(C) OUTSTANDING AND RARE INLAND T3 SNIPER CARBINE WITH M2 INFRARED NIGHT VISION SCOPE.

Lot # 1275 (Sale Order: 143 of 519)

An initial research and development contract for 1700 T3 carbines specially fitted with the newly developed M1 infrared scopes was awarded in 1944. Rather than a standard rear sight, the "T3" marked receiver has an integral scope mount. These first contract Inland T3 carbines were intentionally and specifically designed as a platform for a total of what became only 715 M1 Sniperscopes ever produced. Only around 750-800 T3’s were likely produced as part of the initial contract. Most were immediately sent overseas mounted under their Sniperscopes with reportedly at least 554 used during the invasion of Okinawa. After the war nearly all of the receivers of the T3 carbines were cut in half making surviving examples extremely scarce. Uncut unwelded T3 receivers, such as this one, now being the rarest of all. This outstanding early T3 bearing serial number "0108" was manufactured in 1944 and like most first contract guns are fitted with a "3-44" dated Inland barrel. This mount sports an excellent 1945 contract early M2 Sniperscope with reproduction battery box. Although the data plate has been removed its features confirm its WWII vintage. Consignor states that this unit still functions; however, we have not tested it ourselves. The carbine is correctly fitted with a special made “IO” stock to mount the infrared lamp and pistol grip switch. “HI" 4 rivet Hand-guard. Inland trigger group with push button safety, "M" marked magazine catch, and blued flat bolt. Complete with an "IA" 15-round magazine, oiler, green woven sling, and "N-717" stamped green canvas carry case fitted for a T3 carbine with infrared scope. The carbine and scope are pictured on pages 1071-1073 of Larry Ruth's "War Baby III". CONDITION: Excellent for its age. Carbine retains nearly all of its parkerized finish with only light wear. Wood likewise has only minor handling marks. Very fine barrel. ME measures 1. Fine mechanics. Scope and lamp have some light finish scuff and other marks but also rate near excellent. An outstanding example of an exceedingly scarce and historic WWII small arm. PROVENANCE: Larry Ruth Collection Accessories: Scope. Battery Pack, Carry Case Barrel Length: 18" Caliber/Bore: .30 Carbine FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Inland Model: T3 Paperwork: COA Serial Number: 0108

(C) RARE EXPERIMENTAL WINCHESTER T3 SNIPER CARBINE WITH M73B1 SCOPE.

Lot # 1276 (Sale Order: 144 of 519)

After viewing lnland's production of the T3 Carbine in March 1945, Winchester began experimenting and slightly modified the design. Winchester began production in the summer, although only 1,108 were completed before war's end. According to factory research, the serial number was applied to this very rare example on August 10, 1945, the day after the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki and just 4 days before Japanese surrender. This especially unusual example, which reportedly came from the Aberdeen Proving Ground, is fitted with an unmarked barrel with an approximately 3 - 1/4" unrifled extension added to the muzzle with no provision for a front sight. A military EI Paso Weaver M73B1 scope with duplex reticle and rubber eye piece is mounted to the receiver base. Scope is serial numbered in electro pencil "29426". Mixed late pattern internals including round bolt and flip safety. Walnut low wood stock marked with a "W" in the sling well and crossed cannons cartouche on the right. 2-rivet hand guard retained by a type 1 flat band. Documented experimentation was done at Aberdeen with similar M73B1 scoped T3 carbines with unsatisfactory results, as the spent casings struck the scope as they ejected. This carbine is pictured on pages 1074-1076 of Larry Ruth's "War Baby III". CONDITION: Very good overall. Nearly all of the original parkerized finish is retained with only light wear. Stock and hand guard have some scattered dings and impressions. Very good, crisp and bright bore. Fine mechanics. Lightly clouded optics. Very few T3s survived post war rebuilds, making this experimental example extremely scarce and an excellent addition to any advanced collection. PROVENANCE: Larry Ruth Collection Barrel Length: 19 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: .30 Carbine FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Winchester Model: T3 Paperwork: Factory Research, COA Serial Number: 02706

(C) UNIQUE EXPERIMENTAL LONG BARREL INLAND T3 SNIPER CARBINE OF PRESENTATION QUALITY.

