EXTREMELY RARE PORTUGUESE CONTRACT FN 1939 MACHINE

Lot # 1075 (Sale Order: 76 of 693)

GUN PARTS KIT. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 239. Bbl. 25". An extremely rare example in the FN Browning family. The Modele 1932 was redesigned in an aircraft configuration for the...more country of Portugal where the cyclic rate was increased even higher than normal. During 1938 Monsieur Saive called for an additional design change to increase the rate of fire to 1500 rpm. This was even higher than his original redesign in 1932 where he increased the cyclic rate to 1200 rpm. It necessitated utilizing a larger booster and the buffer was redesigned from the vertical configuration utilizing fiber disks to a horizontal style that was fitted w/ a much stronger coil spring. Due to the increased cyclic rate it was necessary to retain as much receiver strength as possible, so less milling occurred in comparison to the lightened 1932 model. FN machine guns were typically built w/ 1 set of bottom plate trunnions but would be built w/ 2 by special order. This example is equipped w/ remote firing trigger mechanism, possibly designated capot (fixed) variation. Set up in a left hand feed / left hand cocking, configuration the intricate bolt can be converted to right hand feed. Black painted finish throughout all exposed metal surfaces, this kit appears to be complete except for the right side plate. Left side plate markings "FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE HERSTAL-BELGIQUE 1939". Rear top plate marked w/ Republic of Portugal crest. This specimen incorporates dual rear trunnions. CONDITION: black painted exterior exhibits a few light marks. Clean bore w/ well pronounced rifling. PROVENANCE: Mark Genovese Collection. (02-12981/JZ). NON GUN. $1,800-2,800.

BELT FED WATER COOLED MG38 SEMI AUTO VARIANT.

Lot # 1076 (Sale Order: 77 of 693)

Cal. 8mm. S# 070541. Bbl. 24". A one of a kind beautiful & rare example of the Colt MG38 painstakingly built over several years utilizing an absolute "Who's Who" of the c...moreivilian & military firearms brain trust. A Black Bear side plate & primary control group are at the heart of this build & partner in numerous upgrades to complete the project. At a distance it may be the deep rich bluing contrast w/ matte brass parts that first catch your attention but on closer examination the details start to jump out, differentiating this from the much more common 1917A1. One inch brass fittings secured w/ chained caps on the water jacket allow attachment if desired to a hand operated water circulating unit. With a steel end cap & trunnion, both cloth belts or metallic links are suitable for feeding. Fully adj. ladder aperture rear sight graduated from 100 to 2800 meters w/ 80 degrees of windage adjustment. The beautiful M35 tripod proudly displays a brass plate & serial numbered "658" & may be adjusted to fire either upright or prone. The cradle allows a wide range of movement & is graduated in artillery mils w/ an elevation screw for fine adjustment. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: appropriate leather tool pouch. 2 Custom manufactured wooden storage/transport crates; 1 for gun, 1 for tripod. Vol. 7, No. 7 (April, 2004) issue of "Small Arms Review" magazine featuring an autographed article on this firearm. A framed studio portrait of this gun commissioned by the author. 3 T-shirts depicting images of an MG38. CONDITION: bluing is dark & rich w/ complete coverage on all components. All moving parts are smooth & function correct when cycled by hand. This gun like several others from this collection are as comfortable on display in their condition & care as they are on the firing line as functional historical artwork. Bore is bright & shiny w/ well defined rifling. PROVENANCE: Mark Genovese collection. (19-3291 & 02-12601-1/JZ). MODERN. $7,000-11,000.

COLT 1928 WATER COOLED SEMI AUTO VARIANT.

Lot # 1077 (Sale Order: 78 of 693)

Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 280793 Bbl. 24". All matching S#s. Absolutely beautiful Colt commercial 1928 water cooled gun preserved as a semi auto to live on for those to enjoy f...moreor years to come. This gun sans the semi side plate was shipped from Colt mfg. in Hartford Conn. to the Argentine military in the 1930s & originally chambered in 7.65x53 Argentine. Outwardly this gun resembles the much more common 1917 model Browning but once you look closely there are several significant differences to this rare gem; such as a 5" conical flash hider, a dark rich rust bluing instead of a painted or parkerized finish as seen on the more common offerings, a heavily knurled cocking handle, the sights are different as well utilizing a simple notch for aiming on a ladder type micro adj. base graduated from 100 to 2600 meters. To the right of the pistol grip is a paddle type block safety. This gun possesses an unusual telescopic sight mount that is numbered to the gun & reads "ejercito argentino infanteria y caballeria no 793". Also on the scope mount is a logo which contains the following "nedinsco systeem Carl Zeiss jana 1740 M.G.A. 8a". This gun is mounted on a beautiful steel & brass original Colt tripod bearing a data plate w/ the following in raised lettering "COLT AUTOMATIC MACHINE GUN TRIPOD" & "MFD BY COLT'S Pt.F.A. Mfg. Co. HARTFORD.CONN.U.S.A.". Tripod allows 360 degrees of rotation & has what appears to be an original leather tool bag mounted on rear leg. Cradle allows for elevational adjustment & the mounting of an ammo can on the left side. The Colt 1928 water cooled belt feed is uncommon to encounter as a semi auto build primarily because of the numerous differences between it & the more common side plate guns. Quite often the right side plate will be cut from thicker material than the traditional right side plate in order to prohibit the installation of factory full auto parts into the build, but in this case its not quite that simple. The Black Bear right side plate utilized in the build incorporates several raised areas where standard full auto parts could no longer be accepted. The corresponding semi auto only parts for this build are all slotted & have corresponding relief cuts. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Technical manual TM9-1005-212-10. Volume 6 No. 6 March 2003 issue of Small Arms Review, which includes a feature on this gun that is signed by the author. 9.5 by 7.5 framed studio portrait, and 4 t-shirts bearing the same photo. CONDITION: at the time of this cataloging the gun had just been shipped in directly from a professional refinisher where it has been entirely rust blued. The original Colt markings on the left side plate, the scope mount & the sights are clear, crisp & easy to read. The front & rear of the water jacket are brass along w/ the corresponding area of the trunnion which provide a classy look reminiscent of this era of mfg. The tripod is mfg. from steel w/ the entire yoke assembly consisting of a brass casting w/ a lg. brass knob on the rear portion of the cradle originally intended to adjust elevation, a look that only exemplifies the elegance of the 1928. Bore is shiny w/ strong rifling & the entire mechanism appears to function properly when cycled by hand. PROVENANCE: The Mark Genovese Collection. (19-3290 & 02-12601/JZ). MODERN. $5,000-7,000.

COLT MFG BELT LOADING MACHINE.

Lot # 1078 (Sale Order: 79 of 693)

An absolutely outstanding example of a steel & brass Colt belt loading machine in an original hard wood box. Brass hopper style feeder contains rounds in preparation for ...morelinking rather than the more common vertical shaft which rounds were loaded & progressed from top to bottom utilizing the rim on the casing. Though the mechanism appears to be similar to the more common Browning loaders there are some important differences. The belt pitch for the Colt guns is 16 pockets per foot, while the Browning belts are 17 pockets per foot. Because of this there are specific parts that are different such as sprocket feed wheels. Belt loader S# appears to be # 5. Brass data plate reads "MANUFACTURED BY COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. PATENTED JAN. 13, 1920". CONDITION: this machine is as attractive visually in its polished brass luster sitting static on a display shelf as it is accomplishing it's single task of filling belts. The function is a poetry of motion as it moves fluidly & accurately like the action of a fine watch. The steel surfaces are painted OD green while others have a deep rich bluing. All exposed brass maintains a bright luster that can easily be brought back to it's glory days w/ very little polishing & effort. PROVENANCE: The Mark Genovese Collection. (02-12600/JZ). NON-GUN. $900-1,400.

COLT 1928 ZEISS SCOPE.

Lot # 1079 (Sale Order: 80 of 693)

NEDINSCO JENA (Carl Zeiss) M.G.A.8a 5 X 25 Scope, w/ museum quality reproduction transit box numbered to scope. Left side on main body marked "Ejercito Argentino Infanter...moreia y Caballerie No910". Includes what appears to be a reproduction 1922 owners manual along w/ a second manual translated to English. Includes chamois roll & soft brush for maintenance. Both bubble levels sealed & clear. Rubber eye cup marked "A.J.M.P. 1961". All numerical data points, found in several places are clear & legible. Scope body painted a familiar shade of Argentine green. These optics are very clear & tested in house past 300 yards where they still retain clarity & focus. Lines in the retical are still strong and present though under close examination illustrate the effects of time & vibration w/ a normal widening, though it seems to have little to no effect on normal use. MAXIM 1910 SEMI AUTOMATIC RIFLE BY MIDWEST METAL

