CONDITION: good, with metal components retaining large amounts of their original finishes overall, exhibiting some wear and thinning to the hammer and trigger guard, with scattered handling marks and some minor losses to the nickel plating. Bore exhibits scattered areas of pitting and retains good rifling throughout. Grips show some scattered marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. (23-5151/MLW). Plain 1 3/4" wide, hand-forged blade with a slight curve. Iron hilt with a simple D-type guard & turned down quillon. The pommel is peened to the tang. 1-Piece grip appears to be walnut. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows evidence of cleaning & sharpening. The brass has a pleasing old patina. Grip shows numerous age cracks from drying. DIRK, & BOWIE SCABBARD. 1) Spear point knife produced by Slater Brothers in Sheffield, England. The ricasso is marked "VENTJR/ SLATER/ BROTHERS/ SHEFFIELD". The bright fi...morenished spear point blade measures 5 7/8" in length, with the knife measuring 10" in overall length. German silver crossguard with 2 piece bone handles, each retained via a single rivet at the top and bottom of the panels. One grip features a thin rectangular escutcheon. Brown leather sheath exhibits a crosshatched pattern overall with light gold colored embellishments, as well as German silver fittings. CONDITION: blade retains a bright exterior, exhibiting some scattered spots of mild oxidation and dark discoloration. Grip panels a light mellow patina, with some minor losses along the edges. Sheath exhibits areas of mild age related crazing, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. 2) Small dirk produced by George Wostenholm. The ricasso is marked "GEO.WOSTENHOLM", with "I.XL" on the reverse. The double edged blade measures 4 1/8" in length, with the dirk having an overall length of 7 7/8". German silver crossguard with rounded ends and 1 piece ivory grip. German silver sheath with belt loop and ball pattern drag. CONDITION: blade exhibits a gray patina, with scattered spots of light surface pitting and darker discoloration. German silver crossguard and sheath exhibit some tarnishing, but otherwise are good overall. Grip exhibits a crack that runs from the base to the crossguard, and also exhibits losses primarily around the ferrule. 3) Leather sheath for a Sheffield pattern bowie knife. Leather exhibits some gold colored embellishments and German silver fittings. CONDITION: sheath exhibits wear, crazing, and losses overall with an area of separation present on the forward spine. German silver fittings exhibit tarnishing. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18574/MLW). $400-600.

Overall length: 32 1/2". Blade length: 28”. Plain blade with a heavily raised ricasso. Iron hilt with a simple 2-branch guard and downturned quillon. Oval iron pommel cap...more with blade tang peened through. Large brass ferrule at the bottom of the shaped hardwood grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a heavily oxidized, dark finish, as does the hilt. Grip is a bit loose but remains complete and nearly undamaged. (02-20013/BF). $400-700.

This foot officer’s sword measures 37 1/4" overall with a blade length of 31 3/8”. The blade has a single medium fuller and is etched over 15” of the blade with various f...moreoliate & patriotic motifs, including a spray of arms & American eagle. Gilded brass hilt with a classical style guard featuring a central American eagle and a highly embellished knuckle bow. Small eagle pommel with grape leaf decorated ferrule & wire-wrapped grip. Gilded brass scabbard with foliate embellishments. Scabbard is engraved between the mounts “Capt. William J. Clark March 5 1847”. This sword is absolutely original; however, we do not guarantee the engraved personalization to be period. CONDITION: blade has a medium to dark patina with relatively clear etching. Hilt retains only traces of original gilding, but the wire wrap is complete. Scabbard has several shallow dents throughout. (02-20026/BF). $500-800.

Leather covered grip. Iron scabbard with oval frog stud. CONDITION: blade has a medium to dark mottled patina with several small nicks to the edge. Hilt is slightly misshaped. Grip is 93% intact. Scabbard has a black painted finish mixed with oxidation. (02-20051/BF). $500-750.

This foot officer’s sword measures 37 1/2" overall with a blade length of 31 1/2”. The blade has a single medium fuller and has gold highlighted etching on a blued field ...moreover 11 1/2" of the blade. Etching includes foliate motifs & sprays of arms. Gilded brass hilt with a Medusa head languet on the front. Plain guard with downturned, lightly embellished, cylindrical fuller. Highly embellished reverse P knuckle bow leads to a well-articulated eagle head pommel atop a plain backstrap. Grip is intricately carved bone. Gilded brass scabbard with foliate embellishments. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina with 80% of the blued field remaining, and 20% of the gold highlights. Hilt retains approx. 35% of its original gilded finish. Grips have a few tight age cracks. Scabbard retains traces of its original gilded finish and has a few minor shallow dents. (02-20052/BF). $600-900.
