(A) CONFEDERATE ASSEMBLED AUSTRIAN MUSKET WITH CITY OF RICHMOND MARKED BARREL.

Lot # 3307 (Sale Order: 307 of 711)

Stock and lock are of Austrian manufacture, 1854 pattern. The barrel is an American musket barrel, period marked "CITY OF RICHMOND" on the top. An identical marking can be found on a Confederate altered French 1777 Colonial & Marine musket that was sold out of the Ben Michel collection in 2007 by Julia's. This gun features a drum conversion to percussion. 40 - 5/8 inches long barrel with a simple and period post style front sight. The Austrian lock plate has been modified for use with the American barrel. The bands, while being of the Austrian pattern, may very well be Confederate made. Standard 1854 pattern stock with raised cheek rest on the left side. This gun has what appears to be a period wood ramrod. CONDITION: Gun is in attic untouched condition and has never been cleaned. Pitting on lock plate and breech area of barrel. The wood shows a decent amount of burn out behind the nipple with a "bleached" area commonly found on Confederate used rifles and muskets due to the fulminated mercury found in the Confederate percussion caps. Some wood loss at the front top of the lock. Wood shows a good amount of wear and dings. Lock is in good mechanical function, does not have a half cock. This gun certainly shows heavy use. GR Barrel Length: 40-1/2" Caliber/Bore: .75 Smoothbore FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: Unknown Model: Musket Serial Number: NSN