Lot # 1084 (Sale Order: 85 of 693)

CREATIONS. Cal. 7.62X54R. S# BN592. Bbl. 28 1/2". WWII Russian Model 1910 MG on the iconic Sokolov mount. Finished as a Title I semi automatic on a Midwest Metal Creation...mores side plate. Adopted in 1910 for the Imperial Russian Amy during WWI & produced regularly in some capacity until 1945. While the 1910 was directly derived from Sir Hiram Maxim’s original creation there were a few features unique to this particular version; the Sokolov mount may be the most recognizable. The snow cap on top of the fluted water jacket was another starting in the late 1920’s. The 1/4” thick armor plate just shy of 20” in width provided a little cover for the operator from incoming fire w/ out hindering the function of the gun in any major capacity. It could also be removed w/ out the use of tools if necessary. This particular example appears to have been entirely assembled from an original Russian kit w/ all major parts that are visible without disassembly bearing matching numbers. The gun currently sports a brass fusee cover bearing the Czech crest w/ date “1914” but also includes the original steel fusee cover w/ a serial number matching the rest of the gun. While the receiver is blued the bbl. jacket & Sokolov mount are one of the numerous period variations of green paint. The wooden spade grips are fluted in a vertical manner having both oil/grease brushes fully intact w/ undamaged threads & locking tabs also intact & completely functional. Front sight on the water jacket is a standard drift adj. blade in what appears to be factory location. Gaduating ladder rear sight, adj. in increments from directly in front of the muzzle to 2700 meters. The sights are correctly offset to the left & can be utilized directly through the armor plating by use of a small window specifically for that purpose. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: original steel fusee cover. Original wooden storage/transport crate for Sokolov mount. CONDITION: all mount adjustments for windage & elevation both major & micro operate & function smoothly. Firing mechanism appears to function properly when cycled by hand. This appears to be an entirely original 1910 Maxim MG. Top cover markings include the Ishevsk Arsenal hexagon w/ the arrow, pointed toward the muzzle & “1944” above serial number. Bluing on the receiver is very dark & complete w/ no missing finish aside from areas of high friction & the feeding system. Brass fusee cover has some light staining; mostly predominant to the front & light spattering on top. Paint coverage on armor & mount is also complete aside from a few areas on the body of the mount where the brass can be seen gently coming through & on the high friction areas of adjustment. Paint on wheels enjoy full coverage aside from areas that make full contact with the ground while rolling. Markings on Midwest side plate even utilized the original Russian serial number. Bright bore w/ strong rifling. PROVENANCE: Mark Genovese collection. (19-3306/JZ). MODERN. $4,500-6,500.

M18 RECOILLESS RIFLE CHAMBERED IN 50 BMG &

Lot # 1087 (Sale Order: 88 of 693)

BORE SIGHT TOOL. 1) S# RR57015. Overall length: approx. 61". The M18 recoilless rifle may be best known from vintage WWII Korean War footage. Having the ability to be ...morefired mounted or even prone w/ an ammunition capability bordering that of artillery, it was an extremely versatile weapon of war. Several of these were reimported back into the United States from Italy & other areas surrounding lg. theatres of operation as unserviceable according to BATF specifications. This particular example came into the ownership of prolific U.S. militaria collector Hayes Otoupalic & was remanufactured at his request by Black Mountain Manufacturing & chambered in 50 BMG. Because it is no longer capable of firing the original ammunition & the current chambering is permanent, it no longer falls under the provisions of a destructive device but simply that as a single shot 50 BMG rifle. Mounted in a 1917 cradle on top of an anti aircraft extension of the 1917 A1 tripod. It is complete w/ the factory M86 sight along w/ a spare & it is as ready for range time as it is for display. It is loaded using the original interrupted lug rotating breechblock giving the shooter an authentic experience at time on this historically significant yet uncommon example of history. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: this extremely complete assembly includes an original bipod assembly which doubles as the shoulder support when firing in that manner. 3 Inert M306A1 TP rds. in cardboard sleeves. M86F sight mounted w/ an additional M86C complete w/ canvas M76 case. Cleaning brush & accessories in canvas case. Vol. 4, No. 12, September 2001 issue of "Small Arms Review" magazine w/ feature article on this firearm signed by the author. CONDITION: good black painted finish. The original rifling inside of the 57mm bbl. is still extremely strong & pronounced though it has no effect on the performance at this point. Original folding front sight intact & operational. Front monopod functions properly & screw drives are smooth. Still retains cheek pad on the main tube. Traverse & elevation mechanism on cradle functions smooth & clicks are positive while making adjustments. Good shiny bore. Mechanism appears to function properly when tested w/ a snap cap. 2) 50 Cal. bore sighter of Soviet mfg. Overall length approx. 9.5" Arbor length 5.5". Comes w/ metal storage case measuring 10" x3.5" x2.5". CONDITION: glass appears clear, free of obvious defects. PROVENANCE: Mark Genovese Collection. (19-3302, 02-12711-1, 02-12712-1, 02-12702/JZ). MIDWEST METAL CREATIONS BREDA M37S SEMI AUTO

