(C) PROTOTYPE SERIAL NUMBER ONE MARBLES GAMES GETTER COMBINATION GUN IN 32-20 AND 28 GAUGE.

Lot # 1601 (Sale Order: 601 of 637)

Maintained and handed down through the Marble's family, this prototype "GAMEGETTER" combination gun, serial number 1, was patented in 1910 by W.L. Marble of Gladstone, Michigan. This unique design evolved into the later production models that became synonymous amongst firearms enthusiast and collectors alike. This unique example operates by pivoting the barrel cluster to left as opposed to a breakdown as later models where. The 20" superimposed barrels are chambered for the .32-20 Winchester cartridge over a 28 gauge shotgun barrel. Front sight is a drift adjustable bead front sight and a folding express rear sight. A single trigger operates the dual pull-cocking striker mechanism. The rust blue action is mounted into what appears to be a varnished American walnut stock with hard rubber buttplate from a Stevens small frame Champion shotgun. A manual cartridge extractor is mounted to the right side of the barrel assembly as is the manual disconnect for opening the action. The serial number one is found on the lower tang to rear of trigger as well as on forward stanchion of the receiver at pivot point and on the breech in between the chambers. Gun is accompanied by extensive provenance by previous owner showing the chain of custody of the gun as well as documentation from the National Rifle Association awarding this gun with a Silver Medal (number 273) for one of the "10 best Weapons" from the 1987 Reno, Nevada annual meeting and firearms exhibit. Gun is also cased for display in a velvet lined fitted walnut trunk pattern case with brass furniture and carry handle. CONDITION: Very fine with over 97% of the rust blue finish remaining with losses at edges and areas of lever operation. The bores are excellent, the action operates properly and smoothly. Walnut stock is very good with varnish loss at wrist from handling. Case is very good with several minor exterior scratches. NRA "COIN# 273" is excellent with presentation box, certificate and award plaque. Rarely can a 100 year old firearm be traced from its patent stage through development, manufacture, and to its current caretaker. Unique in every respect. ATTRACTIVE MODEL 1895 WATERTOWN ARSENAL MANUFACTURED 3.6 INCH FIELD MORTAR IN ORIGINAL STEEL MOUNT O

Lot # 1606 (Sale Order: 606 of 637)

Attractive green painted Watertown arsenal 3.6 inch breech loading mortar as manufactured in 1898 with original brass data plate on steel mount. Serial number "41" matches on tube and mount with "JWR" inspectors initials. One original banded projectile is included with this lot. This was the first modern breechloading mortar developed for the U.S. Army. Four were sent to Cuba via Tampa, Florida for the Spanish American War, and at least two and possibly four were shipped to and deployed in the Philippines during the insurrection there. They were deemed obsolete in 1919 and many were scrapped or otherwise became decorative or memorial pieces. Several, including this one, made it into the hands of private collectors. CONDITION: Green repainted finish on metal parts with brass data plate turning a pleasing dull patina with fuse primer brass thumbpiece presenting a more polished appearance. Steel breechblock in the white and very clean. A great piece for the turn of the century heavy ordnance collector which rolls well on its display stand. JWK CORRECTION: The bore of this mortar has been professionally relined by Matt Switlik, and this can be discerned in the photos. This mortar is in absolutely fabulous condition including the bore, fit for museum display or for recreational shooting activities.

(A) A RARE ISLAMIC 7 POUND RIFLED CANNON BEARING THE ROYAL ARMS OF AFGHANISTAN AND FARSI INSCRIPTION

Lot # 1608 (Sale Order: 608 of 637)

This well forged steel rifled cannon is similar to the British muzzle loading mounting cannon. This cannon was cast, likely in Kabul, and bears the deeply engraved Afghani National Arms. The tube is 40" including cascabel. The 3" bore has three three small grooves and three large lands. Middle Eastern cannons from this period are rarely encountered in America or Europe as most were melted and reused. Cannon comes on a wooden naval type carriage with mounts. Quite possibly the only cannon of its type in the United States and thus a rare opportunity to purchase such a historic cannon, considering the Afghan War is the longest war in American history. CONDITION: Fine for a cannon of this period. The engraved Royal Arms are extremely crisp. Original machining marks are still visible, with the number "8" stamped on the muzzle face, cascabel, and midsection. Bore has good rifling, though somewhat corroded. Original brass vent will accept a friction primer. PROVENANCE: Springfield Arsenal LLC Artillery Collection, John Morris. MZThis is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made.

FRAMED WINCHESTER DOUBLE W CARTRIDGE STONE LITHOGRAPH PRIN.

Lot # 1616 (Sale Order: 616 of 637)

The famous image entitled Success was painted by A.B. Frost and is first seen on the Winchester 1895 calendar and used again on the actual cartridge board circa 1897-1898 as well as on this print. This is the stone litho version of the true cartridge board. These were given to dealers across the country to advertise their product but due to the large size and fragile nature of these items, seldom did they survive in any condition having been stored for decades in hot attics and moldy basements. CONDITION: Exceptional. It was completely black lighted and there were no signs of any inpainting or paper repair, just the normal minor storage marks one would expect to find on a hundred plus old piece that was never protected under glass. The frame has been expertly restored. The prices on the cartridge boards have soared making these period litho prints an absolute bargain when they show up. It measures 40" tall and 57" long. It is ready for that gun room and needs only to be hung. A fantastic piece with bright original color and images. DB

WINCHESTER STORE MODEL 1903 DISPLAY BOARD.

Lot # 1622 (Sale Order: 622 of 637)

Following the end of World War I, they made the decision to manufacture tools as well as firearms and ammunition. Partly this was done to betterutilize their plants and equipment which had been beefed up to meet the demands for steel-related war goods. However they did not have muchsuccess in distributing these tools and hardware goods on a national scale. Distributed under "The Winchester Store", they launched a nationwidemarketing campaign. Around 1919, the company expanded into other areas of manufacture and product distribution, even going so far as to come close to having "retail" stores, putting the famous Winchester brand on nearly everything from tools, sporting goods to housewares and hardware items, with its slogan being ...."As Good As The Gun". By 1931, Winchester was in bankruptcy and no longer producing tools. Subsequent mergers and partnerships changed the name and look of the Winchester logo. It was Winchester-Western for a while, starting in 1931. This was the end of the Winchester Store. This panel is double sided and one panel of the five total. Each of the panels measures 40" tall and 19" wide and made of light, very fragile cardboard. The first five panel display was sent to the Winchester store in March of 1920. Each of the five panels would sit in a wooden five panel frame that was hinged and could be used to divide departments. The last five panels were used in 1928. This panel features the Winchester Model 1903 semi-automatic rifle. It is dated for display August 31st-September 6th. CONDITION: It is housed in a modern frame and there is a visible small chip at base and some storage scuffs but is extremely clean and bright and would really shine in any gun room, especially if you collect Winchester .22 rifles. DB
