(C) Rare Argentine 1941 Navy Colt Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol with Swartz Safety.

Lot # 408 (Sale Order: 403 of 545)

Often misunderstood, this commercial Colt ordered for the Argentine Navy in 1941 is actually as a rare as a Singer or North American Arms. According to records, the Argentine Navy ordered 500 "off the shelf" Colt commercial Model 1911's in two shipments; they were then marked on the top of the slide with the Argentine crest and the right side of the slide is stamped "REPUBLICA ARGENTINA ARMADA NATIONALE - 1941". Of these 500 pistols, the majority were recalled for inspection and parkerized leaving the existing supply of Colt made and factory blue examples even smaller. It is a true prize for military Colt collectors due to the small number of pistols ordered. This pistol has matching slide and is equipped with the Swartz safety that was first experimented with in 1936. All other features are identical to any Colt Commercial Model 1911A1 manufactured in 1941 as they were completely built by the Colt factory. This rare example still retains 75-80% of its original Colt factory blue finish with razor sharp legends. All pre-war checkered parts and checkered walnut grips. The blued barrel is simply stamped "COLT .45 AUTO". The majority of wear on this pistol can be found on the grips straps with overall high edge wear. Fine bore and action. One of the hardest to find, unadulterated pre-war Colts.Barrel Length: 5"Caliber/Bore: .45 ACPFFL Status: Curio & RelicManufacturer: ColtModel: 1911Paperwork: No Serial Number: C200749

(C) Colt Model 1911 U.S. Navy Semi-Automatic Pistol (1918).

Lot # 410 (Sale Order: 405 of 545)

According to the research, the frame of this gun was made in 1918 and does not fall into the Navy serial number range, and all pistols sent to the Navy in 1918 were marked "US ARMY" as the last of the Navy marked slides were prior to 1916. Here we have a standard U.S. Army 1918 frame and a beautiful, all original pre-1916 U.S. Navy slide with small rounded Type I rear sight, Type I front sight and retaining 85-90% of the original Colt blue. The frame itself has the Colt 1918 eagle head inspector stamp and is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". Frame retains approximately 50% original blue. Diamond checkered grips show wear. Lanyard ring magazine. Barrel is simply stamped "P" on top and has a good bore. Obviously the real value is the Navy slide that would be perfect on an original 85-90% U.S. Navy in the proper serial range.Barrel Length: 5"Caliber/Bore: .45 ACPFFL Status: Curio & RelicManufacturer: ColtModel: 1911Paperwork: No Serial Number: 418512
