(N) EXCEPTIONALLY RARE WORLD WAR II GERMAN 88MM PANZERSCHRECK 54 ROCKET LAUNCHER (DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE

Lot # 1101 (Sale Order: 101 of 385)

Very desirable German World War II Raketenpanzerbuchse 54 rocket launcher complete with shield and extremely rare original face protector. Two inert slightly undersized display rounds are also included with this lot. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent as repainted and with “stick-on” letters applied. Glass vision pane in shield extremely fine with some light scratches, with spare present in shield compartments apparently still unopened in paper. Bore also painted same green color as outside. Mechanics of firing mechanism handle have good tension, and actuator “snaps” when release lever is depressed but otherwise does not actuate the firing mechanism at the rear of the tube. ORIGINAL BRASS CARTRIDGE CASE FROM WORLD WAR I "BIG BERTHA" CANNON.

Lot # 1104 (Sale Order: 104 of 385)

Only one dozen massive "42cm Kurze Marinekanone 14 L/12 in Raderlafette" (42cm short naval cannon on wheeled carriage) were manufactured. The gun was nicknamed "Dicke Bertha" (Big Bertha) by German soldiers in World War I. The gun was designed under great secrecy by Krupp. At the time of construction, the Big Berthas were the largest and most powerful, movable artillery pieces by use of any army in the world. The gun could fire projectiles weighing close to one ton, almost six miles. Shells could penetrate close to 50 ft of concrete and soil. The crew to service one "Big Bertha" was 120 men. Cartridge casing has height of almost 17" bottom diameter of 16.8" a base diameter of 18.3" and weighs over 80 lbs. Casing is marked on base with various proofs and date of July (Juli) 1915 and maker "MAGDEBURG". Cartridge casing was not physically attached to the projectile. In operation of this massive gun, the projectile was loaded first, then cartridge with propellant charge was taken from a wicker basket designed to hold each cartridge, which included several hundred pounds of propellant charge. This massive casing is a very rare collector's item today and nearly all specimens were melted down for their scrap value in years past. CONDITION: Original unaltered unpolished, pleasing patina with scattered areas of more dark patina, with just traces of green verdigris. Interior completely unaltered and vintage. This is a fantastic military conversation piece that can also be used as a one-of-a-kind antique side table. TDW

Attractive black painted Watertown arsenal manufactured 3.6" breech loading mortar on green carriage manufactured in 1897, with original brass data plate on steel mount. "JEH" inspectors initials. This was the first breechloading mortar developed for the U.S. Army and still used a “bag” to contain the powder. POPULAR BRITISH ABBOT MODEL FV433 105 MM SELF PROPELLED GUN.

Lot # 1108 (Sale Order: 108 of 385)

Although often called a "Tank", the ABBOT FV-443 is actually a tracked self-propelled howitzer in a fully rotating turret on an armored chassis. The Abbot was fielded by the British in 1965 and its intended role was to provide tactical support on the battlefield shooting in an indirect fire role against anticipated invasion of Western Europe by the Soviet Union. Built by the Vickers corporation, these vehicles were produced from 1965-1967 and remained in the British inventory until 1995. The turret rotates through a full 360 degree rotation and the gun will depress as low as -5 degrees and elevate as high as +70 degrees. The L13A1 105 MM gun is currently non functional, but the breech ring and subsequent registration with the BATF is available completely separately from this auction through the consignor. Morphy Auctions will facilitate communication between the winning bidder and consignor, but makes no other warrantee whatsoever about the availability and transfer of the necessary parts to make the main gun live and registered. The engine is a Rolls-Royce K60 Mk 4G multi-fuel capable power plant which develops 240 horsepower at 3,750 RPM, and the vehicle can reach speeds up to 29 MPH, and can range as far as 300 miles with a 101 U.S. gallon (386 L) fuel tank. The Abbot does have a limited amphibious capacity when equipped with its flotation screen and can move at 3 MPH through water utilizing its own tracks. Parts remain available as this model is still in service in some significant quantity with the army of India. The good suspension of this vehicle combined with modern engine and availability of maintenance parts make it a popular armored vehicle for enthusiasts which want to drive, or provide "tank" rides, as it looks tough, and has a traditional turret. Weight: 18.2-tons (16,556-kg); Length: 19' 2" (5.84-m); Width: 8' 6" (2.64-m); Height: 8' 2" (2.18-m) CONDITION: Engine is in good operating order. Turret revolves properly. Interior upholstery in good condition. This vehicle is a real behemoth from the Viet Nam era and through the Desert Storm era. JWK 2020-05-092 Manufacturer: Vickers Vehicle ID Number: NID

Crest is topped by a crown, flanking lions, standing on a bed of florals. CONDITION: Good. Metal parts essentially now smooth silver with some minor areas of darkness. Silver toned, engraving still quite nice. Stock is good with some bumps and bruises from age, and a few extremely minor chips and reinforcements. Bore is excellent, bright on lands with some scattered darkness in grooves throughout. Lock will hold on half cock, but not full. Set triggers operate correctly. Sling is contemporary. (A) AMERICAN RESTOCKED SHORT LAND PATTERN 1777 SECOND MODEL BROWN BESS FLINTLOCK MUSKET.

Lot # 1125 (Sale Order: 125 of 385)

This musket has some Liege Pattern 1777 Short Land, or Second Model Brown Bess parts. These were produced for the British by the Belgians between 1778-1783. They were all made specifically for use in North America and saw extensive use here. Many examples such as this one have been restocked in America during their period of use. According to "The Brown Bess" by Erik Goldstein and Stewart Mobray, these muskets are scarce. The round tapered barrel is still its original full length with traces of intentionally removed proof marks on top near the breech. The tang was broken and repaired during the period of use, as it now terminates in a tombstone. The lock appears to be slightly later, as the markings are stamped rather than engraved. The tail is stamped "TOWER" and in the center there is a large crown over "GR". Below the pan has a stamped crown devoid of arrow denoting British ownership. Standard British Second Model brass furniture including a flat sideplate and ramrod ferrules with no Pratt improvement. The musket is restocked in cherry, and the wrist escutcheon from the original musket was not reused. An additional screw was added at the time of restocking to the front trigger guard tang. Complete with a replacement iron ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel was cleaned at one time and now retains a light grey patina with some darker spots and some corrosion towards the breech. Touch hole has been relined. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration. Cock is a probable replacement. Lock mechanism is strong and functions well. Markings are clear. Lock retains a grey patina with some scattered freckling. Brass is polished and shows scattered marks from use. Stock is very good with no restoration. There is some scattered cracks, minor chips, and marks from use. Trigger guard has a break through the rear trigger guard tang screw, but is completely intact and secure. An attractive American restocked musket. DMG Barrel Length: 42" Caliber/Bore: .80 Smoothbore FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: Tower Model: Restocked Short Land Pattern Serial Number: NSN
