(C) COLT GOVERNMENT MODEL 1911 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL, SHIPPED TO RUSSIA IN 1916.

Lot # 1379 (Sale Order: 276 of 302)

Shipped June 13th, 1916 as per factory letter from Colt. Russia funneled most of the purchases through Britain, which were marked in Cyrillic on the dust cover; this gun is not marked as such and the letter indicates shipment straight to Russia. Half-moon front sight, U-notch flat top rear sight. 2-line 2-block patent dates and Colt information on left side of slide, Rampant Colt at rear of slide. Right side with "COLT AUTOMATIC / CALIBRE 45". Frame with "GOVERNMENT MODEL / C 42643". Left side of trigger guard with "b" subinspector proof and Colt's "VP" proof. Checkered spur hammer, left side only safety with thick tab, slide release with relief mill cut, and magazine release. Short 1911 grip safety, flat smooth mainspring housing with lanyard loop. 2-piece truncated diamond walnut grips. 2-tone magazine with lanyard loop. These rare guns were shipped into Murmansk and Archangel before distribution to Russian forces, beyond that little of their history is known; however, there is one account that a 1911 was used to kill the Romanovs. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter listing this pistol by serial number as being shipped to Russia June 13th, 1916. Front grip strap has an adhesive paper label reading "6275", meaning unknown. CONDITION: Very good, particularly considering that most of these pistols are found in heavily used condition. Retains approximately 40% of the factory blue finish. Slide has extensive silvering to high edges, top, and barrel hood, with strong areas of blue still present, primarily on slides and around sights. Frame retains stronger areas of blue, primarily around dust cover and trigger guard areas, with straps being gunmetal grey. One set of fingerprints is visible on the rear strap. Somewhat heavier than normally seen marks from handling and operation throughout, including takedown mark. Magazine is very good. Grips are very good with no discernible cracks. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with strong rifling and frosting throughout. There is a small import mark on the magazine well indicating import by Simpson Ltd, Galesburg, IL. EMW Barrel Length: 5" Caliber/Bore: .45 ACP FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1911 Paperwork: Colt Letter Serial Number: C42643

(C) COLT 1911 FRAME MANUFACTURED IN 1915, SPRINGFIELD ARMORY SUSPENDED RANGE, WITH SAVAGE SLIDE.

Lot # 1382 (Sale Order: 279 of 302)

Frame manufactured 1915. Half-moon front sight, U-notch flat top rear sight. Right side of slide with "MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY", left side of slide with 3-line 1-block patent information and "S" flaming bomb stamp that is generally accepted to be the mark of A.J. Savage Munitions Co.. Barrel hood is stamped with intertwined "HP" that share a leg. Frame stamped "H" at top of bridle near disconnector hole. Left side of dust cover marked 'UNITED STATES PROPERTY" in serif font, right side of frame with serial number. Interestingly, there are no inspection marks on this pistol aside from the "H" stamp; this is correct and Colt serial numbers 128617 - 129616 actually fall within the Springfield Armory assigned range but are listed in the Colt factory ledger. Speculation on the reasons for these pistols ranges from Colt manufacturing pistols intended as spares or building complete pistols from excess Springfield inventory after they terminated their contract. Small parts comprise checkered spurred hammer, thick tab safety with relief mill cut, checkered slide release with relief mill cut, short 1911 grip safety, long smooth trigger, checkered magazine release, flat smooth mainspring housing, truncated diamond walnut grips. 2-tone magazine with no lanyard loop stamped "A" on lip for American Pin Co. CONDITION: Overall very good, retaining the majority of the factory bluing with handling marks and evidence of use throughout. Slide has several areas of brown patina coming up through the blue, primarily towards muzzle and on chin of slide. Some silvering to high edges throughout. Frame is very good, better than slide, with spotted oxidation along dust cover. Front strap and mainspring housing are essentially patina with an even layer of oxidation, grip safety has spotted oxidation en suite with dust cover. Small parts en suite. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with strong visible rifling and even frosting throughout. A scarce gun in this serial number range. (C) SCARCE SMITH & WESSON MODEL 1940 MARK II SEMI-AUTOMATIC LIGHT RIFLE

Lot # 1394 (Sale Order: 291 of 302)

With war looming with Germany during the late 1930s, Britain needed a small arm for their infantrymen that would fill the gap between an SMLE Enfield rifle and the Bren light machine gun. With Britain's own industrial industry being pushed to its limit, Britain required a foreign firearms manufacturer to develop and produce this new rifle. Smith & Wesson accepted the contract and assigned their Chief Engineer Edward S. Pomeroy to fabricate the design, and in 1940 the first prototypes for Smith & Wesson's Model 1940 Light Rifle reached England for trials testing. The rifle was not well received, owing to its overall weight and its poor durability, with some examples developing stress cracks on their receivers after firing around 1,000 rounds. Smith & Wesson quickly remedied this by adding a sleeve that strengthened the receiver and shipping these new Mark II rifles for further testing, but the project was ultimately canceled. After the war, the British destroyed the Model 1940 Light rifles they had remaining in stock and threw them into the English Channel, largely facilitating the rifle's scarcity amongst collectors today. This example is stamped "SMITH & WESSON/ SPRINGFIELD, MASS.U.S.A." followed by the S&W logo on the left side of the receiver, with the right side bearing stampings stipulating the patent information. Bottom of receiver bears the serial number "1528" followed by MK2". The left side of the buttstock features a metal plate that reads "EXTREMELY / HAZARDOUS / DO NOT / LOAD OR FIRE". Features include a blued finish, fluted barrel, blade front sight, adjustable square notch rear sight, a distinct magazine well / ejection port, as well as a smooth tenite buttstock fitted with a serrated metal buttplate. Matching numbers are present on the lower receiver assembly, upper receiver assembly, as well as on the buttplate. Accompanying this example is a letter from Smith & Wesson stating that this is a collectors item and should not be loaded and fired, a copy of the BATF's Curio & Relics Exemption List listing the Model 40 Light Rifles as exempt, 2 spare springs, as well as a brown leather sling. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their original factory-applied blue finish, exhibiting some areas of light wear from operation of the action, as well as some scattered superficial marks from handling and storage that show through to silvering. Very bright bore, exhibiting what appears to be some old firing residue in the lands and retaining well-defined rifling throughout. Tenite buttstock is very good, exhibiting some scattered minor handling marks, but is otherwise fine. A very nice and attractive example of a scarce Smith & Wesson Model 1940 Mark II Light Rifle. MLW Accessories: Sling, Spare springs (with paperwork) Barrel Length: 9 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: 9mm Para FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: S&W Model: 40 Paperwork: Factory Warning Letter, BATF Curio & Relics Exemption Listing Serial Number: 1528

