Left side of butt marked "B/S.F./29".Ramrod present. CONDITION: stock shows a crack behind lockplate, some gouges near rear recoil bolt, scattered dings & handling wear. Metal is mostly a brown patina w/ a ding over serial number, some sparse scattered light pitting & oxidation. Worn bore w/ heavy pitting. (01-23895/MJC). ANTIQUE. $400-600.

Saddle bar & ring on left side. Walnut carbine stock w/ boxed "SWP" & indistinct date. Circle script "P" at end of trigger guard tang is very faint. "US" marked trap buttplate. Cleaning rod holes are correctly drilled. CONDITION: stock has worn but attractive original finish w/ moderate wear & handling marks. Metal has traces of blue turning gray w/ wear. Scattered scratches & peppery oxidation. S# has been removed from the rear of the receiver leaving deep scratches. Bore is shiny w/ strong sharp lands but grooves are darkening w/ shallow pitting throughout. (01-23450/RW). ANTIQUE. $600-900.

Marked "R". Blade front sight. Receiver mfg. in 1889. Case colored breech block is dated "1873". Flat lockplate w/ U.S. SPRINGFIELD" & eagle. 3 Click tumbler. Receiver tang is case colored. Long comb walnut stock w/ crisp boxed "SWP 1889" on left side & circled script "P" proof under grip. "U.S." marked buttplate. 2 Piece trigger guard. Upper band w/ stacking & sling swivels. Correct ramrod is present. CONDITION: very fine. Bbl. retaining over 90% original blue w/ some freckling & a bit of muzzle wear. Breechblock retains over 85% of its case hardening color as does bbl. tang. Lock retains about 80% original blue w/ loss due to flaking at tail & toward breech block latch. Stock retains nearly all of its oil finish w/ scattered handling marks, tiny crack behind lockplate & notable dent on right side of forend between bbl. bands plus sm. gouge at belly of stock on left rear buttplate. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. (01-23831/RW). ANTIQUE. $700-900.

1884 SINGLE SHOT TRAPDOOR MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 295338. Bbl. 29 5/8". Buffington rear sight graduated to 1400 yards marked "R". Blade front sight w/ added unmark...moreed "M 1883" Buffington sight cover. Receiver mfg. in 1885. This late style Cadet showing arsenal quality workmanship was made by shortening a service rifle stock w/ the buttplate width reduced & the stock tip fitted w/ a walnut filler used when the ramrod stop was remounted. This model of Cadet rifle may be correct w/ the sling swivels present. Bbl. marked on top left rear w/ "VP" eagle proof & "A" over chamber. "1884" Dated breech block. Flat lockplate marked "US SPRINGFIELD" & eagle. Bottom of stock & receiver trough have approx. 1/4" hole drilled through & the hole is ground w/ a chamfer in the trough. This may have been done for a lamp cord to convert the rifle to a floor lamp. The firing pin has been shortened & the extractor while present does not function correctly. Upper band has stacking & sling swivels. Shortened ramrod is present. Short comb walnut stock is marked with "C 19" ahead of buttplate. CONDITION: stock has arsenal rework refinish w/ moderate wear & handling marks throughout. Wrist area over trigger guard has brass pinned reinforcements on both sides. Metal turning overall gray & patina w/ wear & light oxidation. Ramrod stop is broken but both pieces are present. Bore is shiny w/ sharp lands but scattered sm. spots of oxidation & fine pitting throughout. (01-23830/RW). ANTIQUE. $300-500.

