BODIED SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN W/ TWO SETS OF BARRELS. Cal. 12 Ga. 2 1/2". S# 15364 (mfg. 1895). This fine gun has two sets of 30" chopper lump bbls. One with maker's n...moreame and address on narrow game rib has bbl. flats stamped w/ original London black powder proofs, early London nitro reproofs, and later Birmingham reproofs all for 2 1/2" chambers with the Birmingham proofs at 850 BAR & stamped "Lined Barrel" (most likely Teague liners). Serial numbers are on bottoms of bbls. & bbl. maker's initials "WH" (Bill Hill) are on bottom of left bbl. Tube numbers "16141" & "16142" are on loop. The second set of newly made bbls. have rib engraved "2" and with scroll; matching the number "2" on the first set of bbls, top lever and forend iron. These newer bbls. are stamped with 1991 London nitro proofs for 2 1/2" chambers. Serial number is on bottom of right bbl. Coin finished rnd. bodied sidelock action features automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, engraved arrow tumbler end cocking indicators & dbl. triggers. Action is engraved w/ near full coverage Purdey "house" style rose & scroll featuring very small well cut scroll & nicely detailed rose bouquets. "J. Purdey & Sons" is at the bottom of each lockplate & bottom of action is engraved "PURDEY'S" "PATENT". Blued trigger guard is engraved w/ usual larger open scroll; serial number is on tang. Very attractive, dense, well marbled & lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 3/4" over checkered wood butt. Action area is correctly rounded. Point pattern checkering w/ mullered borders is at grip. A vacant gold oval is on toeline. Splinter Wem ejector forend has unusual flat Anson release button. Iron is engraved "Patent" "2" & is stamped w/ actioner's initials "S.P" (Sol Prentice). MEASUREMENTS: ORIGINAL LINED BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .714", L .714". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: additional set of newly made bbls. CONDITION: fine as partially refurbished. Original bbl. set retains over 90% reblue, silvering around muzzles, breech ends & along sharp edges. Replacement bbl. set retains essentially all of it's fine quality London black. Action is cleaned to coin finish, engraving remains clear. Reblued top lever & trigger guard show silvering to about 80% blue. Buttstock retains most of an old oil refinish w/ some scattered marks, checkering w/ considerable wear has not been recut. Forend wood is also refinished & appears that checkering was recut & is quite widely spaced while grip checkering is closely spaced. Bores are bright & shiny. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Drop is good although tip of iron has been shortened. Ejectors are strong and in time. An attractive, good handling gun. A new set of best quality London made bbls. presently cost over $15,000. EXCEPTIONALLY FINE MATCHED PAIR OF GOLD NAME

WESTLEY RICHARDS SIDELOCK EJECTOR SELF OPENING DOUBLE TRIGGER GAMEGUNS WITH HAND DETACHABLE LOCKS. Cal. 12 Ga. 2 3/4". S# 19349 & 19350 (1970 as listed in "British Gunmak...moreers Vol. 2" by Nigel Brown). This lovely pair of guns was made for Westley Richards by A. Brown & Sons who had their workshop next door to Westley Richards in Birmingham & made many high grade sidelock guns for Wesley Richards & others throughout the 60s & 70s. The guns have 28" chopperlump bbls. engraved "Westley Richards & Co., Birmingham. England" on very narrow, slightly raised game ribs. Guns are a true pair as denoted by the numbers "1" & "2" gold inlaid at rear portions of ribs, top levers & forend tips. There are 1" triangles of well cut scroll on breech ends of bbls. Bbl. flats are stamped with 1969 Birmingham nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers. Bottoms of bbls. are stamped with serial numbers. H&H type self opening assist springs are fitted. Case hardened sidelock actions are of Holland & Holland pattern & feature automatic safeties, bushed strikers, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, hand detachable locks & double triggers (fronts articulated). Water tables & breech faces are damascened & Brown brothers "ABAS" stamps can be seen in rear lump wells. Locks are by Chilton, & engine turned interiors are also stamped "ABAS". Actions are very nicely filed. Engraving consists of near full coverage varying size well cut shaded scroll within scroll borders which surrounds classic rose bouqets. "WESTLEY RICHARDS" in gold is on scrolled ribbon on each lockplate. Blued top lever & beaded trigger guard are engraved with matching scroll. Serial numbers are on short tangs. Very well matched straight grip buttstocks of well streaked & lightly figured European walnut measure 14 13/16" over checkered wood butts. Stocks also feature nicely shaped drop points, point pattern checkering with mullered borders on semi diamond hands & rectangular gold crestplates with arched sides on toelines. Matching long splinter Southgate ejector forends have Anson releases. MEASUREMENTS (Gun #1): BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .730", L .730". Restriction: R .018" (MOD), L .033" (FULL). Min. Bbls. 30" Demi-bloc, fitted with narrow swamped ga...moreme rib engraved "Westley Richards 23 Conduit St. London Gun Makers by Appointment to HM King" "OVUNDO". Ejector and locking bosses engraved with interlocking ribbon design and some large shaded scroll. Side rib where covered by forend is engraved "Ovundo System Regd No 35-4045 / 1913". Barrel flats stamped with Birmingham Nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers and "CHOKE". Case hardened lowered profile O/U action with automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold) utilizes Westley Richards classic sliding bolt principle to engage locking surfaces on barrels without Purdey style bolt. Barrels still pivot below bottom barrel in traditional fashion. Action fitted with hand detachable locks (patent use # 3861). Locks are engine turned, marked for right and left, but are not stamped with use number. Locks are housed under hinged floorplate. Action and decorative sideplates are engraved with near full coverage, very bold, well cut, scrolling acanthus that is nicely shaded. "Westley Richards" is in rectangular device on each side. Top of action engraved "Westley Richards" "Ejector" in front of top lever pivot. Matching engraving is on blued top lever, trigger guard and floorplate which is also engraved "Westley Richards" "Patent" "Ovundo". S# is on trigger guard tang. Straight grip buttstock of superb, nicely veined and dramatically flame figured, European walnut & measures 15" over black "Decelerator" pad. Stock features drop points, closely spaced point pattern checkering with mullered borders wrapping under grip and large gold oval on toeline engraved w/ monogram "PEM". Matching splinter ejector forend w/ horn tip has Deeley release. MEASUREMENTS: BARRELS: bore diameter: over .737", under .738". Restriction: over .032" (Full), under .030" (Full). Min. Wall Thickness: over .030", under .031", STOCKS: LOP: 15". DAC: 1 3/16"-. DAH: 1 3/4"+. 1/4" Cast off. WEIGHT: 7 lbs., 12 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1st Edition (1906) of "Modern Sporting Gunnery" by Henry Sharp, which has a picture of Westley Richards hand detachable lock on cover and pictures many Westley Richards shotguns and rifles. CONDITION: very fine. Barrels retaining nearly all of what appears to be a best reblack. Action and lockplates retaining 50% - 60% original case hardening color, silvering on bottom beads and tails of sideplates. Secondary blued parts retain nearly all a very sympathetic reblue. Buttstock retains with nearly all hand rubbed newer oil finish mostly likely applied with installation of new pad. Forend does not appear to have been refinished. Checkering somewhat worn and dark. Bores are very fine without any noted problems or repairs. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Mechanically good. Given its choking and stock dimensions, it is likely that this fine gun found use in the Pigeon ring or Trap field. (21-2444/MGM). CURIO. $12,000-16,000.

