MUSKET. Cal. .75. S# NSN. Bbl 39". Model F manufactured between 1845-1851. Lockplate is engraved with a lion holding a crown, with several British crowned proofs stamped ...moreon the barrel at the breech. Rear of trigger guard bears Hindi characters. Full length 1 piece smooth wood buttstock is stamped "12/ D/ 46" on the left side of the butt. Brass trigger guard, buttplate, ramrod ferrules, and nosecap. Iron ramrod. Rounded front sight with V-notch rear sight. CONDITION: iron components exhibit a mottled gray patina overall, with some scattered spots of pitting. Brass components exhibit a pleasing mellow patina. Stock exhibits scattered marks from handling and storage with some losses on the left hand side. (01-23720/MLW). ANTIQUE. $200-400.

MID-19th CENTURY PERCUSSION BRITISH EAST INDIA

COMPANY MUSKET WITH BAYONET. Cal. 75. NSN. Bbl. 39 1/4". Barrel has a simple front sight that doubles as a bayonet lug. The stationary rear sight is of bridge form. The l...moreock has a British East India Company lion in front of the cock. Heavy brass trigger guard with Nepalese markings & butt plate marked “32 REG”. Musket has 3 brass ramrod thimbles & a brass nose cap. The stock has a heavy stamp on the right side which appears to read “F 100 / 40”. Iron ramrod. The bayonet is a scarce Kukri shaped bayonet as used by Nepalese state troops. The blade is approx. 17” long and the socket is 4 1/8”. The top of the socket has several Sanskrit characters along with the BWI Co. heart symbol. The remainder of the bayonet socket has a crosshatched design. CONDITION: the barrel & lock have a dark, lightly mottled patina. The lock holds both full & half cock. The trigger guard & butt plate, as well as the thimbles & nose cap, have a mellow mustard patina. The stock shows great wear but no significant damage. Fair bore. The bayonet has an overall medium gray patina with light pitting on the blade. (01-23817/BF). $600-900.

Barrel appears to have been extended during the period, with the previous dovetail slot for the front sight having been filled in, closely followed by a band and terminating in a 2" round section of barrel at the muzzle. Barrel is marked "BONNERAVE & CHAPON. BEUNOS" (remainder of text is illegible) on the top flat, with "LEFAUCHEUX B/ ACIER FONDU" on the left flat. Belgian "(Crown)/ AF" proofs on frame with additional Belgian proofs on cylinder. CONDITION: metal components retain a mostly bare metal patina w/ some areas of darker mottled gray patina and areas of scattered pitting. Dark bore. Grips show smoothing and some scattered handling marks, but are otherwise sturdy and serviceable. (01-23624/MLW). ANTIQUE. $300-500.

UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: contemporary wood case containing contemporary components for reloading. CONDITION: metal components retain good amounts of their period blue finish exhibiting wear and thinning overall to a dark gray patina. Ver bright bore, exhibiting strong rifling throughout. US CIVIL WAR BELTS, BUCKLES & ACCOUTREMENTS.

Lot # 3120 (Sale Order: 120 of 461)      

This fine group includes a large “US” in oval buckle with spade hooks on a dyed white buff belt. Neither the belt or buckle are marked. The lot also has a M1851 sword...more belt plate on a black bridle leather belt. The belt has a Civil War cap box and a Civil War holster that is for an M1860 Colt Army revolver. Lastly, there is a M1855 bayonet with scabbard. The bayonet is marked on the ricasso “US”. The scabbard has an early brown buff leather belt loop with copper rivets. CONDITION: US belt shows light overall wear. M1851 belt shows light to moderate wear, but remains solid. Cap box has light wear. Holster has moderate wear with significant flexing. Bayonet has a light gray patina, and the scabbard remains quite solid. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18740/BF). $1,000-1,300.

QUARTER PLATE CIVIL WAR TINTYPE OF A WELL-ARMED

INFANTRY PRIVATE. A raw quarter plate size image of a standing enlisted infantryman wearing a 9-button frock coat & kepi. He holds a musket with bayonet in his right hand...more and wears an enlisted “US” oval belt & buckle with a large belt knife stuck in the belt. He has a cartridge box with over-the-shoulder sling featuring a round eagle buckle. A bayonet scabbard is on his left side. The backdrop is a forest & river scene. CONDITION: at one time the image was bent near the center, and some of the emulsion has peeled away but not affecting the soldier himself. Image is housed in a leucite holder. 1) A nice CDV image of an artillery enlisted man wearing a shell jacket with a M1851 sword belt plate & belt. He wears an 1840 light artillery sword that is partially vis...moreible. His feathered slouch hat beside him may be an adapted Hardee hat. The hat shows crossed cannons below the number “2” and has what appears to be an enlisted hat cord. The back mark reads “PHOTOGRAPHED BY TYLER, Easton, PA.” CONDITION: image remains quite crisp with only slight wear to the corners. Image is held in a lucite holder. 2) A good CDV image of a cavalry enlisted man wearing a shell jacket with a M1851 sword belt plate & belt. He wears an 1840 cavalry saber that is carried in his right hand. He wears his kepi that has no apparent insignia. The background is an artillery scene. There is no back mark. CONDITION: image remains quite clear with some minor discoloration & edge wear. Image is held in a lucite holder. 3) A nice CDV image of a cavalry enlisted man wearing a shell jacket with a M1851 sword belt plate & belt. He wears an 1860 cavalry saber that he rests his hands on. There is a Colt 1860 Army pistol tucked into his belt. The background is plain. There is no back mark. CONDITION: image remains quite clear with discoloration & edge wear. The reverse appears to have been glued into an album at some point in time and has residue on the back. Image is held in a lucite holder. 4) A fine CDV image of an artillery enlisted man wearing a shell jacket with a M1851 sword belt plate & belt. He wears an M1840 light artillery sword that is mostly visible. He has a holstered pistol on his belt. His headgear appears to be a non-regulation slouch hat. The background is an idyllic forest scene. The back mark reads “BOWDOIN, TAYLOR & CO. 204 King, Cor. Columbus Street, Alexandria, Va.” CONDITION: image remains crisp & clear with only slight wear to the corners. There is a very small tear in the bottom border that appears to be reinforced with archival tape. Image is held in a lucite holder. 5)An interesting CDV showing a bust view of a Civil War soldier who is likely Confederate. He wears a crushed slouch hat and has a pistol across his chest. There appears to be bullion decoration on his colored collar. The uniform has a cross belt with what appears to be an oval buckle. The back mark reads in part “G.B. Smith, 4th Street, Bristol, E. Tenn.” CONDITION: image has been trimmed at the base and has some small gouges to the image. The paper has yellowed some, but overall the image remains clear. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18656/BF). $400-600.

The shot is obviously made of scrap iron as the form is not refined. The iron surfaces have a heavy, early dark patina, but we cannot guarantee the age of this bar shot.