Bbl. 32 1/2". 498 of these rifles were made at Springfield Armory during 1868 using a Rolling Block action purchased from Rem...moreington & utilizing a muzzle loading bbl. w/ a brazed in liner. The receiver tang is marked "REMINGTONS ILION N.Y. U.S.A. / PAT. MAY 3D NOV. 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1866". The correctly marked receiver has a sm. anchor on the left side above the trigger guard & on the right side has "P" proof above the "F.C.W." which is Frank C. Warner. Breech block has correct concave configuration under chamber & stud type extractor. 2 leaf folding rear sight w/ aperture midway of the long leaf. Stud type front sight. Cleaning rod is present. Walnut stock set. Forend is retained by 2 solid bands w/ band springs. Buttstock is unmarked. Buttplate is marked on tang "US A27". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 16" triangular blade socket bayonet marked on top of the 11/16" blade "US". Bayonet is fitted w/ locking ring. Bayonet has turned overall patina w/ light oxidation & scattered handling marks. CONDITION: stock set has extensive wear & handling marks throughout w/ notable loss of finish at toe. Sm. crack behind receiver tang & several cracks along trigger guard tang. Notable crack behind receiver on right side plus 5 sm. puncture holes behind receiver on left side. Forend has sm. crack on right side ahead of receiver & wear along ramrod channel. Sm. crack behind lower band. Forend tip has notably dented appearance. Metal retains traces of original blue turning gray & patina w/ wear, oxidation, scattered fine pitting & handling marks. Screw heads are notably burred. Good shiny 3 groove bore w/ scattered fine pitting throughout. (01-23711/RW). ANTIQUE. $500-700.

U.S. NAVY SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1870 ROLLING BLOCK

SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 50-70. S# NSN. Bbl. 32 5/8" w/ ladder rear sight graduated to 1,000 yds. Stud type front sight. These rifles were mfg. by Springfield Armory for t...morehe U.S. Navy. The action is marked on the right side w/ the eagle "USN SPRINGFIELD 1870". Information on these interesting rifles in the book Remington Rolling Block Military Rifles of the World by Layman states that following a dubious transaction w/ purchasing agents for the French Government these rifles were condemned as the placement of the rear sight on the bbl. was only 1/2" in front of the receiver instead of the required 3 1/8". Most rifles went to France but some had already entered the U.S. Navy & were on board ship at distant parts of the world. There are two versions of this rifle which are the early "rejected" models & the later "accepted" models w/ correct sight placement. Sliding extractor. Receiver tang has Remington patent markings. Swivels mounted in trigger guard & upper band. Ramrod is present. Unmarked walnut stock set & forend retained by 2 solid bands secured w/ band springs. Buttplate is marked "US" at tang. CONDITION: stock set has nice appearing original finish w/ light wear & scattered handling marks throughout. Bright metal turning gray & patina. Upper band has been polished bright. CONDITION: sanded stock w/ added finish has hatching on both sides of butt, a couple cracks near recoil bolt, a chip to rear of lock, a few gouges, scattered dings & handling wear. "N.S./ N.E.P." indicating ...more"Native Service Nepal" on left side of barrel below rear sight base. Short lever action with checkered buttplate. Rifle is mounted with vintage brown leather sling, as well as a socket bayonet that bears Nepalese markings on the blade and scabbard. CONDITION: Metal components retain a dark gray patina overall, with scattered areas of mild to moderate pitting. Bright bore, exhibiting strong rifling throughout. Stock exhibits scattered marks and impressions from storage and handling, with some losses present on either side of the barrel channel. Sling exhibits some age related cracking, but otherwise remains malleable. Bayonet exhibits age related discoloration, with some scattered spots of pitting. Scabbard shows some separation at the stitching, with brass components retaining a pleasing mustard colored patina. (01-23715/MLW). ANTIQUE. $300-500

SHOT BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 11mm Gras. S# N84112. Numbers match on bbl., bolt assembly, stock & bayonet bar. 32 1/4" bbl. Ladder rear sight graduated 1700 yards...more. Inverted V front sight. Receiver is marked on left side "St. Etienne MLE 1866-74". The bbl. which has the chamber insert to convert from the Chassepot paper cartridge to the metallic Gras cartridge is marked on the top right flat "S. 1872 C. 79" & marked on right flat "ME" which is the St. Etienne arsenal marking. European walnut stock. Stock is marked on right side w/ roundel which has been obscured except for the central wooden plug which is stamped "ME". Left side of stock has roundel marked outside "NOVEMBRE S.VC. 1879". The center is marked "MA". This marking was added when the Chassepot rifle was converted to the Gras cartridge in 1879. Stamped under grip with partly obscured letters which appear to be "HBMRAILLER". Bbl. bands are retained by springs. Ramrod is not present. CONDITION: stock has been refinished leaving a lighter coloration with a reddish cast. Shows a slight loss of wood in inletted areas & rendering some markings only partially legible. Metal retains much of its original blue w/ patina, light wear & handling marks. Bright bore w/ strong sharp rifling. (01-23909/RW). ANTIQUE. $300-500.
