(C) BENCHMARK CONDITION FACTORY ENGRAVED COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER BY MASTER ENGRAVER R.J. KO

Lot # 1306 (Sale Order: 203 of 323)

Near new condition and well documented Colt Single Action Army revolver, factory engraved by renowned Colt Master Engraver Rudolph J. Kornbrath. Considered by many Colt collectors and historians to be one of the finest if not the finest master engraver of the 20th century. Austrian born R.J. Kornbrath emigrated to the United States in 1910 and began working for Colt in 1919 until a disabling stroke ended his career in 1937. This superlative Colt, serial number 355162 shipped on April 4, 1935 to Wolf & Klar in Forth Worth Texas. Nickel-plated, 4 - 3/4" barrel with correct 2-line barrel address, chambered in .45 LC. Accompanying Colt Archival letter dated September 15, 1966, signed by R.H. Wagner, documents caliber, barrel length, nickel finish, rubber grips, factory engraved and shipped as a one gun shipment to Wolf & Klar on April 4, 1935. Well known Colt collector and previous owner of serial number 355162, Jonathan Peck had a second Colt Master Engraver and artisan, Alvin A. White replace the rubber grips with custom made and fitted Mother of Pearl grips featuring a carved "Texas Lone Star" motif with an inlaid gold medallion marked: "State of Texas" with a "Lone Star" engraved in the medallion center. Late Colt historian and author, R.L. "Larry" Wilson many times referred to Alvin A. White as the "Dean of American Arms Engravers". These spectacular pearl grips are evidence of that claim. Accompanying the revolver is a second pair of period correct Colt black hard rubber grips custom fitted to the gun. This Colt is pictured in three of Wilson's books including, "The Book of Colt Engraving", "Colt Engraving", and "Fine Colts, the Dr. Joseph Murphy Collection". Engraving is superior quality of approximate grade -C- coverage featuring Kornbrath classic Germanic scrollwork with near full coverage on the cylinder and a unique frame design that runs over onto the backstrap and triggerguard giving a seamless appearance of one-piece construction. All screw heads, including the grip screw, are engraved. Also included is a period correct Colt hinged maroon box with original end label marked " ENGRAVED" / "4 3/4, Colts Army S.A. Revolver .45" / "Rubber Nickel". The providence and previous ownership of this fine Colt reads like a chapter of "Who is Who" in the world of Colt collecting beginning with Wolf & Klar, I.E.P Waggoner, Ray Prater, Jonathan Peck, Richard Ellis, Joseph Murphy, Brad Witherell, and Doug Stein. CONDITION: Near new in every respect. The gun shows little to no wear with virtually all the bright original nickel remaining. The bore is bright and clean. Cylinder chambers are bright. No drag line on the cylinder. Grips are near mint. Condition of this revolver would be nearly impossible to improve upon and should be viewed as an opportunity to own one of the best in originality and condition. (C) IMPORTANT ENGRAVED CROFT-KEITH SEDGLEY REMODELED COLT BISLEY FEATHERWEIGHT SINGLE ACTION REVOLV

Lot # 1313 (Sale Order: 210 of 323)

In the 1920's Harold Croft left Pennsylvania with a suitcase full of six guns on a train headed to Durkey, Oregon. He was taking four guns out to show to the famed long-range shooter Elmer Keith. These were Models 1 - 4 that he had developed out of two Colt Single Action Army's and two Bisley model revolver's. Model No. 1 and No. 3 were Single Action Army's and Model No. 2 and No. 4 were the Bisley Models. Croft called them Featherweights. He had removed the ejector rod and housing, machined out the recoil shield, narrowed the frame and trigger guard. Made them into flat tops and added adjustable sights. There is a photograph on page 125 in Elmer Keith's book "Hell, I Was There!" of Croft holding this gun sitting with Elmer Keith. All of Crofts's guns weighed between 30 - 32 ounces. This gun weighs 29.3 ounces. Out of the four guns this is the only one that remains in the original .45 Colt caliber. The other three guns have been converted to .44-40 caliber. On the flat top it is inscribed "S.H. CROFT FEATHERWEIGHT / REMODELED BY R.F. SEDGLEY-INC." and on the left side of the barrel is "MODEL NO. 4" on the right side of the barrel is "MAY 1926". Wilber Glahn engraved this gun with a vine and floral motif. The 2-piece grips are of curly maple. There was an article written on this gun in the August 2018 edition of Guns magazine. This gun was bought at auction at the Terre Haute First National Bank on November 20, 1981. That was the only time it was ever offered publicly. This gun has been in a vault for the last 40 years and was thought that it was lost to the collecting community. CONDITION: All of the machine work that has been done to this gun was superbly executed. The 2-piece grips show just a bit of handling wear but fit the gun expertly. Bright and shiny bore with sharp lands and grooves. The blue shows high edge wear and the grip straps are worn. A piece of firearm's development history. REW Barrel Length: 4 - 1/2" Caliber/Bore: .45 Colt FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Sedgley/Colt Model: Featherweight Bisley Paperwork: Provenance Serial Number: 4

AWARD WINNING COLT PLASTICS DIVISION DISPLAY.

Lot # 1314 (Sale Order: 211 of 323)

This extraordinary display of products manufactured by the Colt Plastics Division beginning in the early 1920-1950s, won 3 awards during the Ohio Gun Collectors May 2015 show including: (1) Robert Rubendunst Best Educational Award, (2) 1st Place Modern Division, and (3) Best 1st Time Displayer Award. It also won the following awards during the 2013 Colt Collector's Association show in Norman, Oklahoma: (1) Most Educational Award, (2) Best in Memorabilia Award. The Colt Plastics Division began in the early 1920's as part of Colts Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company out of Hartford, Connecticut. Colt's first "plastics" were molded using heat and compression, or thermosetting. With Bakelite being very prevalent thermosetting compound used during the time period, Colt decided to produce their own version. "Coltrock", made of phenol-formaldehyde, was the name assigned to this new material by then-president Samuel Stone. Many of the early products made of Coltrock were used as smoking accessories and electrical components due to their ability to withstand high temperatures. Some examples of such items include "Pipe-A-Dor", "Lady Nicotine", "Jarette", and "Foursome" to name a few. As technology and materials used evolved, Coltrock was discontinued in approximately 1936. Where Coltrock and thermosetting left off, more modern plastic compounds and injection molding took over. A very successful line of cosmetic jars and vanity accessories were composed of urea-formaldehyde. Eyecups, radio knobs, buttons, lids, and many other products were included in Colt's lineup. In addition, Colt manufactured "cosmetic jewelry" gemstones using methyl methacrylate and ethyl cellulose called "Coltstones". Colt's Plastic Division was sold in 1955 to Penn Texas Corporation and in 1959 to Bentley Plastics Company, the company remains in business today. This remarkable collection contains over 100 pieces of all the described products, including an only known jewelry box. Also included are 2 Colt manufactured adding machines private labeled for Standard Federal. A number of important Colt archival drawings and other documents are included. The entire collection is being offered as 1 lot. CONDITION: Excellent overall with all original artifacts in undamaged fine or better condition. A most unique collection and unique opportunity to acquire an important piece of Colt Manufacturing history. MKS This is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made.
