Top of receiver marked "TC ORMAN 1948" denoting Turkish update to forestry carbine config. Left side of receiver has French St. Etienne M16 markings. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2400m. Rear sight elevator is loose & may require attention. Blade front sight w/ ears. Hardwood stock set w/ bottom mounted sling swivels & leather sling. CONDITION: stock set has added varnish, some scarring on forend from improper band removal, a few gouges, scattered flaking, dings & handling marks. Left side of receiver has Tulle arsenal markings & 1886/93/R35 marking. Ladder rear sight graduated to 1000m. Wide blade front sight. European hardwood stock set w/ left side sling swivels & original sling. Tag present on trigger guard stating that this rifle was found in a cave in Brest, France in 1944. The tag further states that there was a large amount of ammo, rifles w/ bent bbls. & destroyed stocks in the cave. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: R35 bayonet w/ matching scabbard in fair condition w/ overall oxidation staining & some light pitting. CONDITION: arsenal reworked stock set shows scattered dings & handling marks. Upper tang is proud of wood. Metal retains 60% arsenal black enamel finish w/ scattered flaking. Victor Christian Schilling was a gun maker located in Suhl & was part of a con...moresortium of arms makers which included Haenel & Sauer working for the Prussian government to produce Model 98 rifles. It is not certain if any of these 3 firms produced all the parts necessary for complete rifles or if they were mutually supporting as had been done earlier between Haenel & Schilling when producing Model 88 carbines. Bright receiver & bolt. Receiver ring is marked on top "V.CHR. SCHILLING / SUHL 1917". Marked on right side w/ imperial proofs and on the left side w/ Prussian eagle acceptance mark. Left receiver rail marked in Fraktur "Gew98". Bbl. is marked on top over chamber w/ "S" . Lange rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Inverted V front sight. Straight bolt handle. Upper band has "parade hook". Bayonet bar & cleaning rod are present. Bottom swivels. Detachable rear swivel is present. Beech stock w/ walnut hand guard. Stock is equipped w/ steel disassembly disk. Butt is marked on right side w/ Imperial Monograms plus "B" indicating beech stock. CONDITION: stock set is well worn w/ dents, scratches & staining throughout. Notable dents & sm. gouges on right side of forend by grasping groove. Forend has notable wear on both sides due to band removal. Hand guard has notable cracks in forward end. Worn metal has traces blue turning overall gray & patina. Receiver & bolt have been lightly cleaned. (23-2229/RW). MODERN. CURIO. $800-1,100.

Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Blade front sight. Follower & floorplate appear to be replacements w/out bolt hold open. Yugo marked laminated stock set w/ left side sling provisions. Leather post war K98k sling & incorrect cleaning rod present. Sanded stock set shows scattered dings & handling marks. Metal is a silvery gray patina w/ scattered oxidation & dings. CARBINE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 3361NN. All visible numbers match. 23 3/4" bbl. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Inverted V front sight w/ protective ears. The ...moreoriginal short Model 98 carbines did not prove successful due to excessive muzzle blast & recoil. They were replaced by the longer KAR98 starting in 1908. The sm. ring receiver is marked on top "ERFURT" imperial crown "1917". Receiver marked on right side w/ imperial proofs. Marked on left side w/ eagle acceptance mark. Marked on left rail in fractur is "Kar98". Bolt handle is turned down. Knob is flattened & checkered on the underside. Hinged upper band. Stacking bar & bayonet lug are present. Stock set has beech buttstock & walnut hand guard. Buttstock is made w/ grasping grooves & slot for side sling. Equipped w/ steel disassembly disk. Right side of butt has faint imperial monograms & "B" indicates a beech stock. CONDITION: stock set has arsenal rework type finish over wear, staining & moderate handling marks w/ slight loss of wood in inletted areas & softening of edges. Buttstock has sm. crack behind receiver tang & checks plus fine cracks on both sides of butt. Hand guard has chipping issues at rear edge. Worn metal turning gray & patina w/ light oxidation plus areas of fine pitting throughout. Worn bore turning dark in grooves. (23-2228/RW). CURIO. $500-700.
