Steyr K98 98k bnz 45 Phosphate Finish Rifle 8mm Mauser - FFL C&R - WWII German

Lot # 48

Up for auction is a Mauser K98K chambered in 8mm Mauser. This last ditch WW2 rifle features a BNZ45 manufacturer code. The barrel is a bnz. Marked on the rear sight is the wWaffenamt WaA623 proof as is the front receiver ring. Floorplate is byf with Eagle 135 markings. Forward of the plate upon the triggerguard bottom plate are two mark Eagle mark 135. Date of manufacture is C. 1945 and the rifle features something fairly strange for a Mauser rifle but is almost exclusive to the last ditch variants, and that is a typical phosphate finish compared to the standard bluing. In addition to all of this, the rifle features coarse and less refined machined compared to the Mausers of early and mid WW2. The rifle also features a late stamped bottom metal, and welded barrel bands unlike the nicely machined ones from the beginning of the war. And surprisingly, in very German fashion, the rifle still feels as smooth as any other Mauser despite the ?Cruder? looking exterior. The Germans were very proud of their rifles up until the very end of the war and this example is proof, showing that even on the edge of defeat, they still made a quality rifle. Truly a must have for any respectable German WW2 arms collector.