The Grade B or No. 2 was Holland & Hollan...mored's 2nd grade, one step under the “Royal” & is nicely finished but simply does not have as much embellishment. This pair of guns have 30" dovetailed steel bbls. fitted w/ narrow swamped game ribs, the numbers “1” & “2” are gold inlaid respectively on breech ends, as well as on top levers & forend latches, denoting a true pair. Bbl. tops are stamped w/ “Holland & Holland” & “98. New Bond Street. London”. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ London nitro proofs 2 1/2" chambers. S#s are on the bottom of each bbls. Bottom of each left bbl. is engraved “B GRADE”. Case hardened Royal pattern sidelock actions are fitted w/ non automatic safeties (“Safe” inlaid in gold), gold band tumbler end cocking indicators & dbl. triggers. Actions are engraved in Grade B or No. 2 style w/ splashes of well cut scroll as counter point to line borders. Beads are nicely filed. Each lockplate is engraved w/ maker's name. Bottoms of actions are engraved “Patent” “Ejector”. Blued top levers & triggerguards are engraved to match. S#s are on triggerguard tangs. Well streaked & lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstocks that match very well, measure 13 3/4" over ribbed horn buttplates & feature drop points, point pattern checkering w/ mullered borders on diamond hands & vacant silver ovals on toelines. Matching splinter “AB” ejector forends have inlet steel tips & Deeley type releases. MEASUREMENTS: (S# 21564) BORE DIAMETER: .729 left, .729 right. BORE RESTRICTIONS: .007 IC left, .002 IC right. Case is lined in scarlet cloth & has gold embossed black leather Holland & Holland label in lid along w/ charge card for these particular guns & “AB” ejector maintenance card. Bottom compartment is separated by a folding dust leaf & has space for both guns & their bbls. Case contains 2 pair of Holland & Holland marked snap caps, 2 pull through cleaning kits in black Morocco wallets & another leather wallet containing spare strikers for both guns. Another covered compartment holds Mop, Jag & Turks head. An open compartment holds a leather carrying sling. CONDITION: very fine, mostly original, “as found”. Both sets of bbls. retaining nearly all of a professional reblack; engraving somewhat softened. Action & lockplates retain approx. 70% original case hardening color silvered on high edges, beads & fences. Thinning somewhat at bottoms & sides from normal hand wear. Lock plates retain over 80% of their color. Top levers & trigger guards reblued, engraving softened. Stocks retain nearly all of their original rubbed oil finish w/ a good scattering of light marks & some areas dulled. Checkering lightly worn. Bores are bright & shiny w/ a few minor striations in right bbl. of gun #2. Actions are tight. Bbls. are on face. AB ejectors are typically strong & in time. Case leather is still relatively light in color has numerous bumps & rubs & has some water stains. Straps & handle are good. Interior cloth shows some soiling & rubs but is generally fine. Leather label shows some mildew. Paper labels are good but somewhat foxed. Lower compartment partitions are solid. Cloth has some rubs through along w/ marks & stains, but is generally very good. Bbls. retaining nearly all of a best London reblack done at time of sleeving w/ some minor subsequent flecking. Tube joints are very hard to see & maker's info has been removed from tops of bbls. Action & locks retain a considerable amount of their original muted case hardening color, difficult to see through extensive engraving. Top lever & trigger guard w/ traces of blue are mostly gray patina. Buttstock shows old oil refinish, possible replacement buttplate, newer large oval & recut checkering. Sharp edges of stock are somewhat rounded. Forend wood appears to have been reshaped toward tip to adj. for a chip in bbl. channel, checkering nicely modified. Bores are bright & shiny. