PHENOMENAL MAUSER C96 CONEHAMMER, WITH MATCHING

STOCK, CASED. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 450. Bbl 5 1/2". One of the earliest Conehammers, to have the standard three address on top of the chamber, still with the nonreinforced bar...morerel extension and a stock whose matching serial number was applied to the hinge and lid. This extraordinary example has the usual 5.5" barrel with a fixed front sight and a pinned rear sight numbered "1-10". Long extractor, independently secured firing pin, and earliest safety. Crown/C/U on the left side of the barrel extension. The full serial number is on the frame above the stock slot, repeated under the sight bar and cursor. Disassembly shows an entirely matching gun, with an unnumbered, but inspected locking block. Both grips are fully matching. Lanyard ring is present. Accompanied by a matching shoulder stock with serial number on hinge and on lid under tensioning spring. Lug was not removed. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: ensemble presented in a custom wood case, lid inlaid with a brass plaque marked with intertwined initials, likely "TG", interior green baize lined, French fitted for pistol in stock, putzstock (not included), and two slots for 2 boxes of ammunition (only one sealed box of ammunition included). Key not included. CONDITION: pistol with 99% bright original rust blue, a few speckles of oxidation at the muzzle, some fine dings on the forward magazine well, and the usual stock wear on the backstrap. Highly polished fire blued small parts in the same condition. Varnished grips retaining almost all the finish, the left panel with a noticeable dent at the top. Near mirror bore. Perfect manual mechanics. Excellent shoulder stock retaining most original finish with scattered handling dings. Hinge with noticeable oxidative flaking, no suggestion of touch up. Lug retaining the majority of its original fire blue. Near excellent custom case, interior with staining and minor tears. EARLY STOCK. Cal. 7.63mm S# 360. Bbl 5 1/2". Exceptionally early Mauser C96 with hand inscribed "SYSTEM/ MAUSER" on chamber with era correct shoulder stock. Exact pistol ...morefeatured in the classic reference text System Mauser by Breathed & Schroeder, mentioned and photographed on pages 32, 33! Standard 10-shot pistol with fixed front sight and tangent rear sight graduated 1-10. Long extractor, independently secured firing pin, and earliest style safety, this example with an extended head. Left side of barrel extension with Crown/C/U marking. Early frame milling that does not include island in rearmost panel. Full serial number "360" on upper backstrap with serial number repeated on sight bar and cursor. Disassembly shows all matching numbers including the replacement floorplate, transfer bar, sear, sear spring, subframe, and locking lever. Follower, bolt stop, and firing pin retainer are unnumbered. Original serrated walnut grips, matching, with scriptic "A" inspector proofs. Lanyard ring is present. Accompanied by an original Conehammer shoulder stock serial number "727" applied to the hinge and lid with an externally unnumbered lug. RETAILER MARKED. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 6991 Bbl 4 3/4". Mauser made very few 6-shot Conehammers, this fixed sight example in the usual range as referenced in the classic text S...moreystem Mauser. Standard features include a long extractor, independently secured firing pin, earliest variation safety. Frame slotted for stock. Chamber with three line address. Crown/C/U/ on left side of barrel extension. Antler proof on right side. External serial numbers are all matched to "6991". The left frame is roll marked "WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co.". Disassembly shows all matching internal numbers including the locking block, subframe, transfer bar, bolt, and firing pin. The full serial number is inscribed on the inner surface of both panels. Lanyard loop is present. CONDITION: 95% original rust blue with sharp edge wear and fading in the usual places, particularly on the front and back straps. Comparable condition fire blued parts, showing no suggestion of enhancement. Grips oil stained, darkened, with scattering of light handling marks. Bright bore, light etching, sharp rifling. Antler proof on right side. Standard frame with central island in left rear panel. All external numbers matched to the serial number including the firing pin retainer and bolt stop. Disassembly shows a fully matching pistol including the follower, floorplate, subframe, locking block, transfer bar. Inspected but unnumbered sear and locking lever. Grips, with replacement screw and enlarged escutcheons, are original and fully matching. Lanyard ring present. Accompanied by a correct Conehammer stock with lug number "1049". CONDITION: VG with handling wear consistent with light use except for front/back straps that are toned and etched. Small parts with original fire blue with age appropriate fading, no suggestion of touch up. Oil darkened grips with scattered handling dings, no splits. Three line address on chamber, with Crown/C/U on left side of barrel extension. Antler proofing on right side of extension. All external serial numbers matching including sight bar, cursor, and bolt stop. Disassembly shows matching follower, floorplate, subframe, locking block, transfer bar, firing pin, and both grip panels. Lanyard ring present. Complete with Conehammer stock with lug number "13723". CONDITION: very good to very good plus original blue, with expected wear from moderate use, particularly around forward magazine well, with superficial spotting on right side of barrel. Comparable condition fired blued small parts, showing no suggestion of enhancement. Grips with much original finish, superficial scattered handling marks, and oil related darkening. Bright bore, with shallow rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. VG+ stock, no cracks, with most original finish. Hinge and lug with flecks of oxidation, most finish from face of lug having faded. Mauser made relatively few Large Ring Transitional pistols that were serial numbered in the Conehammer range & assembled using a number of...more Conehammer parts, including the bolt & frame. This gun, one of the first, has a 5.5" bbl. with a fixed front sight & a pinned rear sight graduated from 50-500. Long extractor, independently secured firing pin, early variation safety. The usual Mauser address on top of chamber. Crown/“C”/“U” marking on left side of bbl. extension; antler proof on the right side. The full serial number is on the back of the frame & repeated on the all the usual major & minor parts, including sight bar, firing pin, locking block & each of the grip panels. After export to England, the gun was British proofed with the test information applied to the left side of the bbl., additional British proofing on the left frame, just above & below the subframe lug. Fitted with serrated walnut grips. Non-factory lanyard ring. Major components are rust blued. Most of the small parts are fire blued or in-the-white. CONDITION: approx. 90% original rust blue with fading around the bbl., front of the mag. well, & grip straps. Comparable condition fire blued parts that show no evidence of enhancement. Grips retain much of their original varnish / oil staining, over handling marks. Dull bore w/ easily discernible rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. SCARCE MAUSER C96, EARLY TRANSITIONAL LARGE RING,

