(N) VERY FINE ORIGINAL GERMAN MP-44 MACHINE GUN (CURIO & RELIC).

Lot # 1005 (Sale Order: 5 of 460)

Extremely fine condition, original matching ERMA manufactured MP44. Visible numbers appear all matching including charging handle, buttstock assembly, hand grip assembly and bolt. Nazi proof marks on numerous parts with "WaA" proofs as well. Underside of receiver eagle over "280" indicating ERMA manufacture along with "cos" indicating Mertzwerke, which was a sheet metal firm subcontractor. This weapon was manufactured in 1944 and indicated on the left side of receiver. Nazi eagle proof cartouche visible on left side of buttstock. The MP44 series of weapons was the first assault rifle design which uses an intermediate cartridge; the 7.92x33mm cartridge was not so powerful as the 8x57mm full power rifle round but significantly more powerful than the 9mm Parabellum pistol round. This rifle was a highly effective improvement over the standard bolt action rifle because not only was is semi-automatic with a large magazine capacity but it also could provide automatic fire fulfilling a soldier's needs in many situations. The fact that the cartridge was smaller in length and in weight meant that the solders could carry more ammunition readily available. Includes three original MP44 marked magazines, all manufactured by "fxo" (C.G. Haenel). CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine, approaching near excellent original finish overall with some typical wear to the high edges and some thinning. Wood has some light handling marks and a few bruises. Action is very smooth. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face is also near excellent. This is a select fire machine gun. The MP44 was in an important historical development in the field of military weapons and the condition of this one makes it an outstanding opportunity for the World War II collector/investor. From the estate of noted cartridge collector and World War II veteran William H. Woodin. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. (N) HIGHLY DESIRABLE ORIGINAL MATCHING WWII GERMAN MP-40 MACHINE GUN (CURIO & RELIC).

Lot # 1006 (Sale Order: 6 of 460)

Really nice original German MP-40 manufactured by “bnz” (Steyr) in 1943. Visible numbers are matching throughout including barrel, which also has original and rare eagle over 623 (Steyr) with “ar” over “bnz” shield logo. Other parts noteworthy of being matching include sight hood, receiver tube, bolt, rear sight, lower receiver cup, grip frame and swing-out shoulder loop. This gun exhibits the later manufacturing technique of having trunnion retained by indentation on top and bottom of receiver tube. Barrel resting bar not present, but these are readily available. Other specimens of guns made at Steyr during this same serial number range have had bakelite barrel resting bars. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine to extremely fine, original finish with a soft brown patina on exposed sheet metal parts with more of a grey-brown patina on the grip frame. Upon disassembly and examining the inside of the receiver tube one finds far nicer finish remaining. Just as one would expect a combat field-used machine gun to be. Mechanics are crisp. Bore rifling is extremely fine, shiny and bright. Bolt face is very fine. There is a small spot of weld just at lower edge of the ejector port which no doubt was where this gun was deactivated at one point. This is a full-auto only machine gun. Please take note that although in a deactivated legal status there does not appear to be any damage to the chamber whatsoever. Apparently, the bolt was just welded closed by touching weld at the ejection port. The MP-40 needs no introduction to the World War II collector or recreational machine gun enthusiast. Considered by many to be one of the best entry-level historical machine guns, it is slow firing, from an open bolt, with parts, magazines and ammunition readily available. In the interest of retaining this guns attractiveness as a matching combat used gun, this gun has no been altered from as found. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 5 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE DEACTIVATED MACHINE GUN. THIS GUN MAY BE REACTIVATED UPON APPROVAL OF APPLICATION TO THE BATF. Morphy’s can facilitate legal re-activation through a local FFL/SOT manufacturer we work closely with should the buyer desire quick and legal activation after winning this gun at auction, but prior to transfer. (N) NICELY ACCESSORIZED GERMAN WORLD WAR 2 ERMA MP-40 MACHINE GUN (CURIO & RELIC).

Lot # 1014 (Sale Order: 14 of 460)

With an estimated 1,100,000 MP-40 submachine guns manufactured during the course of World War 2, one does not have to wonder why the MP-40 is so synonymous with Germany's Third Reich in nearly all forms of modern day media. Easily recognizable even to the uninitiated, the MP-40's presence in movies such as Indian Jones and video games like that of Call of Duty, continue to garner it interest, even with the youth of today. A claim not many firearms, especially those of the mid-20th century, can claim. This example was manufactured by Erma Werke in 1943. This gun was acquired from a large TV & movie prop rental house, confirmed by the consignor and other indicators including the serial number on the receiver being lined out, and the second being that the bore is threaded towards the muzzle, which was done in order to accept an internal blank firing adapter. The lower assembly is marked "MP40/ ayf 43" above the serial number, followed by "cos" for Merz-Werke. Merz-werke "cos" proof is also present on the bottom of the receiver, just ahead of the magazine well. Eagle over "280" and eagle over "WaA44" waffenamts are present throughout. Left side of barrel is import stamped "CADMUS INO". Matching numbers include the receiver, rear sight assembly, barrel, barrel nut, resting bar, lower assembly, trigger guard, folding stock, bolt, and firing pin. Front sight hood is of the MP-38 variation and does not match. This example comes well accessorized, with the accessories including one complete barrel assembly, one incomplete barrel, a contemporary black leather sling, four total magazines, and a "VIGN" marked magazine loader. PROVENANCE: Copy of original Form 3 with transfer from Dan Shea, Long Mountain Outfitters, and inventory sheet from Ellis Prop liquidation listing this gun by serial number. CONDITION: Metal components retain good amounts of their original arsenal applied blue finish, exhibiting wear and thinning all around that shows through to gray and brown patinas, as well as scattered marks from use. Protected areas on the bottom of the receiver retain more plentiful amounts of original blue finish. Bore exhibits oxidation, but retains well defined lands and grooves throughout. Bakelite resting bar shows some minor chips and nicks, but is otherwise good. This is a nice example of an Erma manufactured MP-40, that on top of being a great shooter, will allow the new owner to own a piece of Hollywood movie magic in the form of an outstanding Class 3 selection. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. Accessories: Four magazines, magazine loader, two spare barrels Barrel Length: 9 - 1/2" Caliber/Bore: 9mm Para FFL Status: NFA Manufacturer: Erma Model: MP-40 Paperwork: Translated MP38/MP40 Luftwaffe manual, Form 3, Inventory Sheet Serial Number: 3955N
