(A) Near New Colt Lightning Slide Action .32 Medium Frame Rifle (1887)

Lot # 494 (Sale Order: 485 of 545)

This is a sad tale of a rifle that remains in almost brand spanking new condition. All original, does not appear to be fired, but somewhere, sometime a person with extremely acidic hands grabbed the rifle at the rear of the frame and carried it where upon it was put away without cleaning or oiling. The result is the back right half of the frame is solid soft brown patina moving forward to some freckles which turns into 100% brilliant bright factory Colt blue. Right side extractor still has case colors, the forward two screws have all fire blue finish, all feature true screw heads. The same brown patina blends with blue on the rear top of frame about 1" and both upper and lower tang are brown patina. The trigger guard is a mix of blue soft homogeneous patina, the left side of the frame retains 99.9% of the bright factory blue with brilliant colors on extractor, strong colors on hammer, all screws Nitre blue, buttplate has 99% of original blue finish with fire blue screws, and a couple of flakes on upper buttplate tang. The wood has a few light impressions, the checkered forend is near mint with brilliant bright blue screws, the barrel and magazine retain 99.9% original blue, not even any muzzle wear nor even any high edge wear at magazine, has razor sharp blued edges with razor sharp legends. Mirror bore and as new action. Standard features include: full octagon barrel, full magazine, rocky mountain front sight, sporting rear sight, blue finish, walnut stocks, and rifle buttplate. This is the closest example to a Colt Lightning Pump unfired rifle. Even as the right frame drips to patina it is still one of the most handsome examples we have seen. From the G. (A) H.H. Wolcott (President of Starr Arms) Single Shot Falling Block Rifle.

Lot # 495 (Sale Order: 486 of 545)

H.H. Wolcott was the President of the Starr Arms Company in the 1860's. Mr. Wolcott developed his post Civil War carbine for the military trials of 1865. He received a patent on June 13 1865. An example of this developmental carbine is pictured in the famous Francis Bannerman "RING OF CARBINES" that was use through 1938 in his arms catalogs. Two variations where produced a .50 cal, military carbine and a .44 cal, civilian sporting rifle. This rifle is a single shot falling block that features octagon barrel, folding rear ladder sight, case colored frame, walnut stock, and carbine style buttplate. The only marks on the gun is "H.H. WOLCOTT" on top of barrel and rear tang. Can find no mention of H.H. Wolcott rifles in the Grant Single Shot book series, nor is he mentioned in Flayderman's, nor is there any information under Starr Arms regarding this rifle. This rifle was the subject of a wonderful article published in the November 2001 "GUN REPORT" on pages 34 through 37 and written by the owner Thomas Pruett. Very little is known about these post war firearms as it was a turbulent period for American arms manufactures. The introduction of new cartridge development and sudden loss of arms consumption due to the end of hostilities saw the collapse and failure of many of Americas arms manufacturers'. Barrel retains 98% original blue. Frame retains 75% case colors, not bright. All screws are true with fire blue finish. Stocks are excellent. 30% case colors on buttplate. Bore is near mint. H.H. Wolcott was the President of the Starr Arms Company in the 1860's. Mr. Wolcott developed his post Civil War carbine for the military trials of 1865. He received a pa...moretent on June 13 1865. Action is like new. It is not known how many prototypes were manufactured but if you are a collector of single shots, you will probably never see another example. From the G. (A) Confederate 2nd Model LeMat Grapeshot Revolver.

Lot # 500 (Sale Order: 491 of 545)

Standard configuration, full octagonal barrel marked "Col. Lemat Bte s.g.d.g. Paris". This is an honest example of the famous grapeshot revolver that would have been in the Confederate Army in early 1863. Survival on guns prior to about serial number 1450 are much lower than later guns. These guns saw typically hard use in the Confederate Army and Navy and only a small percentage still retain the original loading assembly such as this example. This gun also has a most interesting period well-fit trap door on right grip panel to hold caps or extra nipples. This gun has "CS" and "SC" surcharges which are very old and appear from their period of use not seen on any other Confederate LeMat previously. Good to very good condition overall. Markings are crisp and well-defined; all matching serial numbers as noted above, other than cylinder which is numbered 1173. This gun is complete and all-matching, functional with minor restoration to shotgun selector on tip of hammer, loading lever screw and sight are period replacements. Metal is overall mottled gray with scattered freckling and dark spots, a few scattered marks from use and slight marring to some screws. A very honest and scarce Confederate LeMat revolver.<br/>Barrel Length: 6-3/4"/5"Caliber/Bore: .42 Caliber/18 GaugeFFL Status: AntiqueManufacturer: LeMatModel: 2nd ModelPaperwork : No Serial Number: 1174

(A) Prototype Roth-Theodorovic Semi-Automatic Pistol.

