(A) Ultra Rare Colt Whitneyville Hartford Transitional Walker Model Dragoon Revolver.

Lot # 147 (Sale Order: 147 of 678)

One of the great rarities of the Colt collecting world, rarer than the Walker Model, it is stated that 240 examples were manufactured beginning with Serial No. 1100 and continued to serial No. 1340. All of these revolvers were manufactured in late 1847 at the new Hartford factory using up excess parts from the Walker in the process. Matching numbers on frame, barrel, trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder. Loading lever is numbered 966 and appears to be the only leftover part that does not match. Wedge is unnumbered. Barrel reads from breech to barrel address "SAMl COLT NEW-YORK CITY". Left side of frame is stamped "COLT'S PATENT U.S.". This is the more desirable of the two variations with the Walker-type grips that go into the frame. Has the large oval cut-outs and all original nipples. No trace of cylinder scene. Brass has never been cleaned. All legends are razor sharp. A few of the screw heads have light distortion. Indexes and locks up fine. Strong rifled bore. This rare Colt has been completely field stripped, examined and vetted by numerous experts and deemed to be one of the better existing examples of this extremely rare U.S. Martial revolver. It is considered by many to be the holy grail of Colt percussion revolvers. This revolver is examined in detail in the book of Colt firearms by R.L. Wilson on pages 82-84. 30 presentation models were given to the "who's who" of military elite, further reducing the number made for regular troops. Provenance Butterfield & Butterfield September 8th, 1999.Accessories : NoneBarrel Length: 7 - 1/2"Caliber/Bore: .44 PercussionManufacturer: ColtModel: WalkerPaperwork : No Serial Number: 1161 Condition: Dimensions:CORRECTION: It has been determined that the barrel address has been re-stamped at some point. (A) Colt 3rd Model Dragoon Percussion Revolver.

Lot # 148 (Sale Order: 148 of 678)

Manufactured 1855. All matching numbers with the exception of wedge not numbered. Frame is not U.S. marked. Barrel has New York address. This revolver has seen a lot of use; muzzle is rounded, barrel has areas of light pitting, cylinder scene is not visible, frame has had some wiped on finish, and loading lever is grey. Most of the screw heads show various degrees of distortion. The brass trigger guard has been replaced with a Second Model square back style, but is numbered to the gun and the font appears to be identical to the rest of the gun, so it may have been a factory leftover square back used on a Second Model. Trigger guard is inspector stamped "Z" on left rear and "A" on left front trigger bow, which would also indicate a Martially inspected gun. There are two plugged holes on the backstrap that would have been for mounting a shoulder stock, and the butt screw is extended which further indicated that this trigger guard and backstrap were leftover parts used to assemble this revolver. It is our opinion that this is all original as applied by factory, as it was a common practice to use leftover parts.Accessories : NoneBarrel Length: 7 - 1/2"Caliber/Bore: .44 PercussionFFL Status: AntiqueManufacturer: ColtModel: 3rd Model DragoonPaperwork : No Serial Number: 15318 Condition: Dimensions:

Left side of barrel is stamped "JH" inspector (Joseph Hanis recorded as inspector for Colt Third Model Dragoon in the book "U.S. Military Arms Inspector Marks" by Daum & Pate page 94). Left side of the frame is stamped "COLT'S PATENT U.S.". Cylinder has the roll-engraved Model USMR with cavalry scene. Features round brass trigger guard and brass backstrap. (A) Colt Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver with Matching Numbered Stock.

Lot # 150 (Sale Order: 150 of 678)

Manufactured 1861. This revolver sports a London address barrel with a number "2" on the left lower lug, but bears no British marks of any kind, which leads us to believe that this was a leftover barrel that was assembled on this gun. All numbers are matching including wedge, cylinder and shoulder stock. Features octagon barrel with London address, dove tail front sight, six shot, single action; case colored frame, hammer and lever; iron backstrap, and silver plated trigger guard. Barrel has the high polish presentation quality London blue. The "2" would usually indicate that is was part of or was intended to be a two gun set. Loading lever has patterned out. The Naval cylinder scene only shows at about 75% with no finish forward of the locking notches and 80% blue to the rear of the notches. Cut for a shoulder stock. Retains 40% case colors on left side and 70% on right side. Trigger guard retains most of the plating, as does backstrap. Grips are excellent and proud to metal. Strong, clean bore. Indexes and locks up like new. The rare matching shoulder stock is original Colt with matching number on buttplate and lower tang. Retains most of the plating. Has a sling swivel. Wood is excellent with usual dings, but still proud to metal. An extremely fine, matching 1851 Navy with stock as assembled by Colt. This revolver was in the Texas Ranger Museum when it opened in 1968 until it was sold to Mr. Dick Nelsen in 1982. The letter is on Fort Fisher letterhead and signed by the curator who states this revolver was from the famous Ferguson collection.
