Lot # 1077 (Sale Order: 77 of 385)

This Browning aircraft light machine gun was assembled using some Colt parts by Marana Arms. It is marked on top of feed cover “MARANA ARMS MFG/MDL. H/SERIAL NO. 1/MARANA, ARIZONA/.30 CALIBER MG”. Left hand side plate is marked “MARANA ARMS MFG./MODEL H/SERIAL NO. 1”. Right side of trunnion marked “MG 40/MADE BY/(OBSCURED BY MOUNTING BRACKET)/RD, CONN.” Bottom plate marked with registered SN 124144 and “M.A.M/NO. 1”. This gun has areas of welding where a rudimentary but functional carrying handle has been attached to the top cover. Lyman adjustable rear sight has been welded to the top of receiver and a hand grip has been welded to the buffer. Trigger is a curved hand fitted piece of aluminum. Cocking handle is also homemade. Action is stiff when cocked by hand but appears fully functional. Screw in muzzle assembly is not present. PROVENANCE: The Class III weapons formerly on loan to Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. (N) VERY DESIRABLE ORIGINAL WORLD WAR II ITHACA MANUFACTURED M3A1 “GREASE GUN” MACHINE GUN (PRE-86 D

Lot # 1078 (Sale Order: 78 of 385)

Seldom encountered Ithaca manufactured U.S. M3A1 “Grease Gun”. This very popular military machine gun is original including DoD Eagle stamp within a square clearly visible on left side of the receiver above the manufacturer’s name. Distinguishable from the left side from the M3 model due to the protective sheet metal “box” around the magazine release designed to prevent inadvertent release of the magazine. When viewed the right, the lack of a cocking lever is an even more noticeable “giveaway” difference between models. On the M3A1, the bolt is cocked by the firer opening the cover over the ejection port and pulling the bolt back using a deep recess in the front of the bolt. If the cover is closed, whether the bolt is cocked, or forward, a catch inside the ejector port cover holds the bolt in place for safety. The cover must be open for the gun to fire, which is does from an open bolt. Three original 32 round magazines are included. Three original 32 round magazines, a green canvas mag pouch, and a spare barrel with flash hider are included with this gun. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine original smooth gray finish with some light handling marks and loss of finish turning to a pleasing gray patina. There is some brown discoloration on the right side of the handgrip and some brown patina starting on the spare barrel, but this is a very attractive piece. Two of the magazines are a gray parkerized finish, and the other a deep lusterous blue finish. Mechanics are crisp. Bores of both barrels are extremely fine, shiny and bright. The Grease Gun is a highly sought World War II collectible machine gun. It is slow firing, controllable, and accurate. A very fun gun to shoot, and magazines are readily available when desired. A great gun for the active FFL/SOT holder which they can keep after they relinquish their license subject to BATF approval. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 TO ACTIVE FFL/SOT DEALERS ONLY. JWK 2020-05-005 Accessories: Canvas ammo pouch, three mags, extra barrel Barrel Length: 8" Caliber/Bore: .45 ACP FFL Status: NFA Manufacturer: Ithaca Model: M3A1 Grease Gun Serial Number: 726643

(N) HIGH CONDITION YUGOSLAVIAN MODEL 56 MACHINE GUN (PRE-86 DEALER SAMPLE).

Lot # 1084 (Sale Order: 84 of 385)

Very rare, high condition Yugoslavian M-56 machine gun. This Eastern Bloc gun appeared after World War II and was a replacement for the many heavily used wartime Ppsh-41’s that were in service at the time. It incorporates a tubular folding stock, folded metal trigger, and front sight hood reminiscent of the German MP-40. The magazine and top ejection port resemble those of the Russian PPSh-41 and PPS-43, and the receiver tube cap is reminiscent of the Beretta 38/43. It incorporates a simple and reliable push-through selector above and forward of the trigger, and a simple forward bolt lock which disengages when one depresses a tab at the front of the bolt handle. Four 35 round magazines are included. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent original matte finish with assembly numbers on receiver and barrel, and attractive Yugoslavian crest at top of receiver. This is a registered receiver select-fire machine gun. Mechanics are crisp. Magazines are extremely fine with some handling marks. Bore very fine, shiny and bright. Bolt very fine. This gun is a blast to shoot! Many shooters describe it as a “MP-40 on steroids” due to the higher rate of fire and power of the 7.62x25mm cartridge. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS TRANSFERABLE ONLY TO ACTIVE FFL/SOT DEALERS ON AN ATF FORM 3 BUT MAY BE RETAINED BY SOLE PROPRIETOR FFL/SOT HOLDERS WHEN THEY RELINQUISH THEIR LICENSES UPON BATF APPROVAL. (N) DEACTIVATED HISTORIC WORLD WAR I FRENCH CHAUCHAT MODEL 1915 MACHINE GUN (CURIO AND RELIC).

