Cal. 58. NSN. 12" 1855 dated barrel with “V P / eaglehead” proof, lock has matching 1855 date, clear inspector cartouche. Detachable stock has "US" surcharge on buttplate...more. Often seen in early war photographs of U.S. & Confederate soldiers. CONDITION: good overall, complete, assembly number on pistol is "15" and “13” on stock. Barrel & lock polished, “US SPRINGFIELD” mark has been freshened. Brass cleaned to bright, stock yoke discolored but could be polished to match. Mechanics good, clear smooth bore. "14". Iron patina with pitting at breech. Brass medium mustard patina. Stocks are sound & solid w/ hairline crack on both sides of wrist of pistol, scattered cosmetic dings & dents. FINE CONFEDERATE CONTRACT M1864 LEMAT SECOND MODEL

GRAPESHOT REVOLVER WITH LONDON ADDRESS. Cal. 42/18 Ga. S# 8712. Octagon bbl. is 6 5/8" above a 5" round bbl. Upper bbl. is used with the 9 shot cylinder to fire 42 cal. a...moremmo. Top flat of bbl. is marked "LEMAT & GIRARD'S PATENT LONDON". The right flat of the bbl. is marked "8712”. All numbered parts of this revolver match completely. Lower bbl. is used for firing a single charge of buckshot. The underside of the bbl. is marked with 2 Birmingham proofs & "18". 9 Shot revolving cylinder, with associated loading lever, on left side of bbl. The hammer is fitted with a pivoting striker to accommodate the 9 cylinder nipples along with a single nipple at the top of the frame to fire the buckshot bbl. 2 Piece, fine checkered walnut grips with lanyard loop at the buttcap. This revolver was produced as part of a 1,000 piece contract for the Confederate government in 1864. Serial numbers run between 8,000 & 9,000 for the contract. Dr. Jean Alexandre Francois Lemat from New Orleans, LA, patented this type of revolver in 1856. He was originally business partners with P.G.T. Beauregard, who was to become one of the most famous Confederate generals of the war. CONDITION: a well used, but honest example, of this rare revolver. All mechanics appear to function quite well. The loading lever is original, undamaged & completely operable. The finish of the gun is generally oxidized with minor areas of pitting. Finish does survive in protected areas. All markings are easily legible. Screws show minimal wear & scratches. Nipples are complete & unbroken. Grips show wear but retain well defined checkering throughout. The bore of the revolver bbl. is quite nice with strong rifling remaining. The shotgun bore is dark but remains very smooth. (01-22075/BF). $10,000-13,000.

The butt cap is fitted with custo...morem silver lanyard ring marked “GUION LINE” & “BRANDY”. The Liverpool and Great Western Steamship Company, known as the Guion Line, was a British ship line Liverpool-New York route from 1866 to 1894. By 1870, the Guion line ranked third in the delivery of immigrants to New York with 27,054 passengers. It is unknown how this pistol became associated with the Guion Line. CONDITION: good overall, rear sight reconfigured to “V” notch from original 2-leaf. Swivel ramrod assembly restored. Tape primer still works but door does not latch. Lock plate dated 1884 with "eagle". Two piece trigger guard. Grooved trigger. Early type ramrod. Low comb walnut stock. Stock has been given a coat of reddish brown finish, leaving only the circle "P" proof faintly visible. Buttplate is unmarked. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 18" triangular blade bayonet marked"US" and "s". Bayonet in good condition with scattered peppery oxidation. CONDITION: Stock finish has light wear and handling marks w/ small scattering spots of black. Metal finish has been enhanced with cold blue over areas of peppery oxidation. Bore has strong lands with fine oxydation throughout. (01-21634/RW). ANTIQUE. $150-300.

Lockplate marked with "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" and "eagle".Case colored...more low arch breech block dated "1884". Correct ramrod is present. Two piece trigger guard. Original finish Walnut long comb stock marked on left side with crisp boxed "SWP" and circle script "P". US marked buttplate. CONDITION: Stock has a good appearance with the normal wear expected from a well used military rifle. Forend has an area of missing finish on the right side between the bands. Metal has traces of blue turning patina with peppery oxidation and scattered fine pitting. Breech block shows faint case colors. Very good shiny bore with sharp lands. No date found on bbl. 1862 Ty...morepe percussion lock with eagle and U.S. Springfield markings is dated “1862” on tail. Walnut stock extends to within 4" of muzzle with steel cap and is iron mounted. Left side of butt is carved with initials “LJ” and “C”. CONDITION: poor. Metal parts with dark brown to black patina over considerable scattered pitting. Sight leaf is rusted into place. Rear portion of bbl. with heavy pitting. Breech plug squashed. Stock is good with old cleaned surface and plastic wood infill around bbl. tang. There is a crack from front of lock upward toward bbl. for about 4". Dark rusted bore has rifling barely evident. Lock is weak. Sling loops are missing. (01-21512/MGM). ANTIQUE. $600-800.

