STOP: DON'T BID ON THIS LOT - A Note From The Seller

Lot # 501

A note from the seller

Glenn Newman Sr.,

A self-employed electrical contractor by trade after serving in the Navy on USS Connolly in the Pacific in WWII. Now I am 96 1/2 years old. My interest in Ford Thunderbirds began with a 1964 Landau (black vinyl top with silver paint.) Married almost 20 years and 5 kids, there came a time when our family needed another vehicle. Thinking that an economy car would be the answer I checked the newspaper ads where I saw a '64 T-Bird for sale, for which I paid $1,250, in 1969, a classy car for the price, and solid body protecting its passengers. I later joined the T-Bird club after making a work-related stop one day at Toledo Edison warehouse and caught a conversation about it.

Watching ads in papers like the Trading Post, auctions, and others, I purchased cars described as 'parts cars', but disassembled, restored, or stored for future use. (My daughter who writes this for me remembers the pink containers of naval jelly, black paint, brushes, sandpaper, polish for insides and out prior to the final paint by someone else.) Thirteen cars later, including two for my sons, only four remain. Up to about five or six years ago, I still worked on my cars. In 1980 I had my first cataract surgeries the final result costing me the use of my left eye and depth perception. I ran across a wonderful eye doctor who performed a corneal transplant, eliminating eyedrops and pain as well thereafter. I was still able to take care of people's electrical needs and work on my cars until needing the help of a cane, then a walker, now a scooter limiting my physical ability. So I have had to close that chapter of my life now hoping someone else will find the satisfaction and enjoyment I have for many years in working on and driving these T-Birds....more
