MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 7x57. S# SE9527. All visible numbers match. Bbl. 29 1/4". Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Inverted V front sight. These rifles were bei...moreng mfg. by Steyr as the Model 1912 Mexican Contract. The outbreak of WWI saw these rifles being taken into Austrian service as the Model 1914. There is an accompanying crest on the right side of the butt; though lightly worn, it is legible. The left receiver rail is marked "WAFFENFABRIK STEYR AUSTRIA". The S# has an "S" - E prefix. Narrow lower band with bottom swivel H-type upper band with parade hook. Bayonet bar is present. The cleaning rod appears to be a shorter replacement. Walnut stock set. The hand guard extends from the receiver ring through the lower band. In addition to the crest, the buttstock has a plain marking disk on the right side. Additionally, the right side of the butt has, in script, "R Perrill." The left side of the butt has prominent "RP" initials. Brown leather Austrian-style sling with riveted construction and an aluminum screw fastener to keep the sling taut. CONDITION: the rifle has an attractive finish, with expected wear and handling marks due to considerable service use. The blued parts are thinning with light wear. Bands, bolts, and buttplate are turning gray. Bore is shiny with strong lands, but with the appearance of frosting in the grooves. PROVENANCE: from the lifelong collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker.
