High Standard Olympic .22 Short Competition Pistol

Lot # 16 (Sale Order: 16 of 743)

For your consideration is a High Standard Olympic.22 short caliber competition pistol. High Standards' first effort at making a pistol worthy of Olympic competition came ...morein 1949 as part of their G series pistol line. The Model G-O (sometimes referred to as the first Olympic), chambered in the low recoiling .22 Short, had an aluminum alloy slide, which was the first significant use of the material in a pistol. It also came standard with target grips and could be purchased with a 4 1/2” or 6 3/4” barrels, or both if the shooter so desired. The most unique feature of the G-O was its curved magazine, which was hand fitted to each gun, and for this reason it was often marked with a matching serial number. The design of these pistols required substantial amounts of machine work to create their intricate parts. This led to the cost of production being high and requiring far too much effort to manufacture. After a short two-year period, the G series was abandoned. This pistol shows a bull 6 ¾” barrel marked on the left “High Standard Mfg. Corp. – New Haven, Conn. U.S.A.” The barrel also shows a fixed muzzle weight. The firearm is fit with brown plastic checkered grips in good condition, showing the original factory carving and checkering for target shooting. This pistol was one manufactured between 1951 and 1953. Serial Number: 358233. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.

Colt Medium Frame Lightning .32 Slide Action Rifle

Lot # 17 (Sale Order: 17 of 743)

For your consideration is a Colt medium frame Lightning .32-20 WCF slide action rifle. The rifle features a fully octagon 26” barrel with blue factory finish and has fixe...mored sights and is marked, "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CONN. U.S.A. / PATENTED MAY 29. SEPT. 18. 83. MAY 26. 85. JUNE 15. 86. FEB. 22. 87." along with "32 Cal". This rifle was manufactured in 1895. The rifle receiver shows a mellow patina'd, blue factory finish with even honest surfaces married to a factory walnut hardwood stock and broken fore-grip. This was Colt’s response to Winchester making repeating lever action rifles in the same caliber as those offered in the famed Colt Single Action Army Revolver. Many frontiersmen preferred to carry their big Colt Revolvers chambered for the same caliber as their repeating rifle—this was Colt’s answer. This is the medium frame Colt Lightning example. The rifle appears to be in functioning, overall good to fair condition for its early collectible age. This is truly a rare firearm. Curio and Relic, FFL Transfer or NICS Background check required. Serial Number: 77316. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.

Navajo Crystal Eye Dazzler Trading Post Rug c.1960

Lot # 23 (Sale Order: 23 of 743)

Included in this lot is a Navajo Native American, Crystal Eye Dazzler Trading Post rug, circa 1960. Originally, the Old Crystal trading post was established in 1894 in a ...moreremote part of the Navajo Reservation, southwest of Two Grey Hills and northwest of Gallup. In 1896, J.B. Moore purchased an interest in the trading post and re-named it Crystal after a pure sparkling mountain spring that was in the area. Due to the remoteness of the trading post, he started using a mail order catalog to sell his rugs to the Eastern market. The first catalog came out in 1903 and another that came out in 1911. He left the reservation in 1911. During his stay at Crystal, he greatly influenced the change in styles of Navajo rugs being produced at the Crystal Trading Post. This stunning rug displays great color and wonderful condition, showing a triangular symmetry to the overall scheme of the Eye Dazzler rug. The rug shows all 100% wool and fine, tightly woven construction with an exquisite whimsical pattern and bright, rich pigment natural colors of dark brown, light brown, yellow, red, tan, and pink. This rug is in good condition, showing some wear to the edges but no holes. The rug measures 81 1/2" by 60".

Blackfoot Buffalo Horn & Hide Beaded Headdress

Lot # 25 (Sale Order: 25 of 743)

The lot features a unique Buffalo Bison horn headdress attributed to the Blackfoot Native American Indians of the turn of the Century. This circa 1880-1920 headdress show...mores a Buffalo Bison hide cap with two polished horns attached with old hide lacing. The piece has old trade cloth lining on the inside, old trade beads, strips of calico trade cloth with nice coloring, beaded side rosette medallions, a beaded brow band, and the original braided trade cloth tie strap still attached. The hide has some very minor hair loss and a few spots, as would be expected, and the beadwork shows little to no bead loss, as well. The beadwork shows a nice, early Blackfoot typical design with floral rosette and stepped geometric brow band, all on a white background. There is a row of hawk bells tied onto the front rim with old hide lacing, showing a nice patina. This is a unique and rare smaller example, likely worn by a young warrior, which shows some expected wear from its early use and age. The piece comes with a custom display stand, which makes this a truly fine addition to any artifact room. From the tip of the horn to the bottom of the cloth trailer, the piece measures 38 inches in length. Please examine the piece for your own representation of condition, age, and origin.