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors are strong & in time. Trigger seems to work well. Case leather is quite dark & shows a number of scrapes & rubs. Straps are good. The handle has partially detached. Interior cloth is good w/ some rubs through. Newer label is very fine. A solid, great handling gun that one could be proud to use for the next half century. FLINTLOCK GAMEGUN BY J. MORTIMER, RETAILED BY EDWARD WESTON OF LEWIS. Cal. .595" bore diameter. NSN. Bbls. 33" twist steel are engraved "EDWARD-WESTON-GUN-MAKER-LEWIS" on...more narrow game rib. Patent breeches have gold inlaid bands and platinum lined touchholes. Bottoms of bbls. and breeches are stamped with London black powder proofs. Case hardened breech iron is engraved with acanthus, flowers and feather bands. Locks with beveled plates having rebated tails are fitted with serpentine cocks, waterproof pans, bridled roller frizens and feathersprings with rollers having bulbous finials. Locks and cocks are engraved with some small scroll and birds. Rising snipe on locktails and grouse on cocks. "J. MORTIMER" is under each pan. Stock of somewhat figured European walnut measures 14 7/8" over steel buttplate with long top spur engraved with more small game scenes. Gun is iron mounted. Triggerplate has large pineapple type finial. Trigger guard is engraved with perched pheasant? on bow. Stock attaches to bbl. with captive side bolt that goes through oval silver escutcheons. Old hickory ramrod with brass tip mounts through two plain pipes and thimble with small pineapple finial. Square checkering is at grip and forend. A vacant oval silver crestplate is at top of grip. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .600", L .605". Wall Thickness: R .045", L .040". STOCK: DAH: 2". DAC: 1 1/16". LOP: 14 7/8". CAST: neutral. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 13 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: CONDITION: fine as found. Bbls. retaining over 80% original brown with excellent definition to twist pattern. There is some staining and associated rusted on left bbl. toward breech. Locks and hammers retain 60-70% original faded case hardening color. Traces of original blue remain on traigger guard and trigger plate. Stock retains most of what appears to be its original finish with a number of minor dents and marks. Checkering shows some wear. Bores are very fine, smooth and shiny with some minor frosting toward muzzles. Locks are crisp and spark very well. There is an old repaired crack in wood above featherspring on left lock and a 1/2" stress crack in front of right lock. Ramrod is about 1/2" short. (01-21617/MGM). ANTIQUE. $6,000-12,000.

The 26" dovetailed steel bbls. fitted with narrow game rib are engraved...more "Joseph Lang & Son, 108 New Bond Street, London." and "Abercrombie & Fitch Co., New York, U.S.A." on tops. Bbl. flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 7/8 oz. shot. Bottoms of bbls. are stamped with serial numbers, "JL & S" and bottom of left bbl. is engraved "FOR 2 1/2 SHELL". Coin finished sidelock action is stocked to the fences and features nonautomatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold). Gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, Lang's unique detachable lock system with spring latch under hinged flap at rear of lockplates, and single non selective trigger. Opening flap exposes mortice for key (2 in case) to release lock from action. Action and locks are engraved with near full coverage classic English rose and scroll which is very well executed. "Joseph Lang & Son" is on each lockplate. Blued top lever and trigger guard are engraved with matching rose and scroll. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Well marbled and lightly figured European walnut, straight grip buttstock measures 14 3/4" over thin Silver type pad. Stock features classic drop points, grip checkering and vacant oval. Matching splinter Southgate ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS.: Bore Diameter: R: .618", L: .618". Restrictions: R: .011" (IC), L: .015" (MOD). Minimum Wall Thickness: R: .025", L: .026". STOCK: DAH: 2 5/16". DAC: 1 1/2-". CAST: approx. 1/2" off. LOP: 14 3/4". WEIGHT: 5 lbs. 14 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is housed in relatively new tan leather case lined in green gaberdine cloth. Leather "Equicaca" label is stitched into lid. Case contains a black leather wallet holding 2 keys for gun lock. CONDITION: very good to fine as restored. Bbls. retaining over 95% good quality reblack. Engraving at rear of rib has been picked up. Action is cleaned to coin finish. Engraving still sharp and clear. Top lever and trigger guard retain nearly all of a reblue with some slight subsequent silvering. Stocks retain near all of an older oil refinish; checkering recut and is rather sharp. Pad is new. Bores are bright and shiny with some light frosting toward muzzle of right bbl. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Trigger only fires left bbl., first and does not set up for right. (Needs attention). There is a small patch repair to a crack behind right lockplate and repaired crack behind left. Case is very fine with some marks and rubs. (22-1177/MGM). CURIO. $7,000-10,000.