BRITISH MILITARY ACCEPTED WITH SHOULDER STOCK. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 12442. This is an example of Mauser's earliest Large Ring pistols that were assembled using Conehammer bolt...mores and frames, later accepted for use by the British military. The pistol has a 5.5" bbl. w/ a fixed front sight & a pinned 50-500 graduated rear sight. Long extractor, early safety & independently secured firing pin. Top of chamber has the usual Mauser address. Crown/"C"/"U" on left side of bbl. extension; antler proof on right. Full S# is on back of frame. Upon British issue, the left side of the bbl. extension was impressed w/ a pair of bracketing broad arrow markings; British broad arrow acceptance and issue markings are on either side of the barrel extension. Major components rust blued. Most sm. parts fire blued; bolt, hammer, trigger & subframe are in the white. Detailed disassembly shows nearly all the usual parts matched w/ either full S# or last few digits including firing pin, locking block & each of the serrated wood panels. Floorplate is numbered "8951". Lanyard ring present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: accompanied by a later era Mauser banner shoulder stock w/ lug numbered "464". CONDITION: overall very good, w/ handling marks & fading blue, especially on bbl., front of mag. well & front strap, commensurate w/ a pistol that has seen moderate field use. Comparable spotting & wear of the fire blued parts, sight bar having been cleaned along its graduations. Grips with dark oil staining and a scattering of handling marks. Generally bright bore w/ oxidation/roughness in grooves, easily discernable rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. Good stock w/ carrier related discoloration, numerous handling marks, 3" crack at upper spine extending into grip cutout. Hinge & lug w/ considerable oxidation. Pistol fits well in stock, lid closing, but lug will need fitting as it will not fully enter the slot. (01-22328/LMA). ANTIQUE. $3,500-5,500.

