SMITH & WESSON ARMY REVOLVER & HOLSTER, LT. JOHN M. TURNER, 2ND RHODE ISLAND VOLS. Cal. 32, S# 18956. Pictured on page 86 of John Hamilton's "Colt's History & Heroes" is ...moreone of a few Civil War S&W army revolvers. Standard configuration with 6" barrel, blue finish, varnished rosewood grips. 2-line engraved script presentation on backstrap: "Presented to 2nd Lieut. John M. Turner by the non 'com' / officers and privates of the 2nd RI Vols, Sept 2d, 1863". Revolver is accompanied by original holster also pictured in Hamilton's book. The sword is British all steel hilt decorated with crown over hunting horn, shark skin grip, 33" blade in steel scabbard. Inscribed on scabbard between ring mounts "PRESENTED TO / 2nd Lieut John M. Turner / by the Non Com Officers and Privates / of the 2nd Regiment R. I. Vols." John M. Turner (1834-1912) from Providence RI, entered service September 1861 in the commissary department, promoted to lieutenant September 1863, discharged June 1864, he married June 20th, 1864, living to 1912. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: file of research, and service records, and notes for upcoming article that was never published. CONDITION: fine overall, all matching serial and assembly numbers, retaining 60% original factory blue, retains virtually all original factory varnish. Mechanically fine, bright shiny rifled bore. Holster is sound & supple, missing finial. Sword sound solid, gray/bright steel surfaces, inscription well defined, solid shark skin grip with triple wire wrap intact. ATTRIBUTED TO LT. JOHANN STUBEN 58th OVI WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 32, S# 2094. This revolver is standard early production made late 1861, S# 2122 is last gun made 1861, 5" barr...moreel. Identification is made by portion of old ink tag paste it to belt loop of holster with a more recent transcription which appears original and reads: "Smith & Wesson revolver of Second Lieutenant Johann Steuben 58th Ohio volunteer infantry". Johan "John" Stuber (1838-1896) born in Switzerland, enlisted October 1, 1861 in Columbus, OH as corporal. Co. A, 58th OVI, promoted sergeant, November 1863, and 2nd lieutenant May 3, 1865. He was Mustered Out on 9/16/1865 at Vicksburg, MS. Lt. Stuber was run over by a "Clifton Electric Car" March 17, 1896 & died 3 days later from injuries sustained, buried in Cincinnati. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: file of research and service and pension records. CONDITION: good to very good overall, all matching, gray metal with traces of original blue finish, good markings, varnished rosewood grips are sound. Mechanically fine, good rifled bore. Mr. Bricker in his...more files, states there was a Navy officer sword that originally came with this revolver both attributed to Furbush. The accompanying holster has a naval button as a finial. Based on S#, this could not be Acting Ensign Furbush's pistol, as he died aboard the USS Tennessee in 1863, prior to pistols manufacture. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: file of research and service records. CONDITION: good overall, all matching, gray metal, good markings, rosewood grips are sound with moderate edge wear. Mechanically fine, good rifled bore. Accompanying holster fits revolver loosely. Hammer has hinged alteration or repair that was professionally performed during time of use. Grips retain much of their factory varnish with moderate to heavy edge wear. CIVIL WAR COLT 1849 REVOLVER INSCRIBED TO "RICHARD

RUSH, US NAVY". Cal .31, S# 190614/190503. Standard configuration of 1860 manufactured Colt pocket revolver, 4" octagon barrel, 1-line New York address. Professional scri...morept inscription on back strap: "Richard Rush USN". This rarely seen Civil War era naval associated officers revolver has survived in very attractive condition. Richard Rush (1848-1912) was lifetime naval officer and descendent of Colonial Philadelphian Benjamin Rush. He attending The US Naval Academy during the Civil War, and was taken into service as midshipman serving on the USS Marion which was involved in the pursuit of the Confederate ship Tallahassee 1863-1864. After the war midshipman Rush would return to the Naval Academy and graduate in 1867, retiring in 1899 as Lieutenant Commander. In 1911 he was commissioned on the retired list with rank of captain backdated to July 7th 1879. He died 1912 and is buried at Annapolis. Revolver is mixed serial number 190614 on barrel, frame, cyl, wedge, and cyl pin. Serial number 190503 is found on backstrap and trigger guard. Revolver appears to have been in this configuration since the Civil War. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: large file of research, including all service records. CONDITION: very good overall, metal overall gray, traces of blue and muted case colors, grips retain virtually all of their original bright factory varnish. Mechanically fine, bright crisp rifled bore. PROVENANCE: from the Lifelong Collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker. (01-24993/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.

CONDITION: fair to go...moreod overall, matching serial numbers on barrel, frame, trigger guard, cylinder, and back strap. Loading lever and wedge are replacements. Original one piece wood grips have remnants of original varnish. Mechanics need attention, cylinder does not index properly, muzzle face has seven notches cut in line with rifling grooves.
