The piece shows good condition overall with wear present from its use over the years. No signs of major damage is noted. The piece measures 20 3/8" L x 23 7/8" W x 2" D and weighs 7 pounds and 4 ounces.

Frank Jay Haynes Yellowstone Boudoir Photos (2)

Featured in this lot are two large, Frank Jay Haynes Yellowstone National Park boudoir cabinet card photos circa 1890-1900. Frank Jay Haynes, known as F. Jay or the Profe...moressor to almost all who knew him, was a professional photographer, publisher, and entrepreneur from Minnesota who played a major role in documenting through photographs of the settlement and early history of the great Northwest. The first photo is untitled and not numbered. It shows a view of a geyser in Yellowstone National Park erupting, or getting ready to erupt as a tower of steam and water start to rise. The back of the card reads, "Boudoir Views / Our collection of views in this popular size embraces scenery along the entire line of the Northern Pacific, including Yellowstone National Park, Clark's Forks and Columbia River, Mt. Hood, Mt. Tacoma, and Pacific Coast, Montana, Wyoming, Dakota, Etc / Descriptive Catalogue Free / Photographed and Published by F. Jay Haynes / Official Photographer N.P.R.R. / Fargo, Dakota". The second boudoir photo is numbered, "3659" and titled, "Great Falls from Red Rock". It shows the Great Falls of Yellowstone from the Red Rock viewing platform, the tallest waterfall in Yellowstone measuring 308 feet in height. The back of the card reads, "F. Jay Haynes, Offical Photographer N.P.R.R 392 Jackson St., St. Paul, Minn. / Send for Catalog of Views / Northern Pacific, Yellowstone Park, Pacific Coast and Alaska". Provenance: From the personal collection of Francoise Perriot (Françoise Perriot), noted historian author of the West and Native Americans. Perriot’s published works include such books as “Les Indiens et La Nature” (Indians and Nature) 2017, “La Conquête du Far West” (The Conquest of the Wild West) 2007, “Les Indiens d'Amérique du Nord” (North American Indians), “Guide Bleu : Etats-Unis Ouest Americain” (Blue Guide: United States West America). This piece and others come from her time collecting in Montana and the West, her book “Les Indiens et la nature” is one of the most notable in France documenting photographs of the west. Both boudoir cabinet card photos show good condition overall with little wear present from their age and use over the years. No signs of obvious damage is present. They measure 8 1/2" L x 5 3/16" W.

W.E. Hook Garden of the Gods Cabinet Card Photos

"For your consideration are three William Edward Hook (1833-1908) boudoir albumen cabinet cards circa 1885-1897. Hook was born in Litchfield, England. His family briefly ...morerelocated to the United States in 1834 before returning to England in 1851. In 1857, he married Eleanor Jane Dore, and they had six children. Hook returned to the United States in 1867, but not with his family. Two years later, he opened a photographic studio in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. In February 1875, two of his boys accompanied him to the United States. Hook closed his photography studio in Wisconsin in 1877, and he and his surviving son, William, began working as traveling photographers from Missoula, Montana. They spent the following four years traveling and photographing across Montana and Wyoming, including Yellowstone National Park, Alberta, Northwest Territory, and the Canadian Northwest Rockies. By 1881, Hook had established a photographic studio in Marquette, Michigan, from which he sold his photos of the American West. In April 1885, Hook opened a photographic studio in Manitou Springs, Colorado. In September 1885, he filed a homestead claim on Ruxton Creek near Pikes Peak, naming it ""Artist's Glen."" Hook specialized over the years in marketing Colorado's beautiful views to tourists.

Featured in this lot are eight real photo postcards from various photographers including William H. Martin (Martin Post Card Company) and Frasher's Fotos circa 1909-1920s...more. The first three photos in this lot were taken by William H. Martin (Martin Post Card Company) circa 1909. The first photo postcard is titled, "Crazy Snake Assembling His Warriors" copy-righted in 1909 by W.H. Martin. It shows Chief Chitto Harjo, Crazy Snake, sitting on horse back around a few other warriors also on horse back. He is wearing a large headdress with large feathers poking out the top. The second photo is titled, "A Little fresh Meat for the Redman" copy-righted 1909 by W.H. Martin. It depicts a group of about sixteen Native American men surrounding a bison while on horse back, ready to hunt and use the bison for food and materials. The third photo by William H. Martin is titled, "Indian Family at Home" copy-righted in 1909 by Martin Post Card Company. It shows a family of four standing in front of their home. The man and woman stand in the middle while the youngest sits on horse back to the left of them and the oldest stands to the right of them. The one and only Frasher's Fotos is titled, "Shearing Sheep, Obtaining Wool to be used in Navajo Indian Rug Weaving" and shows three Navajo women sheering sheep. One stands in the background next to the house, while the two in the foreground work on shearing. The fifth photo postcard is titled, "No. 54 Nez Perce Dining Room Idaho" but shows no publisher mark. It shows a group of Nez Perce tribe members sitting on the ground inside a teepee eating a meal with each other. The sixth photo is numbered "64" in the bottom right hand corner but shows no publisher mark. It shows a group of Native Americans gathering aroudn a few men working on something on the ground. Some stand, some sit and one is on horse back wearing a large feather headdress. The back is marked in pencil reading, "Finished by Hugh Davis ? Box 432". The seventh in this lot shows a white woman and a Native American woman sitting on the ground in front of a teepee, appearing to have a conversation as they laugh and smile. The back reads, "Postcard" and has been marked with pencil reading, "Nebraska?". The eighth and final photo is numbered on the back reading, "88" in blue. It shows no publisher mark. The photo shows four teepees in a row and telephone poles in the background. A barrel sits in front of the closest teepee. Provenance: From the personal collection of Francoise Perriot (Françoise Perriot), noted historian author of the West and Native Americans. The buckle is marked on the back side of the buckle "A'. The condition of this Navajo buckle is good with some slight patina and oxidation to the inside of the shadowbox but otherwise shows good overall condition. The measurements of this buckle is 2" x 3 3/8" x 5/8". The collective weight of this buckle is 61.8g.

For your consideration are three Native American photos and one Native American cabinet card photo circa 1900-1911. No publisher or makers mark present. The cabinet card ...morephoto is set on a cream card stock and shows two Native American girls, possibly sisters, sitting and posing for a photo. The older one sits on the right, while the younger one sits on the left. They are wearing long dresses and the older one has her hair done in two large braids. The first photo is marked on the back in pencil reading, "Crow Children / E / 1911" and shows four Crow tribe children sitting on horse back. There are two children to a horse and they are looking towards the camera. They have their hair in braids and appear to be wearing trade blankets around their waists. The second photo is marked on the back in pencil reading, "E / Thomas Wasee (Wagee) / 1911". It shows a Native American man and woman standing out in a field while a horse grazes in the background. The man is wearing a large headdress and the woman has her hair in two braids. Their clothes are adorned with beautiful beadwork. The final photo in this lot is marked on the back in pencil reading, "Blackfeet Man and Women / 1911". The photo shows three Blackfeet tribe members, one man and two women, riding on horse back while two dogs trail behind the women and their horses. In the background, many teepees can be seen throughout the field. Both women are wearing bonnets over their heads and the man is wearing a hat and a suit. Provenance: From the personal collection of Francoise Perriot (Françoise Perriot), noted historian author of the West and Native Americans.
