Rare 1894 1st Ed. The Daughter of the Nez Perces

Offered in this lot is a rare first edition of "The Daughter of the Nez Perces" by Arthur Paterson. This first edition book in this good of condition is difficult to find. The book tells the story of a daughter of a Nez Perce chief and an English mother. The woman is a teacher in an American ladies' college, when her father comes for her. Arthur Paterson (1862-1928) wrote over a dozen books. This book has a dark green cloth cover with black embossing decorations with the title in gold on the cover and spine. The cover board and first few pages are loose from the spine but overall the book is in goof condition with light foxing to the paper. The book measures 7 1/2" x 5 1/4".

The oil painting features a beautifully and professio...morenally crafted oil painting of Native men involved in a Blood Ceremony which is also the title of the piece in a teepee or tipi sharing herbs and dressed in ceremonial garments and headdress's. The artist signature is shown in ht bottom left hand corner. Montana native Ed Totten is a internationally known artist who lives in Ennis, Montana. His breadth of work spans many decades and different media. His many talents include oil painting, intricate wildlife wood carving, as well as relief and totem carving. He is also gaining recognition for his unique art form that combines an oil painting with an original wood carving in a single work of art. Ed's Skill is recognized by the National Wildlife Federation. His portfolio also includes many Native American portraits and scenes that celebrate the rich Native American heritage. The condition of this of this original painting is good with some wear to the top of the the frame but otherwise in good overall well preserved condition. The measurements of this original painting are 45 1/2" x 65 1/4" and the visible artwork measures 29 1/4" x 49 1/4". This is an original piece of Montana art history.

Gorman born in 1932 and died in 2005 and circa 1978 with original first edition signed book, documentation and photograph of R.C. Gorman signing the pieces. The framed lithograph features a woman sitting with a blanket around her and shows the artist signature in the bottom left hand corner along with the date of the artwork and shows a blind stamp close tot he signature. The artist insisted the work be framed in Walnut, as such the owner had the piece professionally framed in as such (note about framing included) The frame shows minor wear to the top left corner of the frame. The artwork comes complete with a first edition hand signed book of R.C. Gorman's artwork and shows the particular painting present on page 155. Along with purchase receipt and gallery info along with a photograph of the artist signing the pieces. The condition of this lithograph is good with no obvious signs of damage and in good overall condition. The measurements of this framed lithograph are 32" x 38 1/2" and the visible art measures 21 1/4" x 28". The buckle features a wonderfully and professionally crafted 12k gold filled and sterling silver construction with a beautiful figure of an eagle constructed out of brown agate and mother of pearl with a huge disk shaped mother of pearl background. The buckle features a floral decoration of 12k gold filled decoration and a total of six Kingman turquoise cabochon set into the sides of the buckle with wonderful luster and a bright blue coloration with mineral deposit spiderwebbing. The artist hallmark can be seen on the backside of the buckle with '1/20 12k GF' inscribed above the hallmark and a 'sterling' stamp underneath the hallmark and is signed by the artist of the eagle. The condition of this buckle is good with a slight scrap to the bottom portion of the Mother of Pearl but otherwise the buckle is in good overall condition. "Classic First Generation, Pre-World War II Colt Single Action Army Revolver, .45 Colt caliber, desirable 5½” barrel, serial number 345611, made in 1923. A superb conditi...moreon example that correctly shows matching serial numbers on the frame, (and under the grips) trigger guard and back strap. It is correctly marked on the barrel top “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.” and has the correct “45 COLT” caliber marking on the left side of the barrel plus the patent dates of 1871, 1872 and 1875 on the left side of the frame. Custer's Last Fight / A Thos. Ince Special Production" and, in small black letters at the bottom center, "Central Show Print / Mason City Iowa". Thomas Harper Ince (November 16, 1880 – November 19, 1924) was an American silent film producer, director, screenwriter, and actor. Ince was known as the "Father of the Western" and was responsible for making over 800 films. He revolutionized the motion picture industry by creating the first major Hollywood studio facility and invented movie production by introducing the "assembly line" system of film making. He was the first mogul to build his own film studio, dubbed "Inceville", in Palisades Highlands. Ince was also instrumental in developing the role of the producer in motion pictures. His “Custer's Last Fight” (1912) production was one of his most successful and one of his first. The yellow poster shows a few tears, as shown in the photographs. "For your consideration in this lot is New Old Stock of the four Fifth Edition of The American Wildlife Series of knives by Camillus. Arguably one of the most important a...morend historically significant industries in the Village of Camillus, New York was the Camillus Cutlery Factory. Camillus Cutlery manufactured knives locally for more than 100 years. This fifth edition collection of four knives consists of a 440A high-carbon stainless steel blade (rockwell hardness of 57-58). The knife has a Derlin handle, brass bolster and a recessed thumb-lock that secures the blade in an open position. The knife measures 4 3/4"" when closed Inset into each handle is sculptured 14kt gold plated wildlife image by renown engraver Sid Bell. The fifth edition has Deer Head (white tail), Running Buck Deer (white tail), Charging Bear (black bear), and Howling Coyote. These knives are all New Old Stock and in the original box and sleeves.

