Although this piece was identified as a WWII Japanese Navel submarine pennant, there i...mores a possibility it may be an extremely large signal flag for the number 1. Its size, however, would seem to preclude this possibility. A Hinomaru style flag w/ red circle on a white field of a type generally used on submarines. Rope halyards w/ reinforced corners. The header is stenciled w/ 3 Japanese characters & "1". CONDITION: 1 halyard is full length, the other has been cut. Flag body is quite solid & shows little discoloration or staining. (02-12913/BF). $400-600.
