Engraving is of the No. 6 style with vignette of a whitetail buck on the left side and a pointing setter on the right. Receiver forend cap and buttplate peak have 50 coverage of arabesque scroll with fancy borders. Top tang has straight line borders. Short rifle length 8 3/8" forearm pistol grip stock w/ ebony grip insert of XXX black walnut. Style H hand checkering crescent steel buttplate. Left inside of lower tang is stamped w/ assembly no. "186" wood grade marking "XXX". Top tang channel of stock inside toe of buttplate have matching assembly number "186". LOP: 14" as measured from line of trigger attachment to buttplate peak. DAC: 2 1/4". DAH: 3". Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked "-MA...moreNUFACTURED BY THE-/ -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" with the cal. designation stamped at the breech. Upper receiver tang is marked with the model designation with the lower tang being stamped with patent information. Metal components exhibit a blue finish. Plain American walnut straight grip buttstock with crescent buttplate and smooth wood handguard. Buttstock and handguard have been revarnished at one time. Front sight has been replaced with a Lyman blade front sight bead no longer present with an unmarked aftermarket V-notch rear sight. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Museum letter indicating that this example was received in the warehouse on October 6th of 1887 and was shipped with 54 other arms Order Number: 24405 that same day. CONDITION: receiver lever buttplate and forend cap exhibiting a mottled gray patina with scattered areas of light to moderate pitting present overall. Bbl. and mag. tube exhibit wear and thinning overall with areas of wear showing through to a pleasant brown patina. Bright bore exhibiting moderate pitting and retaining good rifling throughout. ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-90. S 72242. Bbl. 24 1/8". Model 1886 lever action rifle originally mfg. by Winchester in 1893 and later customized by renowned Maine gunsmith Bill ...moreMorrison. The rnd. replacement bbl. is marked with the cal. designation and "MORRISON/ BRADFORD MAINE" at the breech. Upper receiver tang is marked "-MODEL 1886-" with patent information and the S marked on the lower tang. Receiver lever hammer and buttplate exhibit a professionally reapplied case color hardened finish with the bbl. mag. tube and forend cap loading gate and bolt assembly exhibiting a blue finish. Smooth wood straight grip buttstock and forend appear to have been lightly sanded and revarnished. German silver blade front sight with U-notch rear sight. Left side and underside of mag. tube appear to have been deliberately etched with a zig zag pattern. CONDITION: excellent as professionally customized and refinished with case colored components retaining the majority of their vibrant case color hardened finish exhibiting some mild wear and fading on the underside of the receiver and lever. Blued components retain bountiful amounts of their reapplied finish exhibiting some light wear and some scattered superficial handling marks as well as the aforementioned zig zag pattern on the mag. tube. Brilliant mirror bore exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. A very nice example of a quality custom Model 1886 lever action rifle by Maine gunsmith Bill Morrison. 01-25235/MLW. ANTIQUE. 1200-1800.

ACTION SRC. Cal. 44 WCF 44-40. S 971597. Bbl. 20". Replacement pinned blade front sight w/ carbine leaf rear sight. Action has full coverage engraving w/ gold inlays by m...moreaster engraver Neil Hartliep. The late Neil Hartliep was a self taught engraver guest instructor at Trinidad Colorado State college beginning in 1979 and later instructed with the NRA Gunsmithing Schools Program. In 1985 he was the author of "The Basics of Firearm Engraving" an NRA Education and Training Publication. Right side of receiver features a raised gold inlaid pronghorn antelope and bison. Left side features a gold inlaid horse drawn stagecoach. Scenes are surrounded by vine type foliate scroll w/ punch dot backgrounds. Engraving continues to upper and lower receiver areas breech end of barrel barrel bands and buttplate peak. Sides of action and lever are highlighted by gold wire inlaid borders. Breech end of bbl. has a gold band. Custom forearm and carbine stock using original buttplate are made of burl figure fancy black walnut w/ satin finish. This beautiful rifle is pictured on pages 1 102 and 106 of the NRA Gunsmiths Schools Training Manual. Mfg. 1927. CONDITION: near excellent as upgraded retaining virtually all custom blue and wood finish. Bright near excellent bore. 24-1984/DS. CURIO. 6000-8000.

Blue finis...morehed w/ case colored hammer lever buttplate. Replacement 8 1/4" trapper style forearm. Replacement straight grip stock w/ steel carbine buttplate. Mfg. 1907. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letter from the Cody Firearms Records Office detailing the following information "Serial number applied on January 25 1908 / Configuration records not available". CONDITION: beautifully restored carbine . Over 95 blue showing edge wear marks on action. 97 case colors showing edge wear. Markings are recut. Wood has very good open grain finish. Full length mag. 7 3/8" short rifle forearm...more 2" shorter than standard. Right side of stock has painted marking that is hard to read. Straight grip walnut stock w/ crescent steel buttplate. Mfg. 1906. CONDITION: metal has faded to brown showing heavy wear scattered pitting. Replacement rear sight is reblued. Wood has added finish over dents handling marks. TAKEDOWN LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 38 WCF. S 16416. Bbl. 24 1/4". Model 1892 takedown lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1892.Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marke...mored "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/ -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" with "38 W.C.F." marked at the breech. Upper receiver tang is marked "MODEL 1892./ -WINCHESTER-/ PAT.OCT.14.1884." with the S marked on the underside of the receiver. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Plain wood straight grip buttstock with crescent buttplate and plain wood forend. Full length mag. tube with German silver blade front sight and V-notch semi-buck horn rear sight. CONDITION: metal components retain good amounts of their original factory blue finish exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to pleasing gray and brown patinas as well as scattered spots of mild surface oxidation overall. Bore exhibits moderate pitting while retaining good rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions overall from handling and storage but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. Buttstock exhibit a notable chip and crack at the toe. A nice example of first year production Winchester Model 1892 takedown lever action rifle. 01-25404/MLW. ANTIQUE. 1750-2750.

Left side of replacement bbl. is marked with Winchester's mfg....more and patent information followed by the cal. designation at the breech with "-MODEL 92-" and the Winchester trademark logo on the right. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Plain wood straight grip buttstock and forend. Blade front sight with ladder rear sight. Half length mag. tube with saddle ring mounted on left of receiver. CONDITION: original metal components retain traces of their original factory blue finish exhibiting brown and gray patinas with light surface oxidation overall. Bbl. retains bountiful amounts of its blue finish showing some scattered handling marks and light wear. Brilliant mirror bore exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered dings and impressions with the underside of the forend exhibiting a gouge but otherwise remaining sturdy and serviceable. 24-1658/MLW. CURIO. 1200-1800.
