COMMERCIAL FN MODEL 1903 SEMI AUTO PISTOL W/

Lot # 1220 (Sale Order: 222 of 693)

STOCK. Cal. 380 ACP. S# 35510. Bbl. 5”. This interesting blowback design FN Browning patent pistol is one of the rarer examples w/ the smallest production run of any FN B...morerowning pistol. Production ceased around 1928 w/ approximately 54,000 mfg. The FN Browning 1903 was developed w/ the intent to appeal to the military market however few contracts were produced. The largest number of military examples were procured by Sweden who favored the pistol’s reliability in extreme conditions. The design was also not very successful on the commercial market likely due to the large size & relative lateness to enter the market. The slotted feature was only available on a very small percentage of pistols. It was a feature that was not of John Browning's original design rather an attempt by FN to compete w/ Mauser & Luger designs. Many of the pistols when imported into the US were converted to 380 ACP from the original 9 mm Browning long cartridge due to the difficulty w/ acquiring the caliber in the US. This pistol features fixed sights, grip safety, lanyard ring, high polish rust blue finish, stock slot & checkered hard rubber FN monogram grips. The stock is an original model 1903 stock numbered 1160 w/ leather strap. There is a repair where front grip strap of pistol would meet the stock when holstered. The magazine that accompanies this firearm is the standard 7 rd. This lot does not include the extended 10 round mag needed when the firearm has stock mounted. MAGS: 1 - 7 rd. unnumbered. CONDITION: all matching numbers. Overall very good metal finish retaining approximately 90% original rust blue w/ some muzzle/holster high edge wear. Metal also shows scattered minor handling marks heaviest on front & back straps. Front sight has been altered. Very good grips w/ a few scattered handling marks & light wear to checkering. Right grip panel has chip in top right corner & very bottom. Very good bore w/ light frosting & sharp rifling. Very good stock shows numerous handling marks & small dents w/ a few moderate gouges. Stock iron retains 80% rust blue w/ high edge wear & scattered handling marks. (19-5018/ZAL). CURIO. $2,000 – 4,000.