Blade is etched over half its length wi...moreth various patriotic, military & foliate motifs including a spread winged American eagle and large "US". Gilded brass hilt with down turned quillon. Pierced guard with foliate motifs & a large "US". The plain knuckle bow joins a pommel embellished with acanthus leaves & a Federal shield. Wire wrapped sharkskin grip. Gilded brass mounted blued iron scabbard. Scabbard mounts are embellished with a shield on the top mount and raised winged American eagle on the drag as well as foliate motifs throughout. CONDITION: blade has a light gray finish. Etching remains quite strong. Hilt is a bit loose & retains much of its original gilded finish. Grip shows wear & although the wire is complete, some strands are displaced. Scabbard mounts retain areas of original gilded finish. The bluing on the scabbard shows overall fading to a dark blue gray. (02-17660/BF). $1,200-1,500.

US M1860 STAFF & FIELD OFFICER'S SWORD.

Overall length: 36 1/2". Blade length: 30". This post Civil War M1860 has a plain blade with a gilded brass hilt. Hilt has an eagle & flag embellished kidney shaped guard...more with a knuckle bow showing stands of arms in the center. The pommel has an eagle on the front with shield at the rear. Wire wrapped leather grip. Scabbard has a faded blue/brown finish with gilded brass mounts. The top mount has a large "US" above the suspension ring. CONDITION: blade shows no damage or oxidation. Hilt & scabbard show the remains of original gilded finish. Grip & wire are complete though wire has migrated some. Scabbard shows no damage & is quite attractive. (02-17748/BF). $200-350.

SWORD. Overall length: 33 3/8". Blade length: 27 1/2". Blade features a single wide fuller with gold highlighted, etched decoration on a blue field over about half its le...morength. Etching includes foliate motifs and a spray of arms with Liberty cap. Gilded brass hilt with a 5 ball guard, downward disk quillon and a 5 ball knuckle bow. Eagle head pommel is in the Ketland style. Certifiably antique ivory grip with vertically reeded decoration. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray finish with scattered areas of light oxidation. Blue and gilt decoration is about 95% intact. Hilt retains 75% of its original gilded finish. Grip has a single age crack running the length of one side. Scabbard mounts retain most of their original gilded finish. Leather body is a bit flaked and has one flex point and partial break near the tip. (02-17649/BF). $800-1,200.

FEDERAL ERA FIGURE 8 CUTLASS.

Lot # 1022 (Sale Order: 23 of 684)      

Overall length: 33 1/2". Blade length: 28". This style of cutlass likely dates between 1800 & 1840 & is generally thought to be a commercial cutlass used on trading vesse...morels & the like. The plain blade has 3 narrow fullers extending about 12" from the hilt. The sword blade swells near the tip in a rakish fashion. Iron hilt with figure 8 guard & knuckle bow. There is a lanyard slot where the knuckle bow becomes the pommel. The iron grip is vertically reeded. No scabbard. CONDITION: cutlass is quite solid but has a heavily oxidized finish throughout. (02-17972/BF). $500-800.

LARGE 19TH CENTURY BOWIE KNIFE WITH EAGLE ENGRAVED

Lot # 1023 (Sale Order: 24 of 684)      

CROSSGUARD ON GERMAN SILVER. Overall length: 15 1/2". Blade length: 10 1/4". Plain bowie style blade with 3 1/4" false edge. The entire hilt is German silver with 2 piece...more horn grips. The crossguard is molded in a manner that is reminiscent of eagle's wings & the eagle is engraved on the crossguard with the feathered wings following the contour of the mold. Above the eagle are multiple stars. The side straps & domed rectangular pommel are basically undecorated except for horizontal incised lines at the pommel. Horn grips are secured by 8 German silver pins on 1 side & the other side is secured by 6 pins & a 1 1/4" German silver lozenge. Sheath is dark burgundy finished leather with German silver throat & tip. CONDITION: blade exhibits minimal sharpening with scattered spots of oxidation. Hilt is tight & undamaged. Grips show light to moderate wear. Scabbard has a separation on 1 side of the leather near the tip. The throat is missing a frog stud & the extreme end of the tip has shallow dents. (02-17971/BF). $1,800-2,500.

Overall length: 14 3/4". Blade length: 10". Plain unmarked blade with 4" false edge. The silver guard & pommel have well defined foliate decoration. The grips appear to b...moree made of shaped horn with folky engraving on each side. 1 Side reads "P LEMONT 1898 OREGAN" with stars on either side of the name. The other side has a "P" with a Longhorn cow along with other illegible marks. The borders of the grips are engraved with fanciful scrollwork & wrigglework. No sheath. CONDITION: blade has a clean mottled gray patina with ample evidence of cleaned pitting. There are numerous minor nicks to the edge of the blade particularly near the tip. The hilt shows overall light to moderate wear. (02-17976/BF). $700-1,000.
