(C) OUTSTANDING CONDITION INCREDIBLY RARE AND HISTORIC MARCH 1962 HECKLER AND KOCH G3 MK SEMI-AUTO R

Lot # 127 (Sale Order: 126 of 399)

Incredibly rare "ghost" of the collectible H & K rifles in America. This is a nearly identical rifle to the one offered in our March 14-15, 2016 auction. These were the very first of the G3 rifles imported into America in March of 1962 for the Santa Fe Division of the Golden State Arms Corporation. This fantastic specimen is one of reportedly only around 20 examples imported in the very first shipment into the United States and uniquely distinguishable from later July and November offerings of the same year. Marked "G3 MK 2088" and "HK 3/62" on left side of magazine housing with corresponding matching numbered lower and buttstock housing, SN "088 on the lower housing and the backplate of the buttstock match the receiver. Consignor has included in addition to the extremely and attractive wooden hand guard the extremely desirable metal handguard w/fold-out bipod legs. This is an extremely rare orig accessory. Also included is an original Shooting Times magazine dated November 1963 which contains an article by Capt. George C. Nonte Jr. on the H & K G-3. Also a copy of the orig 1963 Santa Fe Golden State Arms Corp promotional sales listing as well as a copy of the Golden State Arms Corp. G-3 instruction manual with a photo copy of the orig accessory sheets showing what was available and the prices. These guns were the purposely made semi-automatic "brothers" to the military select fire versions being fielded at the time. Although at first glance safety appears to have three positions, a raised dimple prevents it being moved beyond the 2nd position. Receiver is attractively marked, "MADE IN GERMANY FOR (LOGO) SANTA FE DIVISION GOLDEN STATE ARMS CORPORATION CALIFORNIA – U.S.A. CAL. 7.62 MM NATO". Top of bolt marked, "HK 3/62" and proofed "U". The bolt carrier marked "HK 4/62". Beautiful wooden buttstock and 2 forends, 1 wooden and the other metal w/bipod. Pistol grip is a hard black composite and so is butt plate. Bird cage flash hider at muzzle. This specimen includes one orig 20-rnd magazine marked, "G3 HK 4/62". This early model of the G3 was manufactured on Mauser tooling and is the pathfinder of the modern "modular" weapons concept, where a basic receiver design could be transformed into a specialized application for different kinds of uses, such as straightforward plain battle rifle, or folding stock for paratroop, or armor. Scopes and bipods, were easily fitted to this design in a successful attempt to meet the varying needs of the modern assault rifle. This design provided the framework for the MP5 and nearly all firearm platforms manufactured by Heckler and Koch for more than 3 decades. Included with this lot is an orig November 1963 "Shooting Times" with article by Capt. George C. Nonte Jr. on one of these early guns. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine orig smooth lustrous gray-blue finish on all metal parts. There is some slight loss of finish to bare metal where the charging handle meets the high edges of the charging handle slot and also where the selector moves against the receiver. There is also a couple of other errant blemishes and along the high edges of the magazine well. Magazine has a couple of brown spots, but none of this in any way detracts from the outstanding condition. The wood of forend and stock is exceedingly attractive, w/only the lightest of handling marks. It is interesting to note the early weld/manufacturing techniques used on this rifle. Internal parts and bore of this rifle are near pristine. Bolt face is particularly attractive, as is the grain of the wooden forend and buttstock. Bore is excellent, shiny, and bright. Shooting Times magazine in very fine orig complete condition. Although this rifle has obviously been shot, it must have been very little, and even then immediately cared for. Many of us are used to the later H & K guns and it is an extremely rare and welcome treat to see such an early specimen, particularly in such clean and attractive condition. Specimens such as these almost never surface on the collector market, and it is difficult to imagine a finer specimen. The fact that it is Curio & Relic eligible in addition to its scarcity make this a top prize for the modern rifle enthusiast. Accessories: Wood forward gaurd Barrel Length: 19 - 1/4 Caliber/Bore: .308 Winchester FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: H&K Model: G3 3/62 Paperwork: Yes Serial Number: 2088

(C) 1908 Mondragon, Modified, Finned Barrel

Lot # 128 (Sale Order: 127 of 399)

