Antique Hand-Built Trunk Filled with Antique Planes and Tools
Hand-made 1800s trunk thought to be Mahogany with dove tail joints reinforced with screws and with castors. Maker's initials, WLW, inlayed in top. Made circa 1870s by wood worker named Welsh. Trunk is filled with many wood tools including wood clamps with wood screw bars and planes dating to the late 1800s, most are marked with the owner's initials, WLW. Consignor indicates that this is a set that has been together for over 100 years with a single original owner. Trunk measures approximately 37.5" x 22" x 20.5" including castors and has interior removable tray. No lock. Includes six antique primitive wood clamps with wood screw bars ranging from 8" to 12", and one partial clamp. Marks include 810 Pawtucket, 812 FF Brown, SS Benser, FKBM, and WLW. Large Wood Mallet with 7" head stamped WLM. Two primitive wood block jointer planes, 22" and 16", stamped THOS L Appleton, Chelsea, WLW, and both have hand-forged blades, one prominently stamped. Great wood plow plane stamped B, Arrow Mammett Works, Middletown, Jelyons, and has blade. Six primitive varying style moulding planes marked 1/4, 1/4, 1/2, 5/8, 5/16 No. 220. Most are stamped ThosL Appleton, but one is marked Greenfield Tool Co, and all stamped WLW and all with blades. Two Primitive wood block Modelling Planes, 8", appears to have hand cast steel blades, Stamped WLW and EA Currier. Also included are 9 additional plane blades, some marked Cast Steel and Providence Tool Co, assortment of antique chisels and gouges, and other antique wood tools with wood handles, drill bits, gauges, and more. Includes the original owner's WLW initial stamp! Overall incredible antique tool set sold as a set that has been together since the 1800s. All in good condition for age! -bay 3
