World War II Nazi Walther P38 9mm Pistol

Lot # 30 (Sale Order: 36 of 503)

For your consideration is a World War II Nazi German Army P38 9mm double action pistol. This was the rugged semi-auto sidearm that replaced the more fragile Luger pistol. The P38 became the mainstay handgun issued to German troops in the 2nd World War. Unlike its predecessor, the P38 could be fired after the first round had been chambered and the hammer was in the down/safe position by simply pulling the trigger which cocked the hammer and fired the round simultaneously, hence the term double action. The P38 was known for incredible durability and the ability to function under the harshest of battlefield conditions. This was especially apparent on the Russian front during the worst muddy or freezing conditions. It was also a very popular bring-back war souvenir by our returning victorious GIs. Those examples, are lacking “import stampings” are almost certainly war bring-backs. This example with the code ac was made by the Walther factory. The serial number 6036 with letter suffix “g” indicates this handgun was manufactured in 1944. The pistol is in remarkable condition retaining nearly all the blue finish with crisp Nazi acceptance marks and proof marks on the right side of the slide and correspondingly correct “P38” markings on the left side of the slide. The action is tight and fully functional and the bore is mint with bright with sharp rifling throughout. Correct grips and magazine intact. Serial Number: 6036g. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.

Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant Leather 1st Edition

Lot # 34 (Sale Order: 40 of 503)

For your consideration is this two volume set of the 1885 first edition "Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant" Each volume shows plain leather covers with bold gold stamped lettering along the spine. Of all the memoirs written by former U.S. presidents, those of U.S. Grant are often considered to be the best: being well written and the most readable; full of interesting detail and insight. For example, there is a fascinating fold-out of the terms of surrender given to Robert E. Lee. Volume I shows an excellent etching of Grant as a young soldier with Volume II having a portrait of the more known image of President U.S. Grant. These memoirs were written from the fall of 1884 and completed four days before his death July 23, 1885. The set was published by Grant’s friend, Samuel Clemmons (Mark Twain) under the alias of his nephew, Charles L. Webster. The volumes are in good, complete condition. Though complete with crisp pages and clean, unmarked interiors, the boards are loose. These are a must own for any Civil War or United States history enthusiast. Together these measures 6 1/2" wide by 9 3/8" tall and each is 2" thick.
