(A) HIGH CONDITION ARSENAL REBUILT SHARPS NEW MODEL 1863 SINGLE SHOT BREECH-LOADING PERCUSSION CARBI

Lot # 2106 (Sale Order: 104 of 420)

Apparently, this is an arsenal rebuild and refinished gun but never converted for cartridges. The blue barrel has a New Model 1863 stamp but the serial number is far too early for this model. Has all the standard 1863 carbine features, but there are no military stamps to be found. The barrel has a faded Sharps Hartford legend. All features are that of a standard carbine to include post front sight, single barrel band, Lawrence 1859 stamped ladder rear sight, saddle ring and bar, and two Sharps patent legends on left side of frame and one on right. CONDITION: Excellent. Stocks are superb and you can still feel the raised grain. Retains nearly all the brilliant fire blue on the falling block and the lever pin release. All the screws retain nearly all the fire blue as well. Lock, hammer, and frame retains majority of case colors, at least 80%. The lever retains 50% strong color. Even the butt plate retains bright color at top and mottled color on balance. Bore is mirror bright. This high condition is seldom found on a percussion Sharps carbine. Barrel Length: 22" Caliber/Bore: .52 Rifled FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: Sharps Model: New Model 1863 Serial Number: C26747

(A) "CLEANED AND REPAIRED" US COLT 1860 ARMY PERCUSSION REVOLVER ASSOCIATED WITH THE BUFFALO SOLDIER

Lot # 2120 (Sale Order: 118 of 420)

According to Charles Pate, in his book on the Colt 1860 Army Revolver, pages 232-237, Colt had 900 serviceable 1860s that had been arsenal cleaned and repaired, most of which from the St. Louis or Leavenworth US facilities, ready to issue to the post Civil War military. He lists 118 known examples with the large US stamp on the trigger guard with no periods. These have long been associated with the 10th Cavalry, better known as the Buffalo Soldiers. This example does not have any F10 CAV markings but, like all known examples, it simply has the US stamp. There is no record of other regimental deliveries, leaving their destinations unknown. Most of these examples have some to all mismatched numbers. Eleven of the 118 revolvers are listed with four matching numbers, excepting the cylinder. This revolver has four matching with a cylinder whose number cannot be read and a mismatched wedge. The US font is identical to the four pictured on page 233. As were most of the Cleaned and Repaired guns, this gun has been refinished. Most of the refinished guns had the blued frame. The barrel and cylinder on this gun are refinished but the frame no longer shows any of this finish. Gun has one sub inspector C stamp on top of back strap. Like other known examples, this barrel has been shortened 1/8". The one piece walnut grips fit very well and have some added varnish. Also, like most examples, the roll die Naval cylinder scene is not visible. The original production dates to 1863. The top of barrel has a partially readable one line Colt legend which is common on these guns and the Colts Patent legend on left side of frame is only partially visible. CONDITION: Fine with notes to arsenal refinish retaining about 90% blue on barrel starting to blend patina, flashes on cylinder, grey patina frame. Action indexes correctly. Bore is well defined with light frosting. An extremely fine condition post Civil War issued Colt most likely used on the frontier. Barrel Length: 7 - 7/8" Caliber/Bore: .44 Rifled FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1860 Army Serial Number: 110791
