ENGINEERING BATTALION. 56" x 42" double sided direct applique silk embroidery, fringe & sleeve hoist, Lenin portrait. The 36th was a division of the Red Army. "DEATH TO G...moreERMAN INVADERS" is translation before unit markings. The division was formed in 1919 as the 36th Rifle Division and fought in the Russian Civil War and the Sino-Soviet conflict of 1929. In 1937 it became the 36th Motorized Division. The division fought in the Battles of Khalkhin Gol. It was converted into a motor rifle division in 1940 and fought in the Soviet invasion of Manchuria in World War II. Postwar, it became a rifle division again before its disbandment in 1956. The division spent almost its entire service in the Soviet Far East. CONDITION: very good overall, double panels sewn together, staining, soiling unaffecting overall aesthetic. (02-19473-74/JS). $200-300.

SPANISH AMERICAN WAR HISTORIC BULLET RIDDLED FLAG

TAKEN FROM DEFENDERS OF GUANTANAMO WITH POLE. 33" x 34" printed Spanish national flag "Prince's 3rd Infantry Regiment", 44" of original pole with flag tacked with metalli...morec ribbon, several perfect round bullet holes and other holes probably for other projectiles. Before the Cuban Insurrection, the regiment was based in Spain. When the Cuban Insurrection began, the Spanish Minister of War, General Azcarraga, ordered that a number of Spanish regiments be sent to Cuba, with battalions coming from the various regiments. By the Royal Order of Campaign, in October 18, 1895, twenty infantry regiments were ordered to send one battalion to Cuba. The battalion sent by Prince's Infantry Regiment nr 3 was its first Battalion. The total number of men in the battalion was 1040, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Jose Patino Rodriguez. When this Battalion arrived in Cuba, it was sent to Guantanamo and brigaded into the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 4th Corps under command of General Linares. This battalion included: Staff Detachment: 1 Lieutenant Colonel, 2 comandantes (major in US Army), 2 captains, 1 alferez (2nd lieutenant in US Army) for carrying the regimental flag, 2 medical doctors (officers), 1 chaplain (officer), 1 sergeant, 1 cornet corporal and 1 gunsmith. 6 companies, 1st and 2nd companies having 1 captain, 3 lieutenants, 1 alferez (2nd lieutenant in US Army), 5 sergeants, 10 corporals, 4 cornets, 4 soldiers of 1st class (veterans) and 144 soldiers of 2nd class. 3rd to 6th companies having 1 captain, 3 lieutenants, 1 alferez (2nd lieutenant in US Army), 5 sergeants, 10 corporals, 4 cornets, 4 soldiers of 1st class (veterans) and 143 soldiers of 2nd class. During the Spanish American War, this unit saw action against 1st US Marine Battalion in the actions around Guantanamo Bay, which United States still retains today. CONDITION: good to very good as battlefield souvenir, pole is shattered, and tack repaired below flag. (02-19473-60/JS). $200-300.

CIVIL WAR MOVIE FLAG, LINCOLN ASSASSINATION SCENE,

"NATIONAL TREASURE-BOOK OF SECRETS". 6' x 6' "US TREASURY GUARDS" regimental standard. This is copy of the flag that was in President Lincoln's box at Ford's theater. Dra...morematically associated with the close the war, this flag decorated the front of the Presidential box at Ford Theater, in Washington, D.C. on the night of April 14th, 1865. Booth, President Abraham Lincoln's assassin, caught his spur and tore the original flag as he jumped from the Presidential Box to the stage below. This flag was used in the 2007 Nicolas Cage film "National Treasure-Book of Secrets", used in the film scene like the actual flag in Ford's Theater, where Booth jumps from Lincoln's box catching his spur on the flag causing him to break his leg when he hits the stage below. Movie flag even has the edge tear like the original from the spur. "Sic Semper Tyrannis!". CONDITION: very good overall. (02-19473-81/JS). $200-300.

SCARCE WINCHESTER MODEL 1895 BAYONET.

Lot # 1317 (Sale Order: 320 of 526)      

12 3/4" overall w/ 8 3/16" fullered blade. Bayonet marked on front right side of cross guard "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO." According to the book "BAYONETS" by Jerry Jan...morezen.100 of these bayonets were made for trials w/ the Model 95 muskets & sent to the Phillipines. Almost 15,000 of these bayonets were supplied to Russia to be used w/ the Model 95 muskets. Their short blade was disliked in Russian service & the remainder of the contract was filled by a 16" blade version. The form of the bayonet is similar to the 1895 Lee Navy but is identified by the Winchester markings. Plain cross guard w/ muzzle ring. Birdshead pommel. Walnut grips are attached by flush rivets. Metal parts are finished bright. Leather scabbard with attached leather frog. The unmarked scabbard has blued steel throat & tip. Tip has ball type finial. The frog is stitched in a manner which does not allow for use on a belt but appears to be made to use a belt hook similar to the Model 1907 Type. CONDITION: all parts of the bayonet show little or no wear including the unsharpened blade but are turning lightly gray w/ scattered spots of very light oxidation. Leather scabbard & frog show light wear, scuffing & flexing. Stitching is tight. Metal tip & throat retain most of their lightly worn original blue with peppery oxidation. PROVANANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18447/RW). $200-400.

CONDITION:...more metal components retain good amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting wear through to gray patina, and with the muzzle rings exhibit mild surface oxidation and age related discoloration. Leather sleeve remains malleable exhibiting scattered marks from handling, storage, and use, with some areas of crazing overall. PROVENANCE: From the estate collection of Thomas J. Mulligan. US M1816 BAYONET & A TRUNCHEON WITH COLLAPSIBLE

KNIFE. 1) BAYONET. This M1816 bayonet measures 19 1/8" overall with a 3" socket. The bayonet is marked on the face "US" over "_C". CONDITION: the bayonet has a dark overa...morell patina with minor areas of pitting. 2) TRUNCHEON. A very interesting turned wood truncheon measuring 12" overall with a 5 1/2" turned wood grip. There is a 1 1/4" ferrule at the base, and a 1 1/2" ferrule at the top. In the center of the top is a small brass door that opens to reveal a collapsible 4" steel, 4-sided blade. CONDITION: truncheon shows light wear overall. Blade has a light gray finish. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor. (02-19902-3/BF). $200-350.

Blued steel scabbards w/ brown leather frogs equipped w/ belt loops. Brass disks are marked "US". Leather loops have faint arsenal markings. 4) 18" triangular blade. US Model 1862. Hewes & Phillips conversion. "T Mortise Cut." w/out lock ring. 3" socket. Blade is marked on top "U.S.". Incorrect steel scabbard w/out frog. CONDITION: bayonets range from fair to good in overall condition but some have greater amount of original blue than others w/ wear, oxidation & areas of fine pitting. Scabbards are similar in condition but may have sm. vents & generally less finish. Leather frogs have wear, scuffing & flexing. Brass parts have staining & patina.