The usual Mauser address on top of chamber. Crown/”C”/”U” marking on left side of bbl. extension; antler proof on the right side. Left side of frame is marked "VL&D / NEW YORK". The full serial number is on the back of the frame & repeated on the all the usual major & minor parts, including sight bar, firing pin, locking block & each of the grip panels. Fitted with serrated walnut grips. Factory lanyard ring. Major components are rust blued. Most of the small parts are fire blued or in the white. CONDITION: approx. 95% rust blue, the bbl. / extension having been recoated with rust blue along with the floorplate. Original blue on the frame & original fire blue on the small parts whose condition matches that of the frame. Grips with much of the original varnish, oil darkened, with scattered handling marks. Slightly dull bore with easily discernable rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. A nice & all matching example of the seldom encountered Late Large Ring Transitional C96. (22-3145/LMA). Long extractor, single lug firing pin, large ring hammer, earliest type safety. Chamber with three line address. Full SN on left chamber flat. Crown/C/U on left side of barrel extension. Antler proof on right side. Unmarked frame except for the full serial on back strap. External numbers fully matched to the last few digits of the SN including the sight bar and cursor. Disassembly shows matching numbers on the floorplate, follower, transfer bar, sear, locking block, and firing pin. Grips could not be removed as screw escutcheon for threaded portion rotates freely within the hard rubber recess. Accompanied by an era correct shoulder stock, lid notched for the large ring, personalized with "J. RUDGE" on the hinge, lug SN "22969". CONDITION: 97%-98% bright original finish, including grip straps, with altered front sight as previously noted. Fire blued parts with age appropriate speckling and sharp edge wear. Most original straw remaining on trigger. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. VG stock with oil darkening and scattered handling dings, lid with small hairline crack in front of large ring recess and internal marring, hinge and lug in same general condition showing no touch up. Minimal wobble when attached to pistol. An extremely fine and attractive Flatside, even better when accompanied by the period stock! (22-3137/MLW). CURIO. $5,000-8,000.

This example is an otherw...moreise standard configuration pistol with a 5.5" barrel, fixed front sight, and slip-in rear sight graduated 50-1000. Short extractor, two lug firing pin, small ring hammer, standard safety. Three line address on chamber with full serial number on left chamber flat. Crown/C/U on left side of barrel extension. Two line address on right side of frame. All external numbers are matched to the full serial number that is repeated on the back of the subframe and frame. Disassembly shows a fully matching pistol to include the floorplate, locking block, sear, and each of the grip panels. As true for most 9mm Export pistols and a number in 9mmP, the follower has a feeding groove. Lanyard ring present. Accompanied by a military accepted shoulder stock originally fitted for a Red-9, repair around lid release button, having hinge with no loop, and lug numbered "227". CONDITION: overall VG with approximately 85% original blue, early toning of the barrel with expected use related wear and some spotting on the right side of the barrel extension. Excellent original fire blue on the extractor, cursor, and bolt stop, the trigger having faded to a yellowish gray in the areas of usual contact. Comparable condition grips with oil discoloration, scattered dings, and a few patches of losses. Bright bore with sharp rifling. V-VG stock that has been refinished, repaired around the button as previously noted, with most of the fire blue from the hinge and lug having faded to a gray. A rare opportunity to own a Pre-War Commercial pistol in an extremely scarce caliber, with a later era Red-9 stock you can use for a different pistol! (22-3143/LA). CURIO. $2,000-4,000.

Complete with Bolo stock, lid not notched for large ring, whose lug is numbered "590". CONDITION: near excellent with better than 95% original rust blue, sharp edge wear and fading in expected areas of handling. Small parts G-VG with significant blue having faded from the extractor. Most original straw remaining on trigger. Serrated grips with oil darkening and light, scattered handling marks. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. VG stock with 3.5" hairline crack, neatly repaired and barely visible, along spine. Hinge and lug with considerable toning. Excellent fit to pistol, with minimal wobble. DOCUMENTED MAUSER BROOMHANDLE, LARGE RING,

