(A) EXCEPTIONAL CASED COLT 1862 POCKET POLICE PERCUSSION REVOLVER.

Lot # 1258 (Sale Order: 258 of 637)

Blue and color case hardened with 4 - 1/2" round barrel, brass pin front sight and one line New-York U.S. America address. It has "COLTS PATENT" on left side of frame and caliber marking on left shoulder of trigger guard. Cylinder is half fluted and rebated with 5 chambers and 3 safety pins serviceable. The silver plated trigger guard and back strap contain a nicely figured, varnished, one piece walnut grip that has the serial number in back strap channel. Accompanied by an original blue velvet lined mahogany Colt casing compartmentalized in the bottom for the revolver, a double sided eagle and stars "E PLURIBUS UNUM" flask, a blued steel 2-cavity bullet and ball "COLT'S PATENT" mold with sprue cutter that is marked on right side "36P",and a lacquered tin of Eley's caps. Given that this revolver was produced during the early years of the Civil War and survived in exceptional condition is just short of miraculous. Then to further survive the great Manifest Destiny Westward expansion still in unused condition, is even more astounding. Most of this model revolver saw hard service throughout the Civil War and on the American frontier and are rarely ever found with much original finish. They remained in service well into the 1870s and even 1880s until supplanted by the "new" cartridge revolvers. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus, all matching including wedge and grip, probably rarely fired. Barrel retains about 65-70% dark glossy orig blue with the loss areas flaked, not worn, to a medium patina. The rammer and handle retain some brilliant, vivid case colors as does the frame and hammer. The cylinder retains generous amounts of dark glossy original blue with flaked spots. Three of the safety pins are serviceable. The trigger guard and backstrap retain generous amounts of their original silver plating. Backstrap silver is thinned. Grip is very fine with sharp edges and small flaws and retains virtually all of its bright original varnish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. Case has most all of its original factory varnish. Interior is slightly faded. Flask is very good, retaining some of its original factory finish. Mold is equally fine with some minor flaking and minor dents. Cap tin shows soil and staining to the label. (A) RARE COLT FLUCK DRAGOON PERCUSSION REVOLVER.

Lot # 1262 (Sale Order: 262 of 637)

This rare and unique model Colt revolver has been referred to by several titles and subject of much conjecture of origin and production numbers. Sometimes misidentified as a First Model Dragoon. Most commonly referred to by collectors as the "Fluck" dragoon after the early Colt collector John J. Fluck discovered through his research that it was indeed a distinct model. Sometimes, referred to as a "Walker Replacement Dragoon" due to the theory the U.S. Government specifically ordered these to replace Walker revolvers and they were made up of left over Colt Walker parts. Opined estimates of production numbers have ranged from only 300 to several thousand built. In any event they are indeed a distinct and rare model that have features of both the Colt Walker and the First Model Colt Dragoon. This example, serial number 2506 manufactured in 1848 has the distinctive long Walker type backstrap and grip angle. Octagon to round 7-1/2 inch barrel marked "ADDRESS SAM'L COLT NEW-YORK CITY", reading from the breech forward. The barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder and cylinder arbor all have matching serial number 2506, with the arbor marked 506. The wedge is marked 460, Cylinder 2641, and the loading lever 254. All numbers are the small Walker size font. Center of frame left side is marked 3-lines "COLT'S/PATENT/U.S." Sub-inspection letter "P" visible on left side barrel lug and on the cylinder near the serial number. Cylinder has W.L. Ormsby's roll die Texas Ranger and Indian fight scene and is also marked "MODEL U.S.M.R." and "COLT'S PATENT". Blue with case hardened frame, loading lever, and hammer. Brass trigger guard and backstrap. One-piece oil finished walnut grips. Accompanying the revolver is a period correct military style flap holster, with letters "T.P.B." carved on the inside of flap, belt with brass "U.S." Indian Wars period buckle, an "R.White" inspected percussion cap pouch with a period French made brass compass, and cartridge pouch. CONDITION: Revolver is very good overall with only small traces of original finishes present in protected areas. Brass trigger guard and backstrap a medium color mustard patina showing moderate wear. Walnut grips showing heavy wear at the butt with the toe area rounded back on both sides, balance of grips show moderate wear with scattered dents and scratches, fit well to the backstrap. No visible cartouches or sub-inspector stamps on grips. Barrel lug has multiple dents around wedge on right side. Bore is decent showing good straight rifling. Cylinder has faint, yet legible roll die scene and markings, with distinctive pressure ridge on entire circumference. Good original screws, a few with molested slots. Trigger is formed (or possibly bent) in a non-typical radius. Action operates well, tight and crisp. Leather items are sound and pliable with moderate grazing. Overall a very respectable and honest example of a scarce early model Colt revolver and holster rig. -MKS-Accessories: HolsterBarrel Length: 7 - 1/2"Caliber/Bore: .44 RifledFFL Status: AntiqueManufacturer: ColtModel: Fluck DragoonSerial Number: 2506