Lot # 1277 (Sale Order: 145 of 519)

This highly unusual carbine is fitted with a 24" barrel built for the WWII M1E6 tests. The receiver, although unmarked, is an extremely rare T3 with integral optic mount base that never made it to ordnance. Most all of the T3 receivers were cut in half once obsolete, making this an even rarer find. Rifle has a period EI Paso Weaver Model 298 scope. Flat bolt. Other parts consistent with other M1E6 barreled presentations, including a special checkered trigger, early serrated “W-I” magazine catch, and a checkered push button safety, combined with a mix of early and late Inland parts. Metal is finished in lustrous polished commercial blue. The "HI" low wood stock is finely figured and finished to a gloss. Gloss finished 4-rivet handguard retained by a "KI" type 2 band. Complete with C-tip sling. CONDITION: Excellent. Virtually all of the rich commercial blue is retained with only light evidence of the action being cycled. Wood is especially fine with a small area of wear from the sling buckle and other handling marks. Very fine bright and crisp bore. ME of 1. Fine mechanics. Very few T3 carbines survived post-War rebuilds, making them extremely scarce on the collector market, especially in nice condition. Presentation grade specimens are even scarcer. Larry Ruth identified this carbine as the only known example. PROVENANCE: Larry Ruth Collection Barrel Length: 24" Caliber/Bore: .30 Carbine FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Inland Model: T3 Paperwork: COA Serial Number: X44

(C) ONLY KNOWN WWII PROTOTYPE GREBEY SEMI AUTOMATIC PISTOL.

Lot # 1278 (Sale Order: 146 of 519)

Born in 1900, George Grebey moved to New Haven, Connecticut, and was occupied as a tool maker, possibly with some association with Winchester; however, by the beginning of World War II, he was employed as a machinist at the Naval Torpedo Station in Newport, Rhode Island. The butt of this unusual prototype is hand-stamped "DESIGNED-MADE BY / GEORGE F. GREBEY / SEPT. 1 1943" and was likely built seeking a government contract for paratrooper or other special use. Remaining in the white and in an overall incomplete state, this gas operated handgun is chambered in .30 carbine and designed to use M1 carbine magazines. It is provided with simple iron sights: a tall blade front and a U-notch rear. The grips are 2-piece plain walnut. The pistol is housed in a period felt lined fitted wood case with various spare parts or tools. Also included are several of Grebey's blueprints for a long arm version, a file of research, and correspondence compiled by Larry Ruth. It is pictured on pages 1629 and 1630 of Ruth's "War Baby III". CONDITION: Very good overall, remaining bright with some minor cleaned pinprick oxidation. Grips show evidence of handling. The bolt was absent when the prototype was acquired. Case has expected wear but displays very well. A rare opportunity for the discerning 20th-century arms collector to acquire a well-known, one-of-a-kind WWII prototype pistol. PROVENANCE: Larry Ruth Collection Accessories: Case, Parts Barrel Length: 6" Caliber/Bore: .30 Carbine FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Grebey Model: Automatic Pistol Paperwork: Research, Documentation, Blueprints Serial Number: NSN

(C) HISTORIC ABERDEEN .22 SCHV TEST IBM M1 CARBINE WITH AMMO AND ACCESSORIES.

Lot # 1279 (Sale Order: 147 of 519)

