EARLY POST-LIBERATION "A" PREFIX FN MODEL 1922

Lot # 1223 (Sale Order: 224 of 627)

SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 7.65mm. S# A2534. Bbl. 4 3/8". Model 1922 semi-automatic pistol mfg. by FN likely just after the liberation of Belgium. These "A" prefix pisto...morels were quickly assembled from remaining occupation and/or hidden pre-occupation parts by returning FN employees shortly after the German forces left the FN factory in September of 1944. The exact recipients of these "A" prefix pistols are unknown, as no records were kept during this period. This example is marked "FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE HERSTAL BELGIQUE/ BROWNING'S PATENT DEPOSE" on the left side of the slide. Frame and slide exhibit Belgian commercial proofs. Bbl. exhibits Belgian commercial proofs on the right, with a faint German eagle proof present on the left. Right side of the frame is marked with the S# "A2534". Metal components exhibit an older reapplied blue finish overall, save for on the bbl., which remains polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Half-moon blade front sight, with V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, slide (interior), and bbl. (left side of chamber). MAGS: 1 8-rd. CONDITION: very good, as refinished, with metal components retaining the majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some wear and thinning that shows through to gray patina, some scattered superficial handling marks, as well as areas of pitting that are present beneath the bluing. Mirror bore, exhibiting a few spots of light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing, as well as some scattered superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. An intriguing example of an early post-liberation FN Model 1922. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-335/MLW). CURIO. $300-400.
