WWII GERMAN M1942 HELMET LIKELY FOR A VOLKSSTRUM

Lot # 1404 (Sale Order: 346 of 491)

UNIT. A rare and desirable variation of the German M1942 helmet with a dark field green-painted finish and an original white shield painted on the front with a central pa...morerty symbol in black sandwiched between diagonal fields of black above and red below. Although we could not determine the exact attribution of this insignia, we feel it is likely for a Volksstrum unit. The interior rear is stamped "HK960" and "3349". There is a small section of brown leather chinstrap remaining, and the 8-tongue liner is light brown leather. There is an inked marking on the liner that reads "Matr: Kamarck. A." CONDITION: helmet finish is approx. 65%. The painted shield is weathered and cracked but remains 95% intact. Liner is worn but solid. A rare helmet for the advanced collector. (02-22799-2/BF). $1,200-1,800.

WWII GERMAN M1940 HELMET WITH PAINTED SHIELD

Lot # 1405 (Sale Order: 347 of 491)

LIKELY FOR A FOREIGN FIGHTER. A fine example of a German M1940 helmet with dark green and dark brown camouflage paint of the period. The right side of the helmet is paint...moreed with a red and white quartered shield that is also, obviously, of the period. The left side of the helmet shows a white painted static party symbol. The interior rear of the helmet is stamped "9240" and the interior left is stamped "SE64". There are partially visible painted faded red letters on the rear brim that appear to read "O.Gefr. A_g___". There is no liner remaining and only a partial chinstrap. The band and felt covering remain intact. We were unable to identify the insignia on this helmet. We feel both the insignia and the camouflage paint are absolutely correct and of the period. A rare helmet perfect for the advanced collector. CONDITION: painted finish is about 90%. Only the ends of the chinstrap remain. Interior shows some oxidation, particularly at the crown. (02-23645/BF) $1,000-3,000.

IMPERIAL GERMAN BAVARIAN RESERVE OFFICER HELMET.

Lot # 1408 (Sale Order: 350 of 491)

An attractive example of an Imperial German Reserve Officer's helmet from the Kingdom of Bavaria. This high grade officer helmet has gilded trim throughout, except for th...moree silvered Bavarian Reserve Cross at the center of the frontplate. The trim includes a beautifully fluted spike with quatrefoil base, front plate, scaled chinstrap, side bosses, and visor trim. Oddly, there is an officer grade Prussian kokard on the right side and an NCO grade Bavarian kokard on the left side. The interior rear visor is red and the interior front visor is green. Wide leather scalloped sweatband stamped "K Z 10-32" with an illegible maker's label. The grosgrain liner has an interesting mustard color, possibly due to sweat stains. CONDITION: this helmet shows light overall wear with a solid body and lightly worn interior. One star from the quatrefoil base is detached, but present. A few chin scales are a bit loose but none are missing. There is expected light crazing to the body of the helmet. (02-24034/BF). $1,200-1,500.