Bottoms of bbls .are stamped "SLEEVED". Jones underlever action is fitted with front spring locks having rebounding serpentine hammers. Action and locks are engraved with 80% coverage large scroll. Hammers are engraved with small scroll. Straight grip buttstock of well marbled and figured, dense European walnut, measures 14 1/4" over steel buttplate with long spur. Flat top point pattern checkering is at grip, and a silver oval on toe line is engraved with what appears to be a mountain. Matching splinter forend with inlet horn tip is fully checkered and attaches to bbls. with captive side bolt through oval steel escutcheons. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS.: Bore Diameter: R: .729", L: .727". Bottoms of bbls. are stamped "S.H." & w/ serial numbers. Water table is stamped w/ London view proofs, S# & "E.C. Hodges" (most likely the actual maker of this gun). Extensive machining of breech e...morend leaves heavy octagonal bottom section covered by wood of forend. Bbls. are fitted with slightly raised ventilated rib by "Simmons" with 2 white beads. Top left side of bbl. is engraved "James Woodward & Sons. 64 St James's Street. London England". Bottom is stamped with London nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chamber. Serial number is on bottom of lump. Casehardened top lever action is of low profile but uses a standard hinge pin. Action is engraved with 80% coverage Woodward house style rose and scroll. "J. Woodward & Sons" is in classic Woodward parchment scroll device on front of each lockplate. Trigger guard and top lever are blued, and engraved with matching scroll and roses; serial number is engraved on trigger guard tang. Replacement steel capped pistol grip buttstock of crotch figured American walnut measures 14 3/4" over brown leather covered pad over tapered 1" to 1 3/8" extension. Stock has 1/2" Monte Carlo, point pattern checkering at grip and a vacant silver oval on toe line. One piece, long beavertail ejector forend appears to be original and has shaped horn extension to Anson release button housing. MEASUREMENTS: BBL.: Bore Diameter: .734". This best quality pair of guns were undoubtedly made by James Woodward & Company as the g...moreuns utilize Southgate & Woodward's patent action combined with Scott's spindle and top lever. Locks are stamped "CHILTON" on the inside. Guns were made for and retailed by E. Pirlet of Paris, known to have been working circa 1890 at 26 St. Honore, Paris. The 29 7/8" chopperlump barrels are engraved with retailer's name and address along with "Brevete" on slightly raised concave game ribs. Barrel flats are stamped with French Nitro proofs for 2 1/2" chambers and 2010 London Nitro reproofs for 2 3/4". Bottoms of barrels are stamped with Belgian black powder proofs and the number "217". Case hardened square back sidelock actions have water tables stamped "Pirlet Brevete" and with French proofs. Action also features typical Woodward style T-shaped nonautomatic safety which covers "S" (inlaid in gold), hidden third fasteners, bushed strikers, sideclips, raised tumbler end pivots as normally found on Woodward guns of the 1890s, and double triggers (fronts articulated). Action is nicely filed and fences are arcaded also in classic Woodward style. Action and lockplates are engraved with near full coverage very well cut small scroll within scroll borders. "E. Pirlet" is on each lockplate. Trigger guards are also scroll engraved and serial numbers are on tangs. Well matched straight grip buttstocks of finely marbled and lightly figured European walnut, measure 14 5/8" over checkered wood butts. Drop points are well shaped and point pattern checkering is at grips. Matching splinter ejector forends have Anson releases. The numbers "1" and "2" are gold inlet on central uncheckered diamonds. Irons are stamped with "E. Pirlet" "Brevete". Projections on rear of extractor lifters cock ejector hammers. MEASUREMENTS: GUN "1": BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .729", L .729". Action and lockplates retain a considerable amount (perhaps as much as 30%) original case hardening color with balance a very pleasing silver gray. Stocks show old oil refinish with a fair number of subsequent marks. Checkering shows considerable wear. Grip checkering does not appear to have been recut. The same can be said for forend on gun number "2". Gun number "1" possibly old fairly well done freshening with subsequent wear. Bores are all bright and shiny without any noted dents or problems, except for a small sprinkling of light pits in breech end of right barrel of gun number "1". Actions are tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case leather is dark, has many stains and rubs, straps are missing, old handle is good with replaced bases.