The Model 1908 Mondragon is a classic military firearm, the first semi-automatic rifle ever adopted by a major military. Designed in Mexico the rifle was built by Sig in Switzerland with most examples chambered in 7mm. In addition to Mexico the rifle was also used years later by the WWI German Observation Troops. Unlike most rifles, this mid-production example, previously written up as an experimental rifle, has been fitted with a larger than usual diameter barrel, tapering toward the front, that was machined with 17 - 1/2" of cooling fins. The last 5" of the barrel are round to which has been fitted and a more modern ramped front sight. Rear sight and handguard are absent. The gas port is solid without a cutoff. The bolt, missing the extractor, is fastened permanently to the operating rod that has been recontoured. Forward of the trigger guard is the usual safety. Magazine housing has been modified to include a spring loaded release, now secured with a cotter pin, to retain a recently made snail drum magazine, whose lips are distressed, closely modeled after the original and missing part of the foldable crank. The rust blued receiver, without crest, is numbered 1171 on the left side with the serial number repeated on the top of the bolt. The barrel, bolt, operating rod, and receiver cap are polished and in the white. Original walnut stock, missing barrel bands and associated spring, still with swivel at toe and accepted metal buttplate. CONDITION: Receiver with 90% of refurbished blue. Parts in the white near excellent with staining and scattered flecks of oxidation. Stock is very good with numerous dings and areas of discoloration. Repainted, reproduction snail drum magazine with most of its black paint. Action is sluggish with bolt needing some assistance to fully close. Manual safety functions properly. Bright bore with strong rifling. Magazine should be considered as a cosmetic but nonfunctional accessory. NOTE: It should be noted that while researching this rifle we came across another Mondragon that shared an identical serial number. Barrel Length: 23" Caliber/Bore: 7mm FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft Model: Prototype Serial Number: 1171

Case is lined in green cloth and has large paper H&H label in lid. A 1929 dated charge card is also in lid (factory records indicate rifle was re-regulated in 1931). Action retains 20% original faded case color, balance a pleasing silver. New stock retains most of its original oil finish which is quite dry and could use another coat of oil. Original stock retains nearly all of an old oil refinish over a number of light marks, checkering re-cut. Original forend wood matches original buttstock well. Bores are excellent with strong rifling throughout, some very light frosting is at breech ends. Action is tight (closes with correct "thunk"). Barrels are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Trap cover on grip cap has retaining spring either missing or broken. Case leather is still relatively light in color with dark spots, and many scuffs and rubs. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is very good to fine with some rubs. Original label is foxed and lightly soiled. Charge card is also soiled and cracked. Accessories are good. Rifle with new stock will not fit in case. (This can be remedied with removal of one spacing block.) This is a perfect rifle for your next safari. The previous owner obviously had this rifle set up for his use with efficient fast handling optical sight and new stock. Drop at heel: approximately 2-7/8". Drop at comb: approximately 1-3/4". LOP: 15" Cast on approximately 1/2". Weight: 11 lbs 2 oz. CONDITION: Fine, as partially refurbished. Barrels retain nearly all of a London quality re-black with some subsequent wear on sides of breech and behind rear sight from hand wear while carrying over one shoulder. (M) Backdoor Holland & Holland .600 Nitro Sidelock Ejector Double Rifle Finished by N. Makinson & So

Lot # 137 (Sale Order: 136 of 399)