Lot # 1096 (Sale Order: 97 of 693)

RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 591. Bbl. 25". The Italian 8mm Model 37 Breda is arguably regarded as the most successful Italian machine gun that saw action in WWII. It is a ...moregas operated system & is fed by 20 rd. metallic feed strips. This is 1 firearm that earns its title of HMG coming in at almost 45 lbs not including tripod. This modern BATF approved semi auto doesnt appear to lose any performance in this U.S. specific configuration since the original rate of fire was only 450 rpm. The Breda 37 is extremely unique in that after it fired it reinserted the empty casing back into the original feed strip. The additional energy necessary for this operation kept the cyclic rate extremely low but made for a clean deck unobstructed of empty casings. Set up on Breda M36 tripod. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 4 matching extra bbls. M37 gunner's kit in original leather bag. 5 Feed strips. Laminated operators manual. AA tripod adapter. 4 Green painted custom fit wooden storage cases. Receiver portion of firearm is a dark parkerized finish. Bbls. have more of a gloss finish but retain the same dark color. The original crest along w/ the year "1938" are highlighted in white on the receiver top cover. Front sight is an enormous blade. Elevated notch rear sight adj. to 3000 meters; also micro adj. for windage. Sight radius 33". Tripod painted green w/ beautifully accented brass scale & elevation adjustment system. CONDITION: finish shows complete coverage w/ almost no exposed metal finish outside of those directly contacted in feed cycle. Bright bore w/ good rifling. All moving parts are fluid & smooth. Action appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. PROVENANCE: The Mark Genovese collection. (02-12571, 02-12577, 02-12578 & 19-3287/JZ). MODERN. $7,500-9,500.

MIDWEST METAL CREATIONS MADSEN M1946S SEMI AUTO

Lot # 1099 (Sale Order: 100 of 693)

RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 22. Bbl. 18 1/2”. This beautiful example of the Chilean M1946 HMG complete w/ Chilean crest (Ejericto De Chile) appears to have been torch cut ...more& brought back to life in a manner approved by BATFE as a fully functioning semi auto variant by Midwest Metal Creations. Markings on the left side of the receiver are lightly obscured in a vertical line by the re-mfg. process but the crest is untouched & the majority of the original engraving data is clear & readable. S# 22 is marked throughout firearm, including left side of the receiver & rear of receiver where the stock is attached. Receiver finish is parkerized while the bbl. mechanism sports the normal black glossy finish known to many of the Madsen firearm family. The remote firing tripod sports gray paint aside from areas that necessitate light lubrication & are constantly moving. Tripod bears S# 10976. Dark stained hardwood buttstock. These bbls. are unique in that under the shroud they include an area a little over 10” in length where there are a series of cooling fins to increase the surface area. Front sight is a heavy protected blade that doubles as a fulcrum for the muzzle booster retaining lever. Rear notch sight is graduated from 200 to 1900 meters in distance. MAGS: 1-30 rd. mag. CONDITION: all aspects of firing mechanism move fluidly & function correctly when cycled by hand. Tripod traverse & elevation mechanism move easily & appear to be in good working condition. Gray paint on tripod has areas that are light & missing. Some areas carry what appears to be light patina though nothing seems to have gotten out of hand. Black paint on bbl. & booster cover almost all metal surfaces aside from some chips & scratches & in some areas of high friction such as points of attachment. Receiver finish is complete w/ a few light scratches & due to the metal variants of the welding process the original repairs show through as darker than the remainder of the surface area. Stock has period normal light dings & appears to have undergone a sm. chip repair where the stock sits proud of receiver. Bore appears shiny w/ heavily pronounced rifling. PROVENANCE: The Mark Genovese collection (02-12634 & 19-3304/JZ). MODERN. $5,000-8,000.