Removable top shelf has pistol rack for storing pistols, Mr. du Pont's shooting glasses, and a candle that would have been used to smoke the sights and increase the contrast between sights and target. Additionally, there are staples, whistle, cleaning pads, bracket, multitool, and additional magazines. Magazines are electropencilled with a number, a common practice across the shooting disciplines. Finally is a copy of the NRA Pistol Rules pamphlet marked "W.K. du Pont" on front and with a drawing on the rear of a sight picture; evidently, Mr. Du Pont favored a 6 o'clock hold. (M) EXCEPTIONALLY RARE PACHMAYR SIGNATURE SERIES COLT MK IV SERIES 70 .38 SUPER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTO

Lot # 1398 (Sale Order: 295 of 302)

Manufactured by Colt in 1972, with Pachmayr invoice dated 1975. The Signature Series was Pachmayr's move into the 1911 accurization community, providing top tier accurization without requiring the extensive services of a gunsmith and hours of fitting. Instead, a radial bushing, frame tightener, breech pin, Bo-Mar rear sight, and other internal improvements brought the level of fit required for extreme accuracy. Other features include standard rollmarks, added "Pachmayr Signature Model" on right side of slide, polished narrow spurred hammer, short serrated trigger, Pachmayr wraparound grips, Pachmayr rubber mainspring housing, left only grip safety. This specimen is particularly desirable because it is one of the extremely rare .38 Super Signatures, with less than 5 speculated to have been manufactured. Adding to this already very scarce gun is the accompanying paperwork indicating that the gun was purchased from J.D. Jones, the famed wildcatter who founded SKK Industries and had significant developmental interest in the Thompson Contender. Accompanying this very rare gun is both the Colt factory box and the Pachmayr invoice to J.D. Jones by serial number, photos of Jones shooting this gun off the hood of a car, and an article penned by J.D. Jones about this gun. The Colt box contains the original Colt .38 Super barrel, a patent drawing of the gun, test targets, and small tools. CONDITION: Very good, retaining nearly all of the Pachmayr bluing with strong legends and some minor marks from handling and use throughout. Some marks on high edges, most particularly noticeable on the frame accurizing bracket. Mechanically excellent, bore is excellent with strong rifling. Box is very good with some age-related distress and some lifting of the paper from where tape was removed long ago. A high condition and very rare handgun. EMW Accessories: Box Barrel Length: 5" Caliber/Bore: .38 Super FFL Status: Modern Manufacturer: Colt Model: Government Model Paperwork: Info Serial Number: 70S04557

(C) FN HI POWER FROM THE SO-CALLED "OMANI CONTRACT" WITH SHOULDER STOCK, BOX, AND LETTER.

Lot # 1401 (Sale Order: 298 of 302)

According to Vanderlinden, belief is that these pistols were shown to an Omani delegation in a variety of finishes in features in order to secure a contract that never materialized. This example is slotted for a stock and has a 500 meter tangent sight, inverted-V front sight, external extractor, ring hammer, and black composite grips. The right side of the slide, just ahead of the ejection port, is roll marked with the seal of Oman; this example has the correct orientation of the scabbard pointing to the left, while others are known to have been rolled pointing right. Accompanying is a walnut Belgian military flatboard stock with attached holster, marked with a boxed "C" on the iron and a "(Crown) / GC" acceptance mark on the board. Blue cardboard box with embossed FN seal on lid, 3 extra magazines (2 extended), cleaning rod. Serial number is written on bottom of box. A letter with FN logo at top entitled "MUSCAT & OMAN" and recounts that Said Bin Taimur placed a very small, very precise order with FN, who did not want to deal with the specifics and quoted an absurd price which the Sultanate paid. However, when the pistols were delivered, Taimur was furious that part of his logo was omitted and tried to return the pistols, which F.N. refused. Under further threats to his life, Taimur negotiated for 27 guns (partial credit was applied from the first contract), with simpler specifications and corrected crests. Taimur was assassinated in July 1970, and his son ordered the pistols returned. The letter is not signed or addressed. CONDITION: Overall excellent, retaining virtually all of the deep blue, almost black, finish, with some extremely minor marks from handling and storage. Magazine release is stuck, preventing extraction of magazine and checking the disconnect, but is otherwise mechanically fine. Bore is excellent with strong rifling and some very light frosting in grooves. Board is excellent, possibly refreshed, with a faint double strike of the crown stamp visible under close inspection. Some verdigris on brass components that does not detract. Box is excellent with some age related distress and a tear on one apron. Some minor staining. A rare gun. EMW Accessories: Stock/Holster, Box with Accessories Barrel Length: 4 - 5/8" Caliber/Bore: 9mm Para FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: FN Model: Hi Power Paperwork: Info, manual Serial Number: T195567
