WWI US NAVY RAILWAY GUN UNIFORM

Lot # 1149 (Sale Order: 149 of 523)

During the final stages of World War I the US Navy operated five railway guns in France. These railway guns were operated by US Navy personnel who were issued US Marine Corps uniforms. Since there were only five railway guns being operated at the end of the war, there was not a lot of Navy personnel to operate them. The end of the left sleeve exhibits a service chevron. CONDITION: The tunic retains all of its original metal USMC buttons. The tunic exhibits slight mothing but the moth nips do not penetrate the liner. The liner has slight staining. Overall very good. JD

US WWI DOUBLE PATCHED 332ND INFATRY REGIMENT/83RD INFANTRY DIVISION UNIFORM

Lot # 1150 (Sale Order: 150 of 523)

Stunning WWI uniform that was worn by a member of Company H. 332nd Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division. The jacket was manufactured by Saffer Bros. in 1918 and the pants were manufactured by The Schulman Co. in 1918. The tunic boasts a beautiful Italian made 332nd IR patch as well as an 83rd Infantry Division patch on the wearer's left shoulder. Both patches are hand sewn to the tunic. Below the unit insignia, is perhaps the most common piece of WWI insignia, the red discharge chevron which is machine sewn to the jacket. The last piece of the insignia on this sleeve are two bullion service chevrons. The collar insignia coincides with the shoulder patches, with a US collar disc and a 332nd IR collar disc with an H underneath the crossed rifles which denotes H company of the 332nd IR. Below the collar, the left breast is adorned with 332nd Infantry Regiment reunion medals. This soldier must have been very active with the unit after it was disbanded in 1919, as the medals date from 1924-1926 and 1939. One of the medals is named to the soldier on the ribbon, but it is smudged and somewhat illegible. The name appears to be "T. McBRIDE". CONDITION: The tunic retains all of its original US Army metal buttons. The trousers are missing the top button. The tunic liner exhibits one scuff but is otherwise clean. The tunic is free of mothing, while the pants display a few scattered moth nips. This is a fantastic uniform from a famous unit in excellent condition. JD
