SHAKESPEARE FINE FISHING TACKLE EMBOSSED SIGN

Lot # 1076 (Sale Order: 76 of 622)

10 - 1/2" x 8 - 1/2". Dating to just after WWII, this store counter advertising piece is made of a composite material and pressed to show a nice degree of textured detail. The fish even has a German amber glass eye mounted in its socket, and a spot in its mouth where the dealer would presumably mount one of Shakespeare’s fine baits of the era. Very Good Plus or better condition and would make an outstanding display in a sporting-themed room.

LARGE PFLUEGER LUMINOUS CRYSTAL MINNOW

Lot # 1078 (Sale Order: 78 of 622)

Measuring 2 - 1/8" long and introduced in 1881, this rare bait was the only glass lure marketed by E. F. Pflueger. This bait has been found in multiple configurations, and notably, this one has no forward prop or fly and is rigged with a feather-dressed rear double hook. Additionally, the line tie is fitted with what looks like a turn-of-the-century, fisherman-added, Allcock’s style removable single hook. Condition is Excellent-, give or take, with traces of the red detail originally applied to the eyes and dorsal fin. An excellent representative example of a much-desired early American bait.

PFLUEGER FIVE-HOOK TRORY MINNOW WITH MAROON BOX

Lot # 1080 (Sale Order: 80 of 622)

4" Length. Incredibly rare by any measure, this example with the stockier body and thicker tail dates to about 1903 - 1904. Later versions of this five-hook model were a bit slimmer and the Trory was discontinued about 1906. This 4” lure debuted a little over a year after E.F. Pflueger passed away and Charles T. Pflueger took the reins of the company. The arrival of this new style Trory Minnow happened concurrently with the phase-out of the old three-hook model. The 1903 version still retains the squared Trory style props, but now features twisted wire hangers as opposed to the earlier through-body wrapped wire hook assembly. The condition of the minnow is at least Good Plus, possibly slightly higher. The yellow glass eyes are both solid. The accompanying box is completely unmarked and in Good or better condition, with a small tear on one side panel. About half a dozen examples are known in collections, despite them being produced for about five years.

Lot # 1082 (Sale Order: 82 of 622)

2 - 3/4" Length. Pflueger lures in special colors are far rarer than many other major makers of the time and this Excellent Minus bait should be considered a real prize.

PFLUEGER MARVELUS WOODEN MINNOW IN PERCH IN BOX

Lot # 1085 (Sale Order: 85 of 622)

3" Length. Marked “Yellow Perch” on one end flap, these over-labeled blue border boxes would have been used to supply to one of Pflueger’s retailers with their Trade Minnows. This particular box appears to be transitional and likely dates to the early 1920s, which coincides perfectly with the minnow it houses. The minnow is also transitional, still retaining the Neverfail hangers, but now having floppy instead of tube props. The minnow itself is absolutely mint, ant it would be impossible to ever upgrade it.

5” length. Made by The Charmer Minnow Co., Springfield, Missouri around 1910.