This big bore nitro rifle is strongly rumored "in the trade", to have been in production at Holland & Holland when they built the "Last" .600 nitro rifle for a client in 1975. No longer of any use to Holland's, it supposedly left as an unnumbered barreled action in the white. It was later proofed in London and finished by N. J. Makinson & Son of Howell, Michigan, for an American client. It was engraved by Adone T. Pozzobon of Toronto. The 26" chopper lump barrels are fitted with H&H style quarter rib holding large one standing leaf express rear sight and matching front ramp with large gold bead. A sling eye is soldered to bottom rib. Barrel regulating wedges and blocks are of late Holland style. Tops of barrels are engraved "N. J. Makinson & Son Howell, Michigan" and ".600 Nitro Express 900 Grains". Barrel flats are stamped with 1991 London nitro proofs at 2860 bar. Serial number is stamped on loop. Robust coin finished sidelock action is fitted with "best" pinless back spring H&H type locks by York & Wallin. Action also features long top strap which extends over comb in classic H&H style, automatic safety (SAFE engraved on gold rectangle), hidden third fastener, disc set strikers, H&H style reinforce to sides of action, and double triggers (front articulated). Double beaded trigger guard tang extends to steel grip cap with trap. All metal parts are engraved with near full coverage truly exceptional semi-relief large open acanthus scroll with floral highlights in dark shaded background. This beautiful work extends to triangles on barrels, along top of quarter rib, and on transitions to mid rib, as well as front sight base. This scroll surrounds intricately detailed Bulino scenes of bull elephant on lockplates and on bottom of action. A pair of big tuskers in mountainous background are on right lock, one is "in your face", head high, trunk partially curled up. Bottom of action portrays a single large bull in scrub woodland. Another pair are in open savanna on left lockplate. The quality and artistry in these scenes is extremely fine, and almost photographic. The scene on left lockplate is truly extraordinary rivaling or exceeding the best work of any engraver in the world today. The bull in the foreground looks alive and you can almost see the blood coursing through the veins in his ears. Engravers signature, "T. Pozzobon" is on trigger plate. (Adone Pozzobon trained in Italy and proprietor of the Adone Galleries of Toronto.) Top of action is engraved "N. A. MAKINSON & SON" on riband around top lever pivot. Serial number is in gold on trigger guard tang. Intricately marbled and finely stump figured dark European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 - 7/8" over red Decelerator pad. Stock also features classic drop points, along with H&H type point pattern checkering at grip, and right hand shadow line cheekpiece. A vacant gold oval is on toe line. A mercury recoil reducer has been installed, improving balance. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Weight: 14 lbs 11 oz. Rifle is housed in best English brown oak and leather case with brass corners in brown canvas leather trimmed outer cover. Interior is lined in light burgundy cloth and has Holland & Holland gold embossed black leather label in lid. Rifle fits partitions quite snugly. Case contains 2 piece cocobolo and brass cleaning rod, bone striker bottle, one sling loop, H&H marked square oil bottle, and .577 snap caps. Also included are five .600 nitro express cartridges in Wenger brass loaded with 900 grain soft nosed bullets in old Kynoch red and yellow box. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining all of its fine finishes on wood and metal surfaces with some handling and assembly marks. Case is excellent, locking loops of latch have broken off. This rifle is noted and partially photographed in THE 600 NITRO EXPRESS by Cal Pappas on page 179, and is included in his database of known .600's with an estimated total of approximately 200 ever produced by all makers including all action types. This wonderful big bore balances and handles quite well. (M) Innovative Szecsei & Fuchs Bolt Action Dangerous Game Double Rifle with Spare Magazine and Scope

Lot # 138 (Sale Order: 137 of 399)

Hungarian hunter, Joseph Szecsei, was charged by three elephants simultaneously. He survived. As a result of this encounter he decided that the two shots offered by the typical double rifle were not enough, and that the added capacity of a normal bolt action rifle was hampered by the time it took for each successive shot. So ... he designed this rifle, a bolt action double, giving two almost instantaneous shots with another two ready with one bolt operation and no need to take your eyes off the game. With a pair "up the spout" a full magazine gives a total of 8 shots. These rifles are built in Austria, and exhibit exquisite quality. Double barrels are 23 - 1/2" long and are fitted with quarter rib holding one standing, two folding leaf express rear sights. Gold bead is in matching front ramp. Caliber (.416 Remington Magnum) is engraved on mid rib. In order to save weight receiver is of titanium and is intricately machined to accept double box magazine, and has integral scope mount. Intricate engine turned double bolt mechanism has six locking lugs at rear, with pear shaped bolt knob and forward/ reverse safety on right side. Bolt release is a push button on bottom tang in front of trigger guard. Rifle is fitted with double triggers and trigger guard tang extends to steel grip cap in classic fashion. Nicely marbled and stump figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 - 3/4" over brown open sided Uncle Mike's pad. To accommodate this wide action, stock styling is a bit unusual, however stock sports a classic right hand cheekpiece, well cut borderless checkering with fleur-di-lis intrusions at grip and forend. Forend tip is of crotch figured walnut. A sling eye on toe line matches that on bottoms of barrels. Rifle is mounted with Swarovski Habicht 1.5 - 4 30mm scope with three post and central crosshair reticle, in specially designed 1 piece QD ring set. Double stack magazines have latches on both sides to insure against inadvertent loss. Weight without scope, with magazine: 13 lbs 5 oz. CONDITION: Excellent with evidence of light field use, perhaps one safari. Metal retains approximately 95%+ original blue, with some light scratches and silvering of sharp edges. Stock has a number of minor marks and dents in its original finish, checkering lightly worn. There is evidence of light recoil compression on left side of stock behind recoil bolt. Bores are excellent. Action is very smooth. Scope is excellent with some marks on exterior, optically clear. You'd be the only one on the block with one of these. This rifle handles surprisingly well, and the concept does have considerable merit for dangerous game.
