Walnut stock has two clamping bands retained by springs. Ramrod retained by spring & has flat tip. Stock is marked on left panel w/ 4 faint cartouches of which only the "SWP" & "ESA" are legible. No markings are visible behind trigger guard. Buttplate marked "U.S." on tang. Two piece trigger guard. Sling swivels are mounted on the upper band & trigger guard bow. Period black leather sling w/ single hook & 2 sliding keepers marked "ROCK ISLAND". CONDITION: well worn stock w/ numerous handling marks has been cleaned w/ added finish. Flat lockplate w/ spread wing eagle marked "U.S. SPRINGFIELD 1873". 2 Click tumbler. Hammer is marked w/ "C" visible from left side of rifle. Walnut stock has single bbl. band retained by spring. Stock is marked on left side over trigger guard w/ boxed "SWP 1887". Buttplate w/out trap. Buttplate is drilled for cleaning rod. 1 Piece trigger guard. Trigger guard bow w/out swivel. CONDITION: stock set is well worn w/ numerous scratches and handling marks commensurate w/ long hard service but markings remain visible. Metal is worn w/ scattered areas of fine pitting plus retain traces of blue & case colors in protected areas. Bore is shiny w/ strong lands but areas of shallow pitting. (01-25347/RW). Bbl. is marked over the chamber with "A", "VP", and eagle head proof. Flat lockplate with "spread wing eagle" and "US SPRINGFIELD". Three-click tumbler. Rod bayonet measures 35 1/2" overall. Walnut stock with two bbl. bands. Stock is marked on the left side over the trigger guard with the boxed "SWP 1892". Faintly encircled script "P" proof under the grip. One-piece trigger guard. Trap buttplate. Stock is marked at the rear of the comb "38F" and on the right rear of the butt "69 /109". CONDITION: stock has an added dark finish over the original, leaving visible markings. Finish is well worn, with flaking, scratches, and handling marks. Metal is turning overall gray and patina with traces of blue and areas of light oxidation. TRAPDOOR SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 542902. Bbl 32 5/8". Model 1884 Trapdoor single-shot rifle manufactured by Springfield Armory. The lockplate is stamped with a ...morepatriotic eagle beside "U S/ SPRINGFIELD". The left side of the barrel is stamped with a "V/P" proof, above an eagle head, and a "P" proof mark. The stock is stamped "8/NY/107" on the top of the comb, with a near identical stamp present on the buttplate tang. Right side of the buttstock is lightly carved with "SB". Stock is stamped with what appears to be an "JWP" or "SWP" over 1892 cartouche on the left side. One-piece smooth wood buttstock. CONDITION: metal components exhibit a dark brown patina, with some spots of old oxidation overall. Very bright bore, exhibiting a couple scattered spots of pitting and retaining strong rifling throughout. Stock shows scattered marks and impressions from storage and handling, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (01-24138/MLW). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.

Bore exhibits dark pitting while retaining fair to good rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with the forend exhibiting a chip on either side of the breech as well as a crack on the right side at the breech and tip.
