RARE Colt Third Model Thuer Derringer 1st Variation .41 RF *Antique*

Lot # 157

This is a rare early model of Colt's Thuer derringer, the third model of the Colt derringer line. Features a low serial numbered (1772) brass frame with a large swivel bolster and an address comprised simply of "COLT" in large italics on the top of the barrel. This example is in wonderful condition, conveying an appropriate patina and minimal external pitting or gouging on the metallic surfaces. The bore does show some minor pitting and the rifling is visible but faded. The grip panels are walnut with exquisite figure. They are dinged around the grip screw but otherwise in very solid condition. This derringer is missing a mainspring, but otherwise shows good function. The third model of Colt's derringer was manufactured approximately from 1875-1912. There are no specific records conveying production years based on serial numbers; however, due to the low serial number and features of a first variant design, we believe this example was produced approximately between 1875 and 1880. No FFL required.