This is an original Montana Territory Knives of Bozeman, Montana knife with an excellent, Yellowstone National Park inspired, Grizzly Bear scrimshaw artwork. This knife i...mores truly a work of “Montana” art, as it shows the iconic Grizzly scrimshaw set on wild bone grips and a forged, “rustic” Damascus, a tribute to the wilderness of our state and scrimshaw artwork of Native American Indian heritage. The blade has been forged from 1095HC (High Carbon) steel and 15N20 Nickel Carbon, which is then heated and folded into 396 layers, creating the astounding “Damascus” steel. The knife shows a wonderful ladder Damascus. The hollow grind full tang blade has been paired with a set of nice white wild animal bone grip scales, which are secured to the piece using two mosaic pins and a lanyard loop. The tang of the knife has been artfully hand vine filled. The grips have also been artfully scrimshaw etched with an image of a Grizzly bear. The knife is in brand new condition. The blade is stamped with the outline of the state of Montana "MT" with "Bozeman MT" underneath. The knife has been paired with a genuine leather, hand crafted, tooled sheath and is stamped "MT Bozeman MT" with the outline of Montana. The knife measures 9" long with the blade being 4 1/2" long.

The knife shows a wonderful, fire Damascus pattern. The hollow grind full tang blade has been paired with a set of Rams Horn premium grip scales, which are secured to the piece with four brass pins, a mosaic pin, and a lanyard loop. The tang spine has been artfully hand vine filled. The blade is marked with the “MONTANA TERRITORY KNIVES BOZEMAN MONTANA” stamping, which shows the outline of Montana. The knife has been paired with a leather, hand crafted sheath. The knife measures 10" long with the blade being 5 1/4" long.

M.T. Knives Buffalo Bill Signature Damascus Knife

This is an original Montana Territory Knives of Bozeman, Montana drop point knife with an excellent scrimshaw Buffalo Bill signature. The blade has been forged from 1095H...moreC (High Carbon) steel and 15N20 Nickel Carbon, which is then heated and folded into 396 layers, creating the astounding “Damascus” steel. The knife shows a wonderful ladder Damascus pattern. The hollow grind full tang blade has been paired with a set of nice white, wild animal bone grip scales, which are secured to the piece using two mosaic pins and a lanyard loop. The tang has been artfully hand vine filled. The grips have also artfully been scrimshaw etched with the signature of W. F. Cody “Buffalo Bill”. William Frederick “Buffalo Bill” Cody was an American Scout, buffalo hunter, and showman of the Buffalo Bill Wild West show. The knife is in brand new condition and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, along with a Lifetime warranty. The blade is stamped with the outline of the state of Montana "MT" in the outline with "Bozeman MT" underneath. The knife comes with a tooled leather sheath and stamped "MT Bozeman MT" with the outline of Montana. The knife measures 9" long overall with the blade being 4 1/2" long.

This is an original Montana Territory Knives of Bozeman, Montana knife showing stag antler grips, rodeo scrimshaw, and Damascus blade. The blade has been forged from 1095...moreHC (High Carbon) steel and 15N20 Nickel Carbon, which is then heated and folded into 396 layers, creating the astounding “Damascus” steel. The knife shows a wonderful, raindrop Damascus. The hollow grind, full tang blade has been paired with a set of Stag antler, premium grip scales, which are secured to the piece with a mosaic pin, three brass pins, and lanyard loops. The side of the grip displays a cowboy and bucking bronco scrimshaw. The knife also features a set of polished stainless-steel bolsters with a comfortable finger well. The tang and knife spine have been artfully hand vine filled. The blade is marked with the “MONTANA TERRITORY KNIVES BOZEMAN MONTANA” stamping, which shows the outline of Montana. The knife has been paired with leather, hand crafted sheath. The knife measures overall 10 3/4" long with the blade being 5 1/2" long.

The artwork comes complete with a first edition book on artwork from the same artist and shows a provenance complete with pictures of the artwork and postcards from the artist gallery. The condition of this framed lithograph is good repaired frame and in good overall condition. The measurements of this framed lithograph are 28 3/4" x 36 1/2" and the visible art measures 21 3/4" x 29 3/4". Provenance: Purchased from Elaine Horowitz Gallery in 1978 for $1300.00. Benjamin Gifford (1859-1936) Mount Hood c. 1899

For your consideration in this lot is a 1899 original photograph of "Sunrise On Mount Hood From Lost Lake" by Benjamin Gifford. Benjamin Gifford (1859-1936) is considered...more to be one of Oregon’s most influential photographers. After completing an apprenticeship at a photo gallery in Kansas, Gifford moved to Portland in 1890 to open his own photography studio that stayed in the family until 1955. This image was taken in 1899 and is considered to be his most famous photograph and one of the earliest and most iconic views of Mt. Hood. Gifford claimed he was offered $1000 (in the early 1900’s!) for the glass plate negative. The whereabouts of the negative is unknown and it is presumed lost or irreversibly damaged. This photograph is copyrighted with Gifford’s mark in the lower left corner that reads "Copyright 1899 Benj .A. Glifford The Dells Or." and titled, "Sunrise On Mount Hood From Lost Lake". It is in an original tiger wood frame. Overall this is a phenomenal example of one of Oregon’s most iconic photographic images by the Grandfather of Oregon Photography. This sold at " Aurora Mills: Antiques, Vintage, Salvage" for over $6000. The photograph and frame shows age and wear to be expected with it's over 120 year age. The frame measures 30 1/2" x 20"

The advertisement is shown on the top of the map and reads as follows: The Northwestern Stockman and Farmers - Helena Montana - The only strictly agricultural and live stock paper in the Northwest - We have special editors for field agriculture, live stock, dairying, poultry, veterinary and woman's departments - Subscription Price - $1.00 per year. The condition of this of this map is good with slight browning to the map consistent with the age of the map and a slight wear mark adorns the top of the map but otherwise in good overall condition. The measurements of this map is 24 3/4" x 28".
