(C) WELL ENGINEERED AND VERY INTERESTING HIGH QUALITY GRADE 5 MANUFRANCE "IDEAL" UNDER LEVER RIFLE/

Lot # 1488 (Sale Order: 488 of 637)

(ca 1935) 27 - 1/2" chopper lump barrels have very deeply swamped game rib. Rear portion of rib is fitted with square shouldered dovetail extension which engages interesting rising bite third fastener. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with French nitro double proofs, along with steel type, caliber, etc. Grade "5S" is stamped on bottom of rear lump. The "S" refers to rifling in right barrel which is intended to disperse shot for close in work. It also appears that this rifling would work well with slug or ball. Rounded coin finished action has finger lever in trigger guard bow which both cocks the action and operates the bolts. Aside from the rising bite third fastener this action also features side clips, loaded chamber indicating pins, and an ambidextrous sliding safety which blocks triggers on trigger plate. Action is engraved with near full coverage large open scroll, this scroll is in semi relief on fences. Bottom of action is stamped "IDEAL". Nicely streaked European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 3/4" over ribbed hard rubber buttplate with "MF" logo, over 9/16" lengthening piece. Skip line point pattern checkering is around grip, and a spring loaded leather sling runs through slot in toe line. A loop to attach this sling is soldered to barrel. Matching forend with inset hard rubber tip has interesting toggling release toward rear which is very strong and secure. CONDITION: Very good, as partially refinished. Barrels retain over 80% of what appears to be original blue, but may be an old re-blue. Action retains most of its original French grey. Stocks have old oil refinish with some subsequent marks. Checkering appears to be cleaned. There is a transverse pin through side panels of stock, associated with a 1 - 1/2" repaired crack behind top tang. Smooth bore is very fine to excellent, rifled bore has some scattered light pitting, and has a fairly large sharp dent 10" from breech end which should definitely be repaired before firing. Action is very tight. A really neat gun. MGM82. (C) RARE HOFFMAN ARMS SIDELOCK EJECTOR SINGLE BARREL TRAP SHOTGUN WITH SUPERB ENGRAVING AND GOLD INL

Lot # 1492 (Sale Order: 492 of 637)

(ca 1915 by W. & C. Scott, Finished by Hoffman around 1930) 34" demi-bloc barrel is engraved "HOFFMAN ARMS CO. ARDMORE OKLA" on raised matted ventilated rib with cloverleaf extension. Barrel flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for 2 - 3/4" chamber. Action with right sidelock features pivoting third fastener and bushed striker. Action is very nicely filed and engraved with near full coverage exceptionally well cut large open shaded acanthus scroll within line and acanthus borders surrounding small vignettes of gold inlaid game birds; a pair of pheasant on left side of action, a flying duck on bottom. Sidelock has full relief gold perched hen pheasant toward front and flying cock pheasant at rear. "HOFFMAN ARMS CO ARDMORE OKLA" follows beads on left side of action. Blued trigger guard with more fine scroll is gold inlaid "J A W" on bow. It is known that Rudolph Kornbrath did essentially all the engraving for Hoffman, and this interesting gun shows some of its work at its best. Newly made stocks of nicely streaked and lightly figured European walnut feature fancy fleur-de-lis checkering reminiscent of "B" carving on Winchester Model 21's. Buttstock measures 14 - 1/2" over white line trap pad, and has original scroll engraved grip cap and a gold oval on toe line engraved "KRW". Lot # 1500 (Sale Order: 500 of 637)

Cal. 11.43 mm (.45 ACP). Extremely rare pistol in the United States with only about 1,000 ever made, built somewhat on the order of the Colt 1911A1, by Fabrica de Armas Mexico, Mexico City, Mexico for commercial sale. This is a basic copy of the 1911-A1 in most respects except for the stepped side slide which is thick & round over about the front half. It has fixed sights with a narrow checkered raised rib on top of slide with slanted serrations grasping groove on rear end. Slide lock/safety is simply a long bar that replaces the two pieces of 1911-style pistol. It has a short rounded spur hammer and a long spur tang safety with raised, serrated mainspring housing and a serrated front strap. Magazine release is in usual 1911 position with concentric rings but is J-shaped on right side. Left side of slide is marked “Systema OBREGON / Calibre 11.43”. Right side of frame is marked above grip “FABRICA NACIONAL DE ARMAS MEXICO PAT. No 35053?", and the serial number. Fitted with full coverage coarse checkered walnut grips & accompanied by an original Colt type unmarked two tone magazine. Few of these pistols have found their way into the United States and of those most have seen hard service & retain little original finish. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Overall retains 80% strong blue with muzzle & sharp edge wear with scattered handling marks and some thinning. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. Grips are sound with light diamond point wear.
