REMINGTON RAND 1911 A1 SEMI AUTO PISTOL.

Lot # 1393 (Sale Order: 397 of 693)

Cal. 45 ACP. S# 79. Date of mfg. unknown but probably late war. Ref. Clawson “Colt .45 Service Pistols” page 313. Another series of non-deliverable pistols was assembled ...morethat had the “ERRS” serial number prefix. All of the observed ERRS pistols had one or two digit serial numbers, indicating that there were less than 100 produced. Most texts describe this series of pistols as being used for various experiments to improve the product. While the standard explanation is that Remington was experimenting with different finishes, etc. These pistols may have been used as vehicles to test new machining techniques, new tooling, and improved processes such as one would do with a trial lot. The “Experimentation” notion is a bit of a stretch because the pistol specifications called out the exact finishing process (Parkerization) that is required on all pistols. Wide, serrated ramp front sight. Flat rear sight w/ square notch. Flat side checkered hammer. Long tang grip safety. Serrated mainspring housing w/ lanyard loop. Serrated slide stop. Mag. catch, thumb safety, trigger & recoil spring plug are checkered. Hammer pin, sear pin & mag. catch are black. All other parts show gray /green parkerizing. Slide left shows Type 3 marking “REMINGTON RAND INC.” over “SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A.”. Right side marked only w/ S#. Stocks are Keyes Fibre w/ escutcheon rings around screws. Left bbl. lug marked "P". Marked "HS" on right lug. MAGS: 1 Little 7 rd. w/ welded base in excellent condition. CONDITION: stocks & stock screws in pristine condition. Mag. catch lock pristine. Right side only loss seen is on edges. Left side of slide only wear is on edges. Receiver shows slight loss on edges of dust cover. Moderate takedown scratch. Some mottling on front grip strap. Mainspring housing shows a few spots of corrosion. Bbl. shows erosion of finish to ejection port. Shiny bore w/ very slight frosting near chamber. Overall 98% plus original gray / green parkerizing. PROVENANCE: From the Craig Baravalle Collection of Big Flats, New York. (18-4554/KK). CURIO. $5,000-8,000.
