .455." and manufacturer patent stamps on top of barrel. Smith and Wesson trade mark stamped on right side of frame. Color case hardened knurled hammer and smooth faced trigger. All matching serials numbers. Knurled cylinder thumb release and ejector rod tip. Checkered walnut stocks with Smith and Wesson medallion on either side. Lanyard loop fitted to bottom of grip frame. CONDITION: Very good overall condition with almost all original bluing remaining. Features include 6" barrel, blade front sight, "U" notch rear sight, and 2-piece checkered vulcanite grips. Rear of cylinder has been shaved down to accept .45 ACP with moon clips (It should be noted that these revolvers were not manufactured to accept standard .45 ACP pressures). Army Special double action revolver manufactured by Colt in 1911. Left side of barrel is stamped "COLT" "ARMY/ SPECIAL" "38" with Colt's 2-line address across the top. Left side of frame bears the Rampant Colt within an intertwined C motif. Major metal components retain a high polish blue finish, with the trigger, frame screws, and upper strap of the hammer being nitre blued. Features include a 6" barrel, half moon front sight, notched rear sight, and 2-piece Colt checkered hard rubber grips. Matching numbers are found on the frame, cylinder crane, and handwritten on the interior of either grip. This example is accompanied by a Charles W. Clawson Collection certificate of authenticity, signed by his wife Betty A. Clawson, which lists this revolver by serial number as being purchased from the Clawson collection. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their original high polish factory blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and some scattered superficial marks from handling and storage. Grip straps show thinning to patina and some wear to gray. Nitre blued components show wear all around, with the frame screws retaining various degrees of their original factory finish. An excellent example of a Smith and Wesson Model 1917 double action revolver chambered in .45 ACP and manufactured in June of 1918. Blued square butt "N" frame with plain walnut grips, lanyard ring and pinned round barrel with fixed front sight and rear notch cut into top of frame. Left side of barrel stamped "S.&W. D.A. 45" and under the barrel stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". Bottom of grip is stamped "U.S. ARMY MODEL 1917 NO 74621. US ordnance flaming bomb stamped on top left side of frame. 4 eagle head assistant inspector marks throughout with numbers S9, S4, S2, and S1. All matching serials on butt, cylinder face, barrel flat, yoke, and back of extractor star. CONDITION: Excellent overall condition with most of the original bluing remaining. Minimal handling marks throughout. Left stock show discoloration towards edges. Good bore and good mechanics. An excellent piece for any collection. The left side of the barrel is stamped "COLT" followed by "ARMY/SPECIAL" and "38", with the top of the barrel bearing Colt's 2-line address. Left side of frame bears the Rampant Colt logo and "VP" proof. Features include a blue finish, 6" barrel, half moon front sight, frame notched rear sight, as well as 2-piece Colt fleur-de-lis hard rubber grips. Matching numbers are present on the frame and cylinder crane, with the grips matching via a hand scribed etching on the interior of the grip panels. CONDITION: Excellent overall with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original factory blue finish, showing few minor marks from handling and storage as well as a few minute spots of oxidation on the corners of the cylinder flutes, a small spot of oxidation on the rear corner of the butt, as well as a small spot of oxidation on the left side of the hammer. Blued square butt "N" frame with factory commercial walnut grips, lanyard ring, and pinned round barrel with fixed front sight and rear notch cut into top of frame. Left side of barrel stamped "S.&W. D.A. 45" and under the barrel stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". Bottom of grip is stamped "U.S. ARMY MODEL 1917 NO 70885". US ordnance flaming bomb stamped on top left side of frame. 4 eagle head assistant inspector marks throughout with numbers "S4, S3, and S2". Round steel barrel with adjustable blade front sight and u-notch rear. Metal components were refinished at some point. Checkered trigger and spurred hammer.
