"Assassination of Lincoln" 1st Ed Benn Pitman 1865

Featured in this lot is this amazing historical book titled, "The Assassination of President Lincoln and the Trial of the Conspirators" compiled and arranged by the Recor...moreder to the Commission Benn Pitman, and published by Moore, Wilstach & Baldwin in New York circa 1865. This book provides a thorough account of the events leading up to Abraham Lincoln's murder and the trial of those who planned it, as written by Benn Pitman, the official main reporter to the tribunal holding the trial. The book also contains a wealth of historical information about the Civil War that was mentioned by witnesses but was previously unknown or forgotten. The frontispiece engraving titled, "The Conspirators" was done by A.H. Ritchie and shows the nine conspirators involved in the assassination, including John Wilkes Booth. Stated in the front page of the book and written in ink, the book was rebound in Spokane, Idaho and was property of R.L. Banta. It is stated that the original binding was leather. The book is bound in a red hard cover featuring gold gilt designs on the front, as well as the spine. The spine reads, "Assassination of Pres. Lincoln / Pitman" in gold gilt. The book shows good condition despite its antique age with little wear to the outside cover. The interior pages show slight foxing and staining due to its antique age but is still in very good, readable condition. The book measures 9 7/16" L x 6 1/2" W x 1 5/16" D and weighs 1 pound and 10 ounces.

Featured in this lot is this well cast, Boardman Warranted pewter teapot made by Thomas Danforth Boardman circa 1820-30s. T.D. Boardman and his brother Sherman opened a p...moreewter and silver company near the Connecticut River in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1798. The Boardman brand gained recognition for its outstanding craftsmanship and quality. The piece shows a black handle and a hinged top to open and close. the bottom is marked with the iconic Boardman Eagle mark and reads, "Boardman Warranted" below and above the mark it is stamped reading, "No. 9 / X". The mark has faded and worn away from its age and use over the years but is still slightly visible. The teapot shows good condition overall with slight wear present, but no signs of major damage is noted. It measures 9 7/8" L x 6" W x 7 1/8" H and weighs 1 pound and 12 ounces.

The entire doll is colored black and white with horizontal stripes and shows the eyes as white or otherworldly. This Hopi Indian sacred clown kachina is associated with fertility, rain, sun, corn and corn pollen, associations that give him power. The condition of this stuffed Kachina doll is preserved with some fading to the dyes of the fabric of the doll and shows some wear from the age of the doll but otherwise is in preserved condition. The measurements of this Kachina doll is 29" x 14" x 2 1/4". The collective weight of this Kachina doll is 8oz.

This book shows good condition with wear and tear to the dust jacket but no obvious signs of damage are present to the hardback cover. The interior pages show good condition as well. "Presented is the book of Western Verse, ""Corral Dust"", by Bob Fletcher 1934, drawings by Shorty Shope. Robert H. Fletcher, was a Western poet and writer perhaps best k...morenow as the uncredited writer of the lyrics to Cole Porter 's song, “Don't Fence Me In."" His writings included a novel on the early days in the Montana cattle business, “From Free Grass to Fences.” Formerly of Butte, Montana, Fletcher moved to Helena, Montana to work for the Montana Highway Department to promote tourism in Montana. In about 1935 he was instrumental in the creation of ""Ports of Entry"" at major highways entering Montana, where visitors were provided with information about Montana's history and points of interest. He became a student of Montana history, and with that background he wrote the text for a series of historical markers displayed throughout Montana in the mid-1930s. Several compilations of those markers have been published. In the 1950s he was commissioned by the Montana Cattlemen's Association to write a history of the cattle industry in Montana titled ""Free Grass to Fences."" He was an early ""cowboy poet"".

Samuel Hou...moreston (1793 – 1863) was an American general and statesman who played an important role in the Texas Revolution. He served as the first and third president of the Republic of Texas and was one of the first two individuals to represent Texas in the United States Senate. He also served as the sixth governor of Tennessee and the seventh governor of Texas, the only individual to be elected governor of two different states in the United States. Marquis James was an American journalist and author, twice awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his works. The red cloth bound hardcover exhibits scuffing and staining, spine loose at both joints. Intact deckled bottom and fore edge pages exhibit age tanning, foxing and top edge scuffing to rear pages. Measures 5.5"W x 8.25"L x 1.5"D.
