(C) Early Boss Under-Over Sidelock Ejector Single Trigger Game Gun with Case.

Lot # 78 (Sale Order: 77 of 545)

28" Demi-bloc barrels fitted with flat matted ventilated rib are engraved "Boss & Co 13 Dover Street, Piccadilly, London W." on left side. Rib has lunate extension. Barrel flats are stamped with London proofs for 2-1/2" chambers. Low profile, Boss patent over-under action features non-automatic safety, gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and Boss single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved in Boss house style with near full coverage exceptionally well cut varying sized, but small, shaded scroll surrounding rose bouquets in the manner of, and most likely executed by the noted, Jack Sumner. "Boss & Co" is on ribands on each lockplate. Action patent information is on each side. Ejector patent information is on bottom of forend iron, and trigger patent information is on trigger plate. Newly made straight grip buttstock is of nicely marbled and well figured European walnut. It measures 14-3/8" over checkered wood butt, and features drop points, point pattern checkering at grip, and a gold oval on toe line engraved "GJ". Matching newly stocked forend has Anson release. Gun is number two of a pair with "2" in gold on top lever and forend tip. Gun is housed in good quality tan leather case with stitched leather corners which is lined in burgundy cloth. A Boss paper label is in lid. Case contains cleaning equipment, Boss marked square oil bottle and two plastic snap caps. Good to fine, as refurbished. Barrels retain essentially all of a London quality re-black. Action cleaned to coin finish, engraving remains clear. New stocks retain essentially all of their original finish with some light marks. Workmanship is good but not of factory quality. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are out of time, ejectors will not remain cocked, so forend is difficult to remove and replace, especially when barrels are not attached to action. Trigger appears to work well. Relatively new case is excellent. Interior is very fine, with some rubs. Carbine length round barrel with fixed carbine front sight and folding military carbine rear sight. Bordered by an elongated scalloped rope border at all edges of the left and right sides of receiver. Chamber ring of receiver has ornate scrolls with smaller version of the rope border at front. Barrel is marked "30 U.S." over chamber and beneath rear of hand guard. This unbelievable carbine is fully documented by a letter from the Buffalo Bill Historical center as well as a very early letter from the Winchester parts department. (C) Stellar Winchester 1895 .30-06 Musket with Bayonet (1921).

Lot # 98 (Sale Order: 97 of 545)

Musket length round barrel with military blade type front sight and folding military rear sight graduated to 2000 yards. Commercial Winchester blue finish overall including band, buttplate hammer and lever. Receiver bridge marked .30-Gov't-06. Two piece oil finished straight grained American walnut stocks with hand guard. Forearm retained by central band and bayonet lug equipped forearm cap. Smooth musket pattern steel buttplate and stock equipped with sling swivels. Traditional Winchester markings on right side of receiver. Muskets represented the majority of the Winchester Model 1895 production. Most were made for the Russian government and chambered for the 7.62x54 Russian cartridge. Very few were ever produced in the US .30-06 caliber. This example is accompanied by the 8-1/2" bladed steel bayonet with two piece walnut handle and steel scabbard with leather frog. Blade is marked on the front of the guard "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO". This bayonet differs from the Russian contract bayonet by being shorter. Condition excellent and as new. The musket shows no actual use and is in a wonderful state of preservation. Several extremely small areas of wear are evident on high points of bands and very base of buttplate. A small amount of finish loss is evident at the muzzle and this is due to the attaching of the bayonet. The bore is as new being bright and shiny with sharp rifling. The mechanics are stiff from having not been used. This is certainly the finest example of the 1895 Winchester Musket we have seen and would be near impossible to improve upon. Musket length round barrel with military blade type front sight and folding military rear sight graduated to 2000 yards. Commercial Winchester blue finish overall includi...moreng band, buttplate hammer and lever.