In April of 1952 approval was given to a team under Gerald Gustafson at the Aberdeen Proving Ground to develop a small caliber, high velocity (SCHV) cartridge based on a shortened .222 Remington. Testing continued from 1952 to 1953 with favorable results for the new .22 Carbine cartridge. Although the cartridge was not adopted, the .22 Carbine tests were very influential on Eugene Stoner during his development of the 5.56mm round utilized in the M16 rifle. This historically significant test carbine is one of only five made by Aberdeen. The barrel is marked "11 Aug 53 / A.P.G." and is threaded for a muzzle brake. In total 8 of the various experimental muzzle brakes are included with this lot. Carbine is fitted with a tall front sight blade and standard "H" marked adjustable aperture rear sight. IBM receiver with mixed rebuilt internals including round bolt and flip type safety. It feeds from modified 15-round magazines, 2 of which are included, each with some period white identifier paint added to the toe. M2 cut walnut stock and 4 rivet hand-guard retained by a bayonet lug band. A modified BAR bipod was also mounted for the tests. Importantly, this lot also includes 2 50-round boxes of the test ammunition labeled "CALIBER .22 CARBINE", one still sealed and the other containing 9 loose rounds. Includes photocopies of the Aberdeen reports and test results. The gun and ammunition are pictured on pages 1288 and 1289 of Larry Ruth's "War Baby III". CONDITION: Very good as arsenal rebuilt and modified. The vast majority of the arsenal finishes are retained with some moderate wear. Stocks likewise rate very good with handling marks. Very fine and bright bore with crisp rifling. Fine mechanics. A very important piece of 20th arms development history. PROVENANCE: Larry Ruth Collection Accessories: Ammo, Extra Mag, Spare Parts Barrel Length: 18" Caliber/Bore: .22 Carbine FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: IBM Model: M1 Carbine Paperwork: COA Serial Number: 3761609

Lot # 1280 (Sale Order: 148 of 519)

Manufactured circa 1943 with an unmarked experimental 22" barrel. Only 4 long barrel M1E6 presentations are known, all having similar very early features. Like many X prefix serial numbered M1 carbines this example was a presentation and has been finished in rich commercial blue. Fitted standard adjustable aperture rear sight. Flat bolt. Inland earliest narrow wall trigger housing absent hammer spring recess with Type 1 dogleg “H in shield hammer”, checkered type 1 safety, and serrated long face mag catch. The charging handle and trigger have been checkered. The "I0" marked walnut low-wood stock is of especially nice figure and has been artfully spliced to lengthen the forearm. Stock retains ink marking inside. Grip and forearm have also been checkered with tasteful folk art carving details throughout including a large "1945" date on the left side and a very well executed flying eagle carrying a shield on the right. A small brass plaque is inlaid on the right side of the forearm reading "R. M. LONGNECKER". Handguard has also been custom crafted from "HI" and "IO" marked handguards, the 4 rivet holes nicely plugged. (M) LOT OF DOCUMENTED GEORGE INGRAM PROTOTYPE MODEL A POLICE RIFLES AND PARTS.

Lot # 1281 (Sale Order: 149 of 519)

George Ingram, famed inventor of the M10 submachine gun, began devising a multi-caliber weapons system based on the M1 carbine platform, building as few as 2 prototypes in the mid-70s dubbed the Police Rifle. These designs were eventually refined into the Western rifle designed for Greek military use, although few were produced. This lot includes 2 .223 barreled actions built by lngram, one built into a complete Model A Police rifle with his parts and a new made stock. Additional spare parts from lngram, as well as a partially completed stock, are included, which could possibly be used to build the second prototype. The completed carbine features a blued barrel with gold bead blade front sight and peep rear fixed to a custom lengthened receiver and bolt. The 2-piece oiled walnut stock is mounted with a single barrel band and flat steel butt plate replicates lngram's plans exactly. It will accept AR-15 magazines, but absent a provision to lock the magazine in place. Included with the prototype components are numerous technical drawings, including some done in pencil by Ingram, and other documentation, research, and correspondence. The components and documents were acquired from lngram's estate by Kirk Kellogg, who passed them along to Larry Ruth around 2007. The completed prototype is pictured on page 1477 of Ruth's "War Baby III" and described on the following few pages. CONDITION: Very good. The completed carbine rates very good. Nearly all of the polished blue finish is retained on the barrel. Other components show some handling and age as assembled. Stock is excellent. Fine bore. Rifle appears to cycle correctly but should not be fired under any circumstances. Other accessories rate fair to excellent. A very interesting and well-documented prototype lot. PROVENANCE: Larry Ruth Collection Accessories: Case, Parts Barrel Length: (BOTH) 18" Caliber/Bore: (BOTH) .223 Remington Manufacturer: (BOTH) Ingram Model: (BOTH) A Paperwork: Blue Prints, Provenance, COA Serial Number: (BOTH) NSN
