(C) Deluxe Winchester Model 1886 .45/70 Lever Action Takedown Lightweight Rifle (1907).

Lot # 334 (Sale Order: 329 of 545)

This deluxe lightweight takedown features a full round barrel, Lyman ivory bead front sight, folding two leaf folding rear sight, tang sight, blue finish, case colored lever and hammer, half magazine, takedown, and deluxe fiery grain triple-X walnut pistol grip checkered stocks with Winchester hard rubber buttplate. Barrel, tube, forend, and takedown band retain all of what appears to be a factory refinish. The lever and hammer retain the majority of the Winchester colors but thinning and spots. The high polish blue frame has browning and freckling at the base, and some browning and freckling on the top right frame. Wood is near mint and proud to metal with fine checkering. Due to the wear on the frame and the ageing, we think this is a period repair or work order from Winchester that would be nearly undetectable, except for the evidence of the washed out "P" on the frame. Fine bore and action. According to factory research, serial No. 145113 was shipped on January 7th, 1909 with a nickel steel barrel, oil finish, takedown, shotgun rubber butt, half magazine, Winchester high velocity, plain trigger, pistol grip checkered stock, 22" extra light round barrel in .45-70 caliber. It was returned for repair twice in 1910 on March 17th and December 15th, which could explain the factory type refinish on the frame.Barrel Length: 22"Caliber/Bore: .45-70FFL Status: Curio & RelicManufacturer: WinchesterModel: 1886Paperwork: No Serial Number: 145113 CORRECTION: It has come to our attention that the receiver has been professionally refinished at an earlier date.

Lot # 339 (Sale Order: 334 of 545)

It isn't often that the complete trunk of World War I possessions comes to market as complete as this, accompanied by his scarce U.S. Springfield Model 1911 service pistol. This collection comes directly from the grandson of Lt. David M. Morgan. Verified by two newspaper articles that are included in this lot. Morgan hailed from Wisconsin and was sent to Ft. Sheridan in 1917, and was awarded the rank of 2nd Lieutenant where he was sent to the 118th Infantry Battalion 30th Division, which was a Civil War southern unit. He was then sent to Europe in May of 1918 and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and the leader of the division. He was immediately involved in trench warfare and was gassed soon after his arrival. He participated in two major operations in Europe - the Somme Offensive in France as well as the Ypres-Lys in Belgium. He fought in the second battle of Somme in 1918. Morgan was also part of the United States Army Air Service. Of course, the main value to this lot is the Springfield Model 1911. It is the personal history and possessions that takes this gun to the next level. DM Morgan, Wisconsin", person dog tag inscribed with name and "1st Lieutenant, 308th Infantry", two capture German belt buckles, and ID'd red cross personal kit that includes a comb, thread, needles and the Gospel of John; field message book. (C) Completely Gold Plated & Engraved Smith & Wesson Pre-Model 27 .357 Double Action Revolver - Once

Lot # 340 (Sale Order: 335 of 545)

