P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by DWM under contract for the Imper...moreial German military in 1913. The bbl. extension is marked "1913" over the chamber, with DWM arsenal proofs on the right, and the S# marked on the left. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Major metal components exhibit a rust blue finish, with some small parts exhibiting either a straw or nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard sight configuration, with dovetailed blade front sight and V-notch rear sight. This example is unaltered, and was not returned to the arsenal to be retrofitted with a hold-open latch. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the grips. MAGS: 1 wood bottom 8-rd. CONDITION: very good to fine, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their original rust blue finish, exhibiting some areas of light to mild wear and thinning, as well as scattered spots of light surface oxidation overall. Front grip strap exhibits mild surface oxidation, with the rear grip strap exhibiting moderate degrees of dark surface oxidation. Right side of the bbl. extension, bbl., and left side of the breechblock are marked with an Imperial German reichsadler proof. Metal components exhibit period arsenal applied rust blue finish overall, with some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, safety lever, and ejector exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips, which are marked with black "9"s on either panel. While the red "9" marking was mandated during the period for only the C96 pistols to help eliminate the possibility of loading the wrong ammunition, it seems that there was some confusion at the armorer level, with some pistols, such as this example also exhibiting a distinctive "9" on the grip panels. Fine tune blade front sight, with V-notch tangent rear sight, graduated 1-8. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard blade front sight, with Navy rear sight graduated from 100-200. RARE FINNISH M/23 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL

WITH SCARCE FINNISH HOLSTER. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 7175n. Bbl. 4 11/16". Unsatisfied with their domestically designed Ahlberg pistol, the Finnish Ministry of Defense went to...more DWM, requesting the P.08 Luger pistol. Due to the Treaty of Versailles, DWM was unable to produce any small arms in the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge, and was only able to supply Finland with the Model 1920 Commercial Luger chambered in 7.65x21mm Parabellum. The Finnish Ministry of Defense ultimately accepted these Lugers, designating them as the "M/23", with a small number later being re-barreled to the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge. This example, is marked with a German Crown/N commercial nitro proof (also present on the left side of the breechblock), followed by a boxed Finnish "SA" military proof on the left side of the bbl. extension. Toggle is marked with the "DWM" intertwined monogram. Top of the Finnish replacement bbl. is marked with the Tikka arsenal insignia. Metal components exhibit what appears to be a period (likely Finnish arsenal) reapplied blue finish overall. Takedown lever, trigger, and safety lever have been reheated at one time. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Lahti L-35 style blade front sight, with the rear sight having been modified into a square notch configuration. Takedown lever exhibits grind marks on its exterior face. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, and trigger. MAGS: 1 unmarked 8-rd. with wood bottom. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: scarce Finnish brown leather holster, with brass fittings. Closure flap is stamped with a boxed Finnish "SA" proof. Holster contains a Finnish boxed "SA" marked loading tool and brass cleaning rod. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their likely Finnish arsenal reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray and brown patinas, with areas of pitting present beneath the blue, primarily under the grip panels. Strawed parts retain fair to good amounts of their reheated finish, exhibiting some areas of pitting beneath the straw. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting what appears to be some very light pitting and/or hardened grease, while retaining strong rifling throughout. RUSSIAN CAPTURE, EAST GERMAN POLICE ISSUE MAUSER

"BYF" CODE "42" DATE P.08 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 2677f. Bbl. 4". P.08 Luger originally mfg. by Mauser in 1942 and subsequently captured by the Russi...moreans and reissued for East German police use. The bbl. extension is marked with the 2-digit year of mfg. "42" over the chamber, with Mauser Eagle/135 acceptance proofs marked on the right. Toggle is marked with Mauser's "byf" mfg. code. Left side of the frame exhibits 2 peened areas that retain traces of East German police starburst proofs beneath. Underside of the bbl. exhibits a mostly illegible import mark, with a Russian capture "X" marked beneath the S# on the frame. Metal components exhibit a Russian reapplied blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Dovetailed blade front sight, with fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, rear toggle pin, as well as the grips, with most numbers likely having been force matched at a Russian or East German arsenal. Hold-open latch spring is absent. MAGS: 1 (likely Russian / East German arsenal renumbered) blued 8-rd. with aluminum bottom. CONDITION: very good, as refinished, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their reapplied Russian blue finish, exhibiting a few scattered spots of mild pitting and some scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation overall. Grip straps exhibit consistent surface oxidation. Bright bore, exhibiting mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show scattered marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Left grip exhibits some minor chipping along the top of the panel, with a chip present on the interior of the bottom left corner of the panel. (25-514). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