SHALLOW MILLED, TARGET MODIFIED, MATCHING STOCK. Cal. 9mm Para. S# 31186. Bbl 5 1/2". This exact pistol is described and pictured on pages 86 and 87 of System Mauser by B...morereathed Schroeder (book not included). As an early Large Ring Shallow Milled pistol, reported examples in the serial range, 30300-31200, it has a 5.5" barrel and a slip in rear sight graduated from 50-1000. Long extractor, single lug firing pin, large ring hammer, early safety. Three line address on chamber and full serial number on the left chamber flat. Crown/C/U marking on the left side of the barrel extension. Antler proof on right. Imported by VON LENGERKE/ & DETMOLD/ NEW-YORK" on the left side of the frame. The full serial number is repeated on the subframe and frame with the last three digits in the usual locations on all external parts. Disassembly shows a fully matching pistol to include the follower, floorplate, firing pin, transfer bar, sear, and both hard rubber grip panels, each inscribed with the full serial number. Lanyard ring is present. The gun was later customized by inserting a slip in/then pinned ivory bead front sight and an additional screw in blade to the rear sight with exaggerated ears. Rechambering to 9mmP was marked on the left chamber flat "9MM". Accompanied by a factory matching shoulder stock whose body has been recessed to accommodate the ears of the added sight blade, the lid properly notched for the large ring hammer. CONDITION: approximately VG with the pistol retaining about 85% original rust blue, sharp edge wear and thinning in expected areas, particularly the forward base of the magazine well and front/back straps. Comparable condition fire blue, showing no enhancement, with noticeable spotting of the bolt stop. The trigger with most of its original straw. Hard rubber grips with blunted checkering, no splits or external losses, the left panel having an internal loss around the grip screw hole. Mirror bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. G-VG stock with much of its original finish, having several repaired cracks along the spine buttressed by six pins. An additional pin in the lid to repair the usual crack forward of the large ring hammer. Most of the blue remaining on the hinge while the upper arm of the lug has largely faded to gray. An extremely unusual pistol with period modifications, possibly by the retailer, a great bonus to be highlighted in the classic book, System Mauser! (22-3086/LA). CURIO. $4,500-6,500.

This exact pistol is pictured and described on pages 98,99 of System Mauser, by Breathed & Schroeder. Fixed front sight and tangent rear sight graded from 100-1000. Fitted with sight bar whose channel extends into fixation lug and grooved cursor as customarily found on carbines. Three line address on chamber, with full serial number on left flat. Left side of barrel extension marked Crown/C/U. Right side with antler proof. Right side of frame with two line Mauser address. Fitted with black hard rubber floral grips. Lanyard ring present. All external numbers matched to serial number. Disassembly showing fully matched numbers including follower, floorplate, sear, transfer bar, sear, locking lug, firing pin, and each of the grips with a fully scribed serial number on their internal surface. Accompanied by a nicely executed reproduction stock fitted with an original lug numbered "086". CONDITION: G-VG original condition with spots of oxidation, particularly on each side of the barrel, front and right side of magazine well as imaged. Comparably fire blued small parts that show no suggestion of touch up. Near excellent floral grips without cracks. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. Reproduction stock near new with VG+ lug. The right side of the frame bears Mauser's manufacturer information, with is also present on the top flat of the chamber. Left side of receiver bears a double Crown/U commercial proof, with a small Imperial German military proof stamped on the right. Major metal components exhibit a rust blued finish, with some smaller components being polished in-the-white or nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2 piece grooved red "9" grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, floorplate, barrel/receiver, bolt, bolt stop, as well as the grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: original wood stock unit marked "P.K.185." on the rear of the lid, as well as a brown leather stock harness stamped "GUSTAV REINHARDT/ BERLIN/ 1917" on the rear. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some spots of mild wear and thinning overall, as well as some scattered marks from handling and storage and some spots of mild surface oxidation. Bolt shows some areas of dark discoloration, but otherwise is good. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting some extremely light pinprick spots of pitting and well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some scattered marks and minor impressions, but are otherwise very good. Stock has been sanded and oiled at one time and exhibits a crack at the lid release button. Leather harness remains malleable and exhibits areas of age related cracking. Front pouch shows some separation of the stitching on the right side, with small hole at the base of the cleaning rod provision, appearing to be a result of rubbing. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Imperial German proofed wood stock holster, with some faint carving on the side, with legible characters reading "Aust". CONDITION: major metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting mild wear and thinning overall that shows through to a gray patina. Bright bore, exhibiting moderate pitting and strong rifling throughout. Grips show some scattered marks and minor impressions from storage and handling, but are otherwise very good. Usual 5.5" barrel having fixed front sight and slip-in rear sight graded 50-1000. Short extractor, two lug firing pin, small ring hammer, universal safety. Three line Mauser address over chamber. Crown/C/U on left chamber flat. Full serial number on left side of barrel extension. Fat Mauser banner on left frame in rear panel panel. Right side of frame with three line address referencing company and location. Disassembly shows the pistol to be matching (barrel extension, frame, subframe, and floorplate) except for the bolt that is number "0294". Bolt stop is a replacement and magazine follower is reblued. Lanyard ring is not present. Accompanied by a correct, unnumbered Mauser banner stock whose late production lug has sharp corners. CONDITION: VG+ bright original blue with scattered oxidative speckling, especially around the barrel and the front of the magazine well, with little blue remaining on the front and back straps. Dark grips with considerable oil staining, the right panel chipped at the top right corner. Bright bore, minor oxidation, sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. VG stock, no cracks, with scattered handling marks. Hinge and lug with oxidative discoloration. A nice, moderately priced ensemble! (22-3169/LA). CURIO. $1,800-3,000.