Lot # 504 (Sale Order: 495 of 545)

Roth–Theodorovic pistols were a series of prototypes sometimes identified with model years including 1895, 1897 and 1898. These long-recoil, locked-breech, double-action semi-automatic pistols were designed by Austrian inventor Wasa Theodorovic with the financial support of George Roth. Early versions were unusually large with an oversize trigger guard and an elongated grip. The internal magazine was top loaded from a stripper clip. A group of 25 pistols submitted for Austrian military trials brought no orders. The design saw numerous modifications including a shorter grip, a decocker, a Tambour grip safety, and a rotating and swiveling ring for attaching a lanyard. Later modifications were made by inventor Karel Krnka. Although these prototypes never entered mass production, some of their features were later incorporated into such successful models as the Frommer Stop and the Roth–Steyr Model 1907. The above Wikipedia information is about all the information one can find on these early pre-production models. It is estimated that less than 100 of al prototypes were manufactured, and in searching the internet for images, we could not find a single example that matched this one exactly, as the experimentation of different features seemed to be continuous. It was not until Roth joined with the Steyr factory and the development of the Model 1904 and finally the refined Model 1907 that Roth finally hit a sellable design. The 1907 was considered such a fine gun that production never reached commercial capacity with the main contract being the Austrian government and supplied to their army, which 80,000 were delivered between 1908 and 1914. The only serial number we could find upon completely stripping this handgun down is No. 132H stamped on the inside right grip panel. This example is a double action that features large elongated checkered bird's head grip. Swivel on this example is fixed and does not move. Top of the barrel is stamped "PATENT" with "CR" in circle. Metal is basically a smooth grey patina with age freckling. Grips are very good to excellent with wear. Fine bore and action. There is a video of a similar prototype showing takedown procedure. An extremely rare, experimental pre-turn of the century semi-automatic pistol in all original untouched condition.Barrel Length: 5 - 3/8"Caliber/Bore: 8mmFFL Status: AntiqueManufacturer: Roth KrnkaModel: Prototype 1895Paperwork : No Serial Number: 132H

Lot # 505 (Sale Order: 496 of 545)

This is another new to market Harper’s Ferry flintlock pistol that is previously unrecorded. This particular gun was made in the last year of production in 1808 and is so marked on the lock. The barrel breech is marked serial number "1806" along with partial "US" proof. This gun is in the standard configuration. Lock is marked "HARPERS/FERRY/1808" in vertical arcs behind cock. The wood opposite the lock is marked with script inspector initials "V" over "JS" for James Stubblefield. This gun is unlisted in "Harpers Ferry Arsenal and Joseph Perkin The Classic Arms of the Early Years", 2012, by Hudak. Fair condition overall with all steel surfaces buffed and cleaned bright. This is another new to market Harper’s Ferry flintlock pistol that is previously unrecorded. This particular gun was made in the last year of production in 1808 and is so...more marked on the lock. Lock has been professionally reconverted to flintlock configuration. The small brass band at forestock tip appears replaced and the ramrod entry ferrule has a small loss at the opening. Steel ramrod probably a replacement. Markings on lock tail are visible, though only traces of eagle over "US" marking forward of cock can be seen. Barrel markings "US 1806" are discernible though worn as can be seen in photos. Both sides of stock have cracks stemming from front of lockplate and front of sideplate to tip of forend, some minor losses from splintering. Mechanically sound with smooth bore with some corrosion.Barrel Length: 10"Caliber/Bore: .54 SmoothboreFFL Status: AntiqueManufacturer: Harpers Ferry Model: 1805Paperwork : No Serial Number: 1806