(A) MAGNIFICENT, CASED GUSTAVE YOUNG ENGRAVED PRESENTATION COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY REVOLVER

Lot # 1263 (Sale Order: 263 of 637)

Nothing short of spectacular, this ’51 Navy is of the finest of Colt Revolvers that we have had the opportunity to examine. It has the standard 7 - 1/2 octagonal barrel, brass pin front sight and one line New York City address with dashes. Left side of frame has “COLTS PATENT” engraved in Mr. Young’s typical pillow shaped panel. It has an extremely rare iron trigger guard, backstrap with large guard and deluxe burl one piece walnut grip. Only a handful of engraved Navy examples with iron backstrap and triggerguard are known to exist, and none in such near-new condition. The frame, hammer, barrel lug, rammer pivot, backstrap, buttstrap, and trigger guard are wonderfully engraved by Gustav Young with his inimitable style of foliate arabesque patterns and a very fine punch dot background. On the left side of the barrel lug Mr. Young has incorporated a very well detailed dog’s head. Several of his fine loops terminate in his trademark flower blossoms, especially on the right side. Both left and right sides of the barrel lug have his flower blossoms sprouting foliate arabesque patterns with spider web panels on the right side of the barrel lug and both sides of the backstrap ears. Top of back strap has Mr. Young’s trademark fan with arabesque patterns at the top and heel, on the buttstrap and trigger bow. Screwheads are all deluxe engraved. Accompanied by an exceptional rosewood presentation case in outstanding condition with a scalloped corner brass plaque in the lid engraved in period script “Wm H. Leach / Boston”. No research was accomplished on this wonderful revolver prior to listing. Case is lined in burgundy velvet and compartmented in the bottom for the revolver, a spectacular single sided angle spout “COLTS PATENT” Navy flask, a “COLTS PATENT” iron two cavity bullet mold with sprue cutter and marked on right side “36B”. There is also an L-shaped nipple wrench, a packet of combustible cartridges and an original, paper covered sealed tin of Eley caps. Additionally accompanying, as Mr. Colt was want to do with his special presentations, is a spare hammer spring and six spare nipples which are in the right rear corner compartment along with lead bullets & balls and a working key. CONDITION: Exceptional and in nearly unfired condition showing very little use. The barrel and cylinder retain most all of their original blue in the bore and chambers. Serial numbers are all matching. Barrel retains about 95%+ bright, dense, glossy blue that shows only the slightest thinning and its edges show little to no wear from actual use. Rammer handle & pivot retain smoky case color, stronger on the pivot. Frame retains about all of its dark early case colors with bright colors on the hammer. Cylinder retains about 70-75% flaked original blue that is missing from age and not wear, with five of the safety pins prominent and the sixth partially battered. Diameter of the cylinder retains all of its original Ormsby Naval battle scene. Trigger guard retains most of its blackening and flaking original silver plating and the backstrap and buttstrap with generous traces of silver plating with the exposed areas a gray-brown patina. Grip is excellent with sharp edges and showing little wear with a few slight scratches and nicks in the varnish and retains most of its original bright factory varnish. Mechanics are crisp and as new, bright shiny bore with slightest scattered corrosion near breech if any. Case is equally excellent with three or four fine grain cracks in the lid and one in the bottom with usual light handling & storage scratches and retains about all of its original varnish. Interior is very slightly faded with a few spots of stain and wear from the cylinder edge of the grip and front sight with the lightest of soil in the compartments. Flask is exceptional, retaining virtually all its strong original laquer finish with one very small dent on back side. Mold is equally new with a few light scratches. Cartridge pack & cap tin are also new and unopened. Nipple wrench has crisp blue. Altogether one of the finest Colt Navy Revolvers ever to be offered at public sale, an exceptional complete set that comes along only once in a lifetime. Lot # 1265 (Sale Order: 265 of 637)