Manufactured 1950-51. The dossier of Alexander Sasha Siemel can be found on Wikipedia. He moved to the United States in 1907 then headed for Argentina two years later where he worked as a gunsmith and became famous for hunting jaguars with only a spear. Referred to as the "Tigrero" hunter and later became known as the "Tiger Man". From this time until the mid-1940's he became one of the most famous hunters in the world and became an actor in 1937 with Frank "Bring Him Back Alive" Buck in a "Jungle Menace" series, which was later turned into a feature film in 1946 titled "Jungle Terror". He wrote for various outdoor magazines including National Geographic. He penned his autobiography "Tigrero" in 1953. In 1963 the Sasha Siemel Museum opened in Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania which housed his collection of hunting trophies, art, curios, minerals, shells, coins, weapons and many other items. The museum closed in 1969 and he died in Pennsylvania in 1970 at the age of 80. The list of his magazine articles is listed, which include: "Argosy", "Colliers", "Field and Stream", "Life", "Outdoor Life", "Reader's Digest", "Time" and numerous others. This complete print-out will accompany this revolver as well as two letters pertaining to this gun, a 1961 "Boys Life" magazine with a story by Gene Henderson on Siemel, a pull-out article in Colliers 1947 by Siemel, and a copy of the auction catalog November 15th, 1993 where a large portion of the Siemel collection was sold. There is a signed photograph of Siemel with a jaguar, an article 1947 from the Philadelphia Enquirer about Siemal; all of this comes with the revolver. As to the firearm itself and its tie-in to Siemel we have the oak leaf carved oversized ivory grips with ID plaque on both panels "SAS" and engraved on the right side of the frame "SASHA SIEMEL". This revolver features almost complete 100% master engraving in oak leaf pattern. Both sides of the barrel have a roaring big cat at breech and a jaguar on left side of frame. Can find no sign of engraver's signature, but it has been masterfully done. Standard features include six shot, double action, red ramp front sight, target rear sight, case colored target hammer and case colored trigger. Gun does not appear to have been fired since custom work was done. The factory letter states that this gun was shipped on May 16th, 1950 to Sasha Siemel as an 8-3/8" blued finish with checkered walnut grips Pre-Model 27 serial No. S76977. This revolver was engraved "SASHA SIEMEL" and was an advertising account at no charge. It was a presentation from C.R. Hellstrom, Smith & Wesson's president. Mr. Siemel was an old friend to the Smith & Wesson company and the gold plating was done after this revolver was shipped. There is a copy of the original May 16th, 1950 work order as well. A stunning revolver with a storied history from one of the greatest African writers and hunters.

Blued barrel is stamped with sans serif "P" only at rear, barrel is a replacement as a correct barrel would have an "H" sans serifs. Accompanied by an extremely scarce so-called "key-hole" two tone magazine with five view holes, pinned base and lanyard. It is obvious this pistol saw very little use. Frame has some high edge wear, retains 95% of the original factory finish with some thinning on mainspring housing. Slide retains 97% original finish with high edge muzzle wear and some light wear through finish on right side of slide forward of ejector port. All stamps and edges are razor sharp. Grips are near mint. Fine bore and action.Barrel Length: 5"Caliber/Bore: .45 ACPFFL Status: Curio & RelicManufacturer: ColtModel: 1911 U.S. ArmyPaperwork: No Serial Number: 29619

(C) Colt Model 1911 U.S. Navy Semi-Automatic Pistol (1915).

Lot # 352 (Sale Order: 347 of 545)

Almost immediately after production began on the Colt Model 1911 .45 semi-automatic pistol, the Navy placed an order for 15,037 examples to be identical to the Army Model with the exception the slide be marked "MODEL OF 1911 US NAVY" on right side. The majority of which were shipped to the Brooklyn Naval Yard. The first shipment was sent on March 1st, 1912 and the last shipment was on March 15th, 1915. They were all in the serial number range 109501 to 110000, which would indicate 499 pistols were actually manufactured and delivered. The onset of the first World War made it impossible to fill the Navy order and they were forced to take alternate revolvers instead. This pistol is all original, untouched with all correct parts with the exception of an all blued replacement barrel that is simply stamped "P" on left lug. The rear sight is a Type II changed on September 15th, 1913 that has machined flat top with U notch and radius corners. All other features are correct for the time to include checkered wide spur hammer, checkered slide stop and safety, smooth flat mainspring housing with ring, diamond checkered walnut grips and a two tone tempered pinned base magazine with lanyard. In addition to the Navy stamp on right side of slide, patent dates are identically stamped on left side of slide to that of standard Army Model. Left side of frame is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". "GHS" can be found in a circle on left side for Gilbert Stewart (1915-18). The gun has overall blue homogenous appearance mixed with soft patina and the typical machining marks as found on all period service pistols. The front grip strap is grey patina. Frame still retains approximately 90% brighter blue with patina showing through. Slide itself is more a mixture of blue and soft patina blend. All finishes are similar with proper toning throughout. Legends are sharp as new. An extremely fine example of a scarce pre-World War I Navy contract pistol that only needs the proper barrel to be totally correct. This Colt's shipment to the Brooklyn Naval Yard on March 5th, 1915 in a shipment of 500 guns has been confirmed by the Colt archives. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection.Barrel Length: 5"Caliber/Bore: .45 ACPFFL Status: Curio & RelicManufacturer: ColtModel: 1911 NavyPaperwork: No Serial Number: 109819