Unusual Chinese copy of a Wartime Standard Commercial C96 with 5.5" barrel, fixed front sight, tangent rear sight (...moremissing cursor) graduated 2-14. This exact pistol is pictured on page 220 of System Mauser, by Breathed & Schroeder. Long extractor (missing), two lug firing pin, safety as found on the Wartime Standard Commercial Mausers, thin trigger. Top of chamber with three line Mauser reference, one line upside down, several misspellings. Crown/C/U on left chamber flat. Full serial number "04875" on left side of barrel extension and repeated on back of frame and bolt. Bolt stop, missing large fraction, has remaining portion stamped with the number "5". Right side of frame with two line Mauser address, replete with other misspellings. Lanyard ring present. Disassembly shows most small parts matched to the first two digits of the SN, in this case "04", with obvious hand fitting. Follower spring is missing a segment. Grips internally unnumbered though the left panel marked with "04", at the bottom. CONDITION: metal with a blue/gray/brown toning, generously good, as typical for most Chinese pistols that were used hard and put away wet. As mentioned, the extractor and cursor are missing. Dull bore with shallow rifling. Proper manual mechanics. Truly a one of a kind C96, especially nice in having been pictured in the classic text "System Mauser". (22-3173/LA). CURIO. $1,000-2,000.

Cal. 7.63mm. S# 9450. Bbl 5 1/2". Chinese Warlord era C96 made by Hanyang Arsenal, in Wuhan, nicely marked characters on right frame, along with year “15” translating...more to 1926. Standard configuration C96 with a 5.5” barrel having front sight on barrel band (as typical for Hanyang made C96s). Slip-in rear sight marked 50-1000. Short extractor, single lug firing pin. Six Chinese characters on right side of frame (referencing factory and production year), with additional Chinese characters on the left side of the barrel extension (referencing bureau use). Serrated wood grips, the left panel having had its forward edge shaved for a better grip. No lanyard ring. Disassembly showing all matching numbers including the firing pin and each of the grips. Complete with an unmarked Chinese shoulder stock, later era and for a different pistol, with a sheet metal lug and exaggerated plunger. CONDITION: overall good with approximately 50% original blue the balance having faded to a brown gray. Fire blued small parts in comparable condition. Grips oil darkened, the left panel having been after-market recessed, as previously mentioned. Dull bore with easily discernible rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. Comparable condition stock with metal components largely oxidized to a gray brown. Considerable wobble when attached to pistol. One of relatively few Chinese C96s built in a recognized arsenal. WONDERFUL KRIEGHOFF "S" CODE LUGER WITH MATCHING

MAGAZINE. Cal. 9mm. S# 4018. Bbl 4”. Krieghoff is the most coveted trademark for the majority of Luger collectors. This “S” code was made in 1936 and was one of the...more last examples to have the chamber marked “S”, before Krieghoff changed to the “36” date. Standard 4” barrel with drift adjustable front sight, fixed V-notch rear sight on rear toggle. Forward toggle with the usual “H/K” logo over “KRIEGHOFF/ SUHL”. Full serial number on left side of barrel extension, repeated under the barrel and forward frame. Small parts matched to the last few digits of the serial number. The majority of the pistol was finished in salt blue; takedown lever, trigger, safety lever were strawed; magazine release button and grip screws were fire blued. Fitted with the dark chocolate plastic grips. Nickel plated magazine with aluminum plug marked with the matching serial number and Eagle/2 acceptance. Disassembly shows all parts with matching serial numbers and acceptances in appropriate locations, except for the toggle pin whose markings are not discernible. Original grips were too tightly stuck to the frame to safely remove. Matching magazine. CONDITION: approximately 95-97% bright original blue with sharp edge wear and fading in expected areas for a pistol that has seen light military use. Comparable condition grips and magazine whose plug shows no suggestion of removal/enhancement. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. A scarce, early, and fully matching Krieghoff that is seldom offered for sale (23-4741/LA). CURIO. $9,000-14,000.