Serial number 4740, manufactured in 1861. Matching serial numbers on all major components including the wedge. 8" barrel with German silver front sight, marked in one line "-ADDRESS COL. SAM'L COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-". .44 caliber rebated cylinder marked "COLT'S PATENT NO. 4740", number "40" is double struck. Blue with case hardened frame, hammer, and loading lever. One piece varnished walnut grips. Frame cut for shoulder stock. Silver plated trigger guard. Iron backstrap with hand engraved inscription "HON E.O. PERRIN WITH COMPLIMENTS OF COL COLT" According to a letter written by R.L. Wilson dated May 18, 1971, Mr. Wilson believed the inscription to be the work of Gustave Young. All screws are original. Typically the frame screws used to mount a shoulder stock have a long stud like head, the screws on this revolver have rounded heads. Considering this revolver was factory cased without a shoulder stock these screws are correct and original to the revolver. Housed in a walnut partition fitted case with burgundy interior complete with correct powder flask marked "Colts Patent", blue two cavity bullet mold marked "Colt's Patent" on the sprue cutter and letter "K" on right side, blue combination nipple wrench/screwdriver, original Hazard Powder Co. packet of cartridges, Eley Bros. percussion cap tin, and a spare hammer spring. A number of known Colt Model 1860 Armies were presented to various high ranking Union Army officers and officials with similar inscriptions "With COMPLIMENTS OF COL.COLT" during mid-late June 1861. According to the book "The Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver" by Charles W. Pate, book one of the Colt shipping ledgers from that time, listed on page 146 a box containing 35 Model 1860 Army revolvers and six of those guns are known presentations from Col. Colt, including serial numbers 1856 & 4257 to Col. James Cameron, serial numbers 1929 & 2119 to Major General N.P. Banks, serial number 4782 to Honorable F.P. Stanton, and serial number 4740 to Honorable E. Perrin. Photographed on page 368 of Pate's book is the backstrap showing the inscription to F.P. Stanton's gun serial number 4782, the inscription is nearly identical to the inscription on Perrin's gun serial number 4740. Edwin Oscar (E.O.) Perrin was born Dec. 3, 1822 in Springfield, Ohio and educated at Springfield Academy. He later studied law and was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1842. He moved from Ohio to Memphis, TN practicing law there and was the Navy agent under Pres. Taylor. In 1857 he traveled to Kansas and took an active part in the canvas against the Lecompton Constitution. He was an assistant to Presidential Candidate Stephen A. Douglass from the State of Maine and apparently very active in the Democratic Party. In 1861, at the outbreak of the Civil War, Mr. Perrin was dispatched by Secretary of War Cameron to New Mexico where he served under the command of Colonel Kit Carson, arranging supplies for the Union Army that was resisting the incursion of the Confederacy led by General Henry Sibley. Colonel Carson wrote favorably of Mr. Perrin’s brave & honorable service. He was subsequently nominated by President Johnson to become the Chief Justice of the Utah Territory Supreme Court but the Senate rejected his nomination, apparently on political grounds, not for lack of qualifications. He was also rejected by the Senate when he was nominated to be the Internal Revenue Assessor of the First District of New York. Mr. Perrin was the Secretary of five Democratic National Conventions and in 1868 was elected Clerk of the Court of Appeals in New York and was reappointed to the same position by the court in 1870. At this time there is little known of Mr. Perrin’s activities after 1870 until his death in Dec. 1888. Accompanying revolver and case is a binder of much documentation supporting authenticity and information regarding E.O. Perrin. CONDITION: The revolver is excellent retaining approximately 75% original blue mixing with blue/brown patina. Frame shows 30-40% original bright case colors blending with patina. Loading lever shows strong original case colors mainly in protected areas turning to patina. Hammer has 40%+ bright case color with light pitting on the face. Cylinder is mostly brown patina with traces of original blue, showing a strong roll die cylinder scene and patent markings. All original unmolested screws. Most of the original silver on the brass trigger guard. Backstrap mostly bare metal with some original silver on top, beginning to flake. Grips are fine overall with most of the original varnish showing moderate wear. Case is very good with typical mars and dents with one sizable crack along the back of the lid. Hinges are tight. Interior is sound, showing moderate wear with some fading. Powder flask is very good with a dark patina, a few dents on the back, with one open seam. Bullet mold has been over cleaned in a couple areas showing approximately 45% original blue overall. Overall a very desirable Civil War period

(A) CUT-DOWN MODEL COLT 1855 REVOLVING SHOTGUN.

Lot # 1268 (Sale Order: 268 of 637)

Very interesting, possible Civil War period modified Colt Model 1855 revolving shotgun. Pictured on the cover of April 1975 edition of 'The Gun Report'. Most interesting article with much conjecture on the origin and construction of this massive, now handgun. In this writer's opinion the beast was constructed from a 10 gauge (.75 caliber) Colt Model 1855 revolving shotgun. Possibly intended for battle use in the Civil War? In any event a very ingenious and effective weapon. Overall length is 20-5/8" and weighs approximately 6 lbs 8 oz. The grip is walnut, well constructed and most likely from the original Colt stock. The original tang was heated and bent forming the grip backstrap. Also, the trigger guard was formed to the grip using the original with a brass extension added to makeup required additional length. Numerous brass inlays on both sides of grip. Left side has large initials "P.P.", a brass oval with "GEO. K" inscribed and a brass cross with "Frank. P.P" inscribed. Bottom of grip has brass letters spelling "FOLEY." (letters "L" and "Y" missing), right grip has brass Maltese style cross with letters "J.W.B." inscribed. Evidence of a missing inlaid cross and animal like figure on right grip. A most interesting Civil War era relic. CONDITION: Good with overall pitting with dark brown patina. All percussion nipples intact. Action works well, cylinder rotates and locks when cock, hammer holds position. Patent date on cylinder flute and "Col. Colt Hartford CT. U.S.A." legible on topstrap.