Lot # 1091 (Sale Order: 91 of 385)

Very fine condition deactivated French Chauchat model 1915 machine marked “C.S.R.G.” with matching numbered upper and lower receivers. Firing pin shaft is serial number 147439. Includes one original magazine and desirable anti-aircraft sights, both front and back. No indication of “SA” on receiver or other parts, and no “N” on the barrel, which indicates this well could have been a doughboy bring-back gun from World War I. Other indicators are the manner in which this gun was deactivated. The barrel has been plugged with weld at the chamber. The unnumbered bolt has been slightly ground at the center of the face, the firing pin tip ground away, the extractor ground away at the tip, and one locking lug of the bolt has been shattered off. This is the only Chauchat bolt that this cataloger has seen deactivated in this manner. Good news is none of these items of deactivation are beyond the ability of the appropriate restorer to remedy. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine, especially good for a Chauchat, about 85% original smooth blue finish turning a brown patina and otherwise thinning to a gray patina. "SA" marked magazine is mostly a gray patina with very little finish remaining. Charging handle knob out of round but still serviceable. Wood furnishings have some light handling marks and are extremely fine, very nice condition and very attractive. Although chamber is welded shut, bore was observed by dropping a small light down the muzzle, and the bore is fine with some darkness in the grooves. Bolt and internals are very clean. A very nice specimen of a very widely used and historic World War I machine gun. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 5 AS DEACTIVATED AND CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. Lot # 1092 (Sale Order: 92 of 385)

Three digit number (with no letter suffix) MP-40 with flat magazine housing manufactured by Steyr in 1941, as imported by “Inter American” of California as a Pre-86 Dealer Sample. Visible numbers appear matching on front sight hood, barrel resting bar, barrel, barrel retention nut, receiver, rear sight, lower receiver cup, trigger housing assembly, and both sides of swing-out shoulder loop. Bolt is mismatched 7235, and the early original to the gun flat magazine housing is unnumbered. End cap is marked "bnz 41" indicating Steyr manufacture, with Nazi proofs visible on other components as well. Barrel resting bar is a zinc casting. Grips are replacements from a much later manufactured gun and do not match the profile of this early pistol grip housing, but are completely tight and serviceable. A nice field expedient Waffenmeister type repair. No horizontal screw in forward slot of bakelite. No muzzle nut present. No sliding bolt locking safety, or its associated spring or ball-bearing present. Receiver tube does exhibit retrofit for MP-40 bolt safety lock. One post-War unmarked 32 round magazine is included with this gun. The flat housing MP-40 was the second transition MP-40 model after the ones which utilized the leftover MP-38 housings which had lightening holes in the sides. During use the flat “slab-sided” housing did not hold up as well to impact, and very soon the design was changed to the familiar corrugated mag housings. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish of gun is fair to good gray patina on receiver tube, magazine housing, lower receiver cup, and shoulder loop, as well as at the sling swivel points. Trigger housing and front sight hood also gray patina turning brown. Barrel, barrel nut, and recessed areas of trigger housing retain much more finish. Bakelite is very good with numerous handling marks with added hand inscribed initials, “MAS” on left side and larger “R.V.C.” on right side. Grips very good and solid with handling marks. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is very fine, shiny and bright. Bolt face is very good. This is a fully automatic only machine gun. Condition may not be high, but this gun is a nearly matching original early MP-40 which documents the components being used by Steyr during the early days of MP-40 production. By 1943, Steyr had produced at in excess of 63,000 more units, as evidenced by another MP-40 being offered in this same auction. It gives one pause to contemplate the true scale of Germany’s World War II production and logistics capacity. A great piece for the research minded FFL/SOT holding World War II enthusiast to take to the range and enjoy. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 TO ACTIVE FFL/SOT DEALERS ONLY. Lot # 1095 (Sale Order: 95 of 385)

Marked “76/45 John R Stemple” with serial number on right side of magazine housing, and includes a .45 ACP silencer manufactured by James M. Burgess of Wesserville, OH specifically for the Stemple model 76. Also included is a spare .45 ACP barrel for this gun, and set of conversion parts (barrel, bolt) to convert this gun to 9mm, and blue cover JMB manual for this suppressor and gun. Also included is the original barrel shroud, one .45 ACP M3 Grease Gun magazine which this gun utilizes. This machine gun is rather reminiscent of the M3 Grease Gun, notably the magazine release on the left side of the magazine housing, and telescoping shoulder loop. Rail with a very nice peer sight affixed to the top of the receiver tube. This is a full-auto only machine gun which fires from an open bolt, and the safety is a cutout slot for the bolt in the receiver tube in the same manner as the German MP-40, making it attractive to residents of states such as Connecticut. Receiver serial number is the only visible serial number on the magazine well. This Stemple’s barrel is ported into the silencer to bleed gas behind the projectile and make the sound suppression very effective. Owner’s manual indicates the suppressor is “fully cleanable and will last the life of the gun." CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent original gray parkerized finish on gun with black enamel paint finish on the 13 - 3/8" long silencer.
